I'd lean towards establishing a Universal Basic Income (as Spain is attempting) to ensure the lock-down can be extended to protect public safety, whilst also providing people with enough money to cover essential goods so they don't have to work. I don't know if it is workable or sustainable, but "events" have essentially forced our hand to implement it regardless.

We are solidly in new territory when we have to shut down almost the entire economy to protect people from a Pandemic, so this would probably mean doing more in addition such as suspending rent and mortgage payments so people don't get thrown out on to the street as part of a bailout package.

This remains such a radical departure from the "neo-liberalism" we've had to the past forty years or so, that it's unlikely to win the support of Democrats or Republicans initially, but the longer the crisis goes on the more likely it is people will adopt more radical approaches (if only to keep social order).

So doctors wearing a mask are emasculated? Fire fighters too? How about Lucha wrestlers? Also emasculated? Bane is an emasculated monster? Or how about Darth Vader, Michael Myers, bikers, soldiers, swat team members, etc.etc. who are rocking their masks.

And even you cannot complain about these masks, they are totally not emasculating, quite the opposite.

    or this one

    or this one

    Emasculating my behind.

Personally I would also be OK with

Or a mask from Ozzy, Slayer, Metallica, Motorhead, Venom, Harley Davidson, Led Zep, Pink Floyd, etc. etc. etc. etc.

You are only emasculated if you end up in an intensive care unit too weak to have sex for the next few months/year or so because your lungs are so effed up you need long term care.

I thought part of masculinity was, you know, not giving a damn about appearances?

Possible, but the bills so far hasn't help the GOP nor Trump. With Trump I think it is more about his obnoxious, uncouth personality along with his very unpresidential behavior. He won't in my opinion be able to buy reelection. As for the senators, the Democrats have come up with very good candidates. They're not just throwing anyone up their and keeping their fingers crossed. If they lose, they'll lose with the best they have to offer. Hickenlooper, Colorado, Bullock, Montana, Kelly, Arizona, Cunningham, North Carolina, Gideon, Maine and McGrath Kentucky all give the Democrats a good shot at winning. I'm not saying all will win, but the Dems have put up their best.

    Felis Leo,
Only honest people who want to achieve a positive goal in society and have the appropriate knowledge and abilities are able to draw up appropriate tests. But, the simplest test may be the following - you need to exclude all voters who voted for Trump. For the one who votes for a dishonest and obviously stupid person is not worthy to elect the US president, and is not worthy to be a voter at all. Speaking in more detail, the tests should reveal political intelligence, the availability of education in the field of understanding the economy, law, personality traits, as well as the main question - a person should understand people and elect honest and competent politicians. Still, it is necessary to introduce a qualification test for US presidential candidates. And also for senators and congressmen. Since Republican congressmen and senators supported Trump, knowing that he could harm the United States, they are unworthy to occupy seats in the Senate and Congress.

Including, all current US politicians and congressmen, members of the government, should take the oath to always tell the truth. All current politicians and presidential candidates must be tested with a lie detector. The lies of any of the officials (including the president) should lead to his resignation, if proved in court. In addition, control authorities should be formed from persons elected on the basis of a special qualification. They must have the right to lustration (resign) of officials, and the veto over laws that do not comply with the US Constitution and the basic interests of US citizens.

The right of impeachment should not be with the Senate and Congress, but with the control bodies, elected on the basis of special qualifications. Since the Senate and Congress depend on voters, while the control bodies are not dependent on voters, but depend only on qualifications. When US political forces understand this and want to maintain power, they themselves will vote for the appropriate qualification, since it will clear the US political system of populism and lies. And also from slavish following the opinion of incompetent voters.

All this should be new amendments to the US Constitution.

Citizens would gain the status by pledging allegiance to the country and serving the country in military service actively initially and reserve for the duration of their citizenship afterwards, while providing other services for the country on occasion. PirateMk1,
If citizenship will be not mandatory, this will not improve the quality of voters, and therefore will not improve the quality of power. Since many "patriots" being incompetent people will want to be citizens. Therefore, such an approach will only worsen power and will not solve the problems faced by the United States and the developed countries of Europe. This problem is a crisis of modern democracy and its foundations, based on universal suffrage.

At the presidential level and in the House races, they have remained fairly static. But there is a mild trend in the senate that seems to be going the Democrats way.

All the close races are from the Republican side. If everything goes right for the democrats, they could have a net gain of six which would leave them with a 53-47 advantage. I doubt that will happen, most likely outcome, 51-49 democratic.

    Media credibility? Absent.

War on the truth? From every angle from every dynamic not just Trumps.

Do you think you're on the "good side" because you see Trump the way you do? Think again. There is no good side. We live in one giant toilet. Be careful you don't go down with the mess.
