Scott D. Pierce: Fox lawyers admit Tucker Carlson doesn’t always tell the truth - The Salt Lake Tribune

The Fox News legal team is defending against a slander lawsuit by claiming that (a) what Carlson says isn’t news; (b) he doesn’t necessarily do any research; and (c) what he says isn’t necessarily true.

“Would a reasonable viewer be coming here [to ‘Tucker Carlson Tonight’] and thinking, ‘This is where I’m going to be hearing the news of the day’?” Fox News attorney Erin Murphy asked in a hearing-via-telephone on Wednesday, according to reporter Frank G. Runyeons’s story at Law360.com.

This isn't news (see what I did there) but a FOX lawyer admitting it out loud is.

Mr. Lawyer is correct. I do not tune into Tucker to hear the news.
Who TF tunes into cable evening programming to hear the news???

But good to know Tucker is still an elephant-size burr under your saddles.

Good luck getting him to go away.

Tucker Carlson is not "news," and he does not pretend to be news.

He is offering his views and commentary on issues, as well as his opinions.

That's the point. Which is why the attorney is admitting it.

He's repeating Trump's opinions. Not offering his own.

Tucker Carlson Has Highest-Rated Program In Cable News History

Fox News Channel host Tucker Carlson closed out television’s second quarter with one for the record books: his Tucker Carlson Tonight finished the quarter as the highest-rated program in all of cable news for the first time since the show’s launch, delivering an average total audience of 4.331 million viewers. In the process, Carlson broke a record held by his colleague, Sean Hannity, for the highest-rated quarter of any cable news program—ever.

It was a solid quarter for the network, which finished in first place across all of cable television for the first time in the network’s history, beating out all basic cable networks among total viewers and viewers 25-54, the demographic group most valued by national advertisers.

Trumpists do not consider it news and it's actually just pure coincidence that they repeat the crap he says as if it were news.

You both forgot to mention you tune in to listen to Tucker's LIES (as his lawyers confirmed). Not being news is one thing. Being LIES is a whole other.

The judge concluded that Maddow was far too silly to be taken as a credible news source.

I'll start believing you when you start posting links to credible sources - link us to what judge said and quote the relevant part...

So he tells his LIES to a wide audience. What's your point?

You must think a popular magician show is real because a lot of people watch it?

At least Fox distinguishes it’s opinion shows from its news reports (and has for years) unlike most other networks who push their opinion as unbiased news reporting.

How long was it from the time you typed this until you busted out laughing?

But I suppose you think, Rachel Maddow is telling you the truth, or Don Lemon or Joe Scarbrough or a host of other liberal liars.

I don't watch any of those shows. Try again.

No that is what Rachel Madcow used......

Any belief that Rachel Maddow is a journalist was set to rest in a San Diego federal courtroom on Friday, with a federal judge dismissed a defamation lawsuit brought against Maddow. The judge concluded that Maddow was far too silly to be taken as a credible news source.

When you copy a website's words, you should put them into a quote box. The giveaway in this case -- "a San Diego federal courtroom on Friday" The Friday in the article was not 31 July but was instead 22 MAY Then your claim "The judge concluded that Maddow was far too silly to be taken as a credible news source." is not supported by the words of the judge.

Herring Networks, Inc v. Rachel Maddow, et al

Plaintiff did not dispute the veracity of the facts Maddow provided in her segment prior to making the allegedly defamatory statement—namely, that President Trump praised OAN and that Rouz is a staffer for OAN and writes articles for Sputnik News, which is affiliated with the Russian government. Rejecting plaintiff’s argument that Maddow failed to include the additional facts that Rouz has no decision-making authority with respect to the content that is aired on OAN and was merely a freelancer for Sputnik News, the court concluded that Maddow accurately presented Poulsen’s article and the basis for her statements; that these facts were true and not misleading; and that even if Maddow left out certain information, she did not “impl[y] a knowledge of facts which lead to the conclusion” that her statement was factual. Moreover, the Daily Beast article was displayed on the screen when Maddow made the allegedly defamatory statement, ensuring that viewers were seeing factual information simultaneously while Maddow expressed her opinion. The court concluded that in light of specific context surrounding Maddow’s comment, a reasonable viewer would not actually think OAN is paid Russian propaganda; therefore, this factor weighed in favor of a finding that the statement is opinion.

On Verizon the cable channel is labeled: Fox News HD In that context, he is fake news. he is everything Trump accuses everyone else of being. He is disgusting.

As long as you understand she is a total joke then we are good!

I'm not sure that their distinguishing ploy works on many of the viewers. "I saw it on TV, so it's true."

Not “ploy” truth and not just for them, unless MSNBC is pushing Maddow or whoever they have now, as an anchor or reporter? Whether viewers appreciate the distinction is a different thing.

fox isn't news. it's RNC propaganda.

That was my point. Viewers cannot appreciate the distinction.

Didn't Tucker Carlson break the Corona Virus story, back in January, when the virus infections and death was restricted to China? Trump acted on this "news" to shut down travel to and from China. The Democrats were still clueless to the risk that the virus would soon pose on the USA. Republicans now have video to play back during the election season boneheads in motion. The Democrats need to watch Tucker, to stay ahead of their own propaganda. They get boxed in and look silly and incompetent in the process.

I wonder if tucker will get the fake new award for journalism; Pulitzer Prize, like they gave for the Russian Collusion Delusion?

Tucker is effective, not because of an instinct for breaking news, but because he can unravel left wing propaganda and make the crap hit the Democrats. This is why they need to discredit him, less he spoil their devious bit predictable plans. The Democrats lose every fair fight. While Tucker makes cheater more difficult for the Democrats. This makes the Dems nervous and angry.
