In the fifties there were professionally imposed
journalistic standards.
The "News Departments" were not on the corporate chart.
They were independent entities associated with, CBS, NBC, etc.

Witness how the "News" has changed.
Choice of stories, (censorship) all the same. No first to break a new story.

And cable no longer carries alternatives such as
Al Jazeera or RT.

Something very monopolist has happened with our News. Even if it is BBC or PBS.

Across an immense, unguarded, ethereal border, Canadians, cool and unsympathetic,
regard our America with envious eyes and slowly and surely draw their plans against us.

We today have far more in common with the decade of the Thirties than any other.

The media used to be owned by people with direct interest in the operations of the media company. During the 80’s and after most media companies were bought by larger conglomerates whose main goal was to earn as much profit as possible. Hard news changed into fluff pieces to drive ratings and after revenue. Not that they were all that independent when it came to foreign news. They all pretty much toed the government line on international reporting. Domestically they we’re more independent.

Now all the mainstream media in the US sucks.

It happened way before Trump

But rather during "Centrist", RepubloCratic Rule
Clinton - Bush, Jr. - Obama !

Two Parties One Idea.
Social Programs paid by Working people to save the rich.
Witness ObamaCare and MediCare drug plans & donut holes.
What A Deal!

Disagree.

The Thirties had a News media spanning
Socialist - Workers - Communist,
Populist
And Party affiliations along with towers of outstanding journalistic values.

I Do Hope YOU Are Joking.

Today CNN = MSNBC = CBS = ABC = PBS = BBC = Fox = etc.

Their agenda of stories covered is censorship via choice of stories.
No one is first to "break a story".
No more Washington Post from the Watergate era.
They all have the same, same, stories.

I miss the days of Al Jazeera & RT News on my cable.
Remember they reported the oopsy bombing of a Doctors Without Borders hospital
near 2 weeks before the West.

You do realize that the Murdoch media empire reaches 75% of THE WORLD'S population, right?

I can't help but wonder how Walter Cronkite or Ed Murrow would handle all the bull**** in the media about Covid. Would they also have been willing dupes for the deception?

At least Cronkite called out the bull**** about Vietnam. Years later the Pentagon Papers basically vindicated Cronkite's skepticism.
