Rachel Maddow Wins Dismissal of OAN Defamation Lawsuit

A federal judge on Friday dismissed a lawsuit filed against Rachel Maddow, finding she did not defame One America News when she said it was “Russian propaganda.”

Herring Networks, the parent company of OAN, claimed that Maddow had defamed the company in July 2019, when she discussed a Daily Beast article reporting that an OAN contributor was also on the payroll of Sputnik, a Kremlin-backed news site.

If an OAN contributor is working for Sputnik, they are working for The Kremlin.
Both Sputnik AND Russia Today are organs of The Kremlin, these are facts.

I am surprised the judge did not penalize OAN for vexatious litigation, and I suspect the next time OAN tries a stunt like this, that is exactly what will happen.

Defamation is very, very difficult to win in the United States.

If Elon Musk can get away with what he did, OAN had no chance.

The issue for most people though, is there's no way they could afford to defend themselves against organizations like OAN and very wealthy people which is where anti-SLAPP laws came from but there are still many states that do not have anti-SLAPP legislation on the books which is worrying, but in Maddows case, the case was in California and so the case was dismissed with anti-SLAPP which means she can and should I think, seek those attorney fees.

They hate subject matter experts for some reason. I don't get it. These are important things and they refuse to believe the experts. However, if they need to get their El Camino fixed or one of their three teeth cleaned you know damn well they will see a subject matter expert.

Russia Today has hired plenty of people who are outspoken critics of Russia, like Abby Martin for example. You can criticize Russia and keep your job at RT.

The Russian paranoia is just about played out however. When are the cowards who sought a new cold war with Russia going to show the slightest bit of consistency, and place responsibility for 100k victims of coronavirus with China?
