Bretbug Stephens:

Sarah Bernhardt and Franz Kafka; Albert Einstein and Rosalind Franklin; Benjamin Disraeli and (sigh) Karl Marx — how is it that a people who never amounted even to one-third of 1 percent of the world’s population contributed so seminally to so many of its most pathbreaking ideas and innovations?

The common answer is that Jews are, or tend to be, smart. When it comes to Ashkenazi Jews, it’s true. “Ashkenazi Jews have the highest average I.Q. of any ethnic group for which there are reliable data,” noted one 2005 paper. “During the 20th century, they made up about 3 percent of the U.S. population but won 27 percent of the U.S. Nobel science prizes and 25 percent of the ACM Turing awards. They account for more than half of world chess champions.”

But the “Jews are smart” explanation obscures more than it illuminates. Aside from the perennial nature-or-nurture question of why so many Ashkenazi Jews have higher I.Q.s, there is the more difficult question of why that intelligence was so often matched by such bracing originality and high-minded purpose.

Jewish genius operates differently. It is prone to question the premise and rethink the concept; to ask why (or why not?) as often as how; to see the absurd in the mundane and the sublime in the absurd. Ashkenazi Jews might have a marginal advantage over their gentile peers when it comes to thinking better. Where their advantage more often lies is in thinking different.

What’s not secret about Jewish genius is that it’s a terribly fragile flower.

Opinion | The Secrets of Jewish Genius - The New York Times

We're better at thinking than you are, and you're just jealous of our superiority, says the NYT's Bretbug Stephens. Stephens, whose real name is Bret Ehrlich, was born in New York to a chemical company executive and attended boarding school at the Middlesex School in Massachusetts. He later attended the London School of Economics. His privileged upbringing and attendance at wealthy private schools failed to produce another Einstein, as Stephens ended up a neocon opinion page writer for the Jerusalem Post, Wall St Journal, and NYT. :lamo This is usually where the Jewish community sends their dumbest people, the ones who didn't have the intellectual prowess needed to attend medical school, law school, or finance school.

It's an opinion piece. As in "one man's opinion". The NY Times doesn't necessarily share this one man's view.

Sure they do, they hired him. They also hired Bari Weiss, a female version of Bret Stephens. They hired Sarah Jeong, and Michelle Goldberg. They hired Emma Goldberg and Norman Lebrecht. They've all expressed ethnocentric views, or written disparagingly about non-Jews.

Somebody got butt hurt by an opinion piece. Some one wrote disparagingly about non-Jews? How horrible! Its a good thing Jews have never been disparaged.

It's not even accurate. East Asians and Nordic people have higher average IQ. The paper from 2005 was conducted by an Ashkenazi woman, who delivered a paper which essentially says, 'i r smartest'.

Do you see headlines in the NYT claiming that anything is 'too Jewish'? I don't. Maybe that's why black people are going around NYC smacking them? We'll never know.

Do you consider this constructive?

This piece reminds me of that great intellect Reggie White of Green Bay when he put those size 14 shoes of his in his mouth.

Whoa!

This is a hot potato that most people (including me) will not touch. They keep their opinions limited to friends and family.

I will, however, just say this: I once read that if in the future, scientists are able to "prove" that certain groups are generally more intelligent than other groups, that "discovery" would have to remain a secret, lest it cause domestic unrest.

I agree: Such a "discovery" would be so hurtful that it would have to be hidden from the general public.

The opening post does well to remind us to consider the source of the nonsense.

I bet TAAC has never confronted the mutually exclusive nature of his idea that Jewish people are somehow inferior to him but also have always victimized him as part of a grand minority conspiracy to ruin his life, thus being the real cause of his many failures.

You've obviously got way too much time on your hands if this is significant. Nobody's embracing anything.

I never said it was accurate just the fact you are butt hurt by some neocon opinion piece that gets some of its information from a known white nationalist Nazi loon. I have no idea what "too Jewish" means. Like too Christian? LOL!

TAAC:

The 1930s called. They want their eugenics movement back.

Before you go believing this tripe, ask yourself who writes the questions which go into IQ tests? The biases of the creators are reflected in the results of the tested. The urban, well-educated, professionals who write these tests have little in common with inner-city poor and minority communities. Different cultural experiences mean that high intelligence can be hidden behind low IQ scores because the questions represent an alien culture and mode of thinking to those being examined.

Why are you so obsessed with racism and defaming Judaism in particular?

Evilroddy.

Einstein ideas weren't original. He just perfected them.

Coy racism? Well, isn't that charming.

He has apparently been horribly victimized by a tiny fraction of the world population. Strangely, he hasn't bothered to consider how this could be the case if he really was a member of the "master race."

Yeah, TAAC's arguments always seem to remind me of one of my favorite quotes from The Simpsons.

Ned Flanders : Pardon me, neighbourinos. Some of our boys are lost in your town. You wouldn't have happenned to see them, by any chance?

Shelbyvillian #1 : Sounds like Springfield's got a discipline problem.

Shelbyvillian #2 : Maybe that's why we beat them at football nearly half the time.

Nobody said fascists make sense. Their rhetoric is very contradictory as they must simultaneously believe they are the “master race” so the enemy is weak but everything they fail at must be attributed to an outside foe who is also a worldwide threat that must be exterminated.

I mean we can always do what charles murray and his ilk do and just ignore any data that would show contrary to the pre-conceived idea that his funders wanted to see and use alt-reich journals as sources....

Indeed an inferiority complex does not manifest itself along lines of rationality. If it did, it wouldn't exist.

Consequently delusions of grandeur along the lines of being superior arise, the pain thus caused by the cognitive dissonance involved causing the holder to find supposed relief in endless blathering over that same imagined superiority.

That none of that helps in the least can be seen by the endlessness of the failed effort.

Somewhat reminiscent of somebody running in ever-increasing velocity around a tree in circles, all in the hope of eventually being able to disappear up his or her own behind.

Not completely devoid of comic effect but at the end of the day pathetically sad to watch.

For somebody "blessing" this site as much with opinion pieces as you do, you sure show how important it is to you that this one here ain't one at all.

But then you take them as they suit you, so no surprise.

Just watch that you're not strangled by your own coat-tails, what with how you let the wind hurl them this way today and that way tomorrow.

If enough people are trying hard enough for long enough to exterminate you, your surviviors will be smarter.

It's simple logic and genetics.

And I'm not Jewish (but a mongrel, so who knows, but I got the spatial/conceptual genius set and that variant includes all the aspects attributed to ashkenazis in the article. And it further stands to reason the purge survivors would have higher percentages of folks who can infer the other side of the box accurately.

Actually, the clouding is covering another uncomfortable truth.

The difference between average and impaired is less than the difference between average and genius.

There's a reason very smart people have found themselves being "culled" from time to time.

Just imagine how easily you could trick and manipulate a mentally handicapped person then ask yourself how easily someone much smarter than you are smarter than that handicapped person and consider how well you would fare in a battle of wits against them.

I think this is actively "managed" by propaganda designed to put the focus on differences between races instead of between individuals.

Because the simple truth is its all averages and any group that tests lower overall contains individuals who test far higher than the average of the highest group overall.

So smug whites don't like it when you say, "Ok, maybe, but there's still a lot of black folks that are far smarter than you are."

He has apparently been horribly victimized by a tiny fraction of the world population. Strangely, he hasn't bothered to consider how this could be the case if he really was a member of the "master race."

I could ask the same question of you, or of Bret Stephens. I don't believe in a 'master race' theory, which I've told you dozens of times. You're deliberately misrepresenting facts, OK no surprise there, that's what you do for a living. We've found the fragile flower that Bret Stephens mentioned in his Times article.
