TV services - stuck in the 20th century

Will any of the TV services ever grow out of the defunct and useless 20th century standards?

I will not use any cable, dish or streaming television service that requires I get CNN, MSNBC or any of the other propaganda outlets that spew endless lies and misinformation. Right now I use only Klowd and (reluctantly) Amazon Prime as the only two pay services - all else is free content (with commercials) such as Crackle and Western TV. Surprisingly, I don't miss most of the trash offered by the various "packaged" services since I have about 70 years of free content such as Dragnet, Peter Gunn, Bewitched and I dream of Jeannie.

If some innovator ever offers a "pick and choose" option, I will give it a try - I will never spend a penny of my money on the left wing porno trash presently offered by the TDS crowd.

Dale Gribble is that you?

How amusing - and sad - that you don't understand what I'm talking about.

As for "old enough" - my families first TV was purchased used around 1951 or 1952. It had a 4 inch screen and a sliding 7 or 8 inch magnifying glass that dropped over the smaller tv screen to make the picture larger. At that time there were dozens of television series with great content that I loved to watch. Pinky Lee, The Lone Ranger - on weekends there was the Buster Brown Show - "Hiya kids, hiya hiya" and Annie Oakley and Kit Carson and Sky King and Barnacle Bill, etc, etc. No political or social commentary were used - just clean childish entertainment aimed at amusing and NOT propagandizing the audience. Deviant subjects were not required or wanted.

Back in my day we walked 10 miles a day to and from school barefoot in the snow!:lamo

Dale Gribble is that you?

I googled your apparently smarmy response to see that Dale Dribble is a cartoon character. One question: Does dear old Dale support President Trump or is he a traitor?

That was nothing - - - Back in my day we walked 10 miles a day to and from school barefoot in the snow and it was uphill both ways.

Well yeah, you're a cartoon character..

Amazon Channels. You can pick and subscribe to anything you want.

Also WarnerMedia is coming out with HBO Max which will include CNN.

And Fox News actually has streaming so you can watch Trump Hero Nation 24/7

That's nothing! back in my day we were so poor that burglars would break in our house and leave us money and my mom had to roll her own tampons!

You, my child, don't have a clue!

Yadda yadda yadda

I'm 71, from a family that has fought for this nation since the French Indian wars. You are FOS. And your miserable attitude means no one cares a hoot.

Back then, everyone could afford an ice box - it was getting the ice that could be a problem - why have an ice box when you live in an area where they don't deliver ice every day?

Clueless. Not everyone could afford an ice box. Not even used ones. Clueless, you were and remain.

Yeah, but did you have to wear short pants and clip on neckties? :)

They're either just trolling or afraid of change, longing for "the good ole days"

Yeah, my pants were so short, they kids would taunt me by saying "The water is low, the land is dry, why do you wear your pants so high?"

Trolling. The good ole days weren't all that good. :)

When I was young, my grandfather told me people had sex before marriage when he was young, and cheated on their spouses when he was not so young. Nothing had changed except people spoke about sex a bit more openly in modern times. Then he would berate my movies cowboy heroes saying they weren't real cowboys like Hoot Gibson and Tom Mix, as if I knew who they were. :lamo @ myself

He also advised me to never marry a virgin. They didn't know what they were doing and I'd have to waste time training. :) He was a randy old SOB, and I can't recall how many times my mother railed against him for corrupting her boys. My father got a kick out of their battles, as long as they didn't involve him. What went on between my mother and her father was none of his business according to him. He'd tell her "better from your father than in the streets." He only got upset when a new box of condoms went missing. I always blamed my sisters. That raised some eyebrows. Both were pregnant at the altar.

Bingo, Also if you're not familiar with Charles Bukowski, I highly recommend reading some of his stuff. You'll relate and find it amusing. Start out with Post office or Factotum.

When will you people figure out that the rest of America does not care about what sex you think you might want to be today, or what sex you want to be tomorrow or the day after that.
We don't care what you do in the privacy of your home or even in the back seat of your car - as long as you make some minor attempt to be discreet about it and not try to force me to accept whatever you might consider your sexual orientation on any given day.

The more you people fight back without any attempt at moderation, the more restrictions I will support against you.

When will you figure out that most of us every day Americans don't care about you or your agenda as long as you leave us alone.

But apparently its not vice versa. You appear to have no compunction about restricting the rights of people with differing sexual orientations.

His books are well worn here.

"but still she looked good to me, she still looked good,
and all thanks to an ugly horse
who wrote this poem."

Aren’t I simple? I thought the reference was to Charles Bronson, back when he was called Charles Buchinsky..........

I ain't gonna try to top that one - you win!!!

I'm 73 and can trace my ancestry back to 1630 Yarmouth and 1620 New Amsterdam. I have proof that my family fought in the Revolutionary war, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, and the Gulf War. You are a damf without a clue. Like most left wingers, you can spell but have no clue what the words mean.

Sounds like you really want to perpetuate ignorance.

Boo hoo, you can't be bothered to ever listen to a dissenting opinion. Stay ignorant, you have chose that path. Don't be surprised when the world leaves you far, far behind.

I have zero condolences for you, you have chosen to put the blinders on, and you will suffer from it.

I have a few friends and one sister that are basically the same way. My sister doesn't even own a TV. IMHO, people like that are basically selfish and feel they are smarter than everyone else. They watch no news and could care less what is going on around them. I too believe they are suffering from it.

Clueless. Not everyone could afford an ice box. Not even used ones. Clueless, you were and remain.

5 wooden sides about 2' X 2" with a wood door in front and a hole in the bottom to drip the ice water. Sit it on a couple of bricks and place a pan under the hole as a catch basin for the ice water. Any idiot including my mother could build one with scrap wood. Items were placed in close or distant proximity to the ice (or on the ice) depending on the item. Cover the "ice box" with a blanket in the summer and move onto the porch in the winter.

Your words again prove you came from rich people who could afford the best. Do you know what a wash board is - no, not a musical instrument.

OMG - clip on ties - I hated those things - preferred string ties. Luckily, no shorts required - did you wear knickers with them? LOL

You're wrong - I don't want to restrict or restrain their proclivities - I don't want acceptance of them forced on me. Out of sight, out of mind.

Thank the gods you are not burdened with the esoteric data from a classical education. :) Not that Bukowski was ever part of any classical education. But he fit the criteria, an alcoholic and other substance abuser.

"I dreamt a dream! What can it mean?"

''Truly, My Satan, thou art but a Dunce,
And dost not know the Garment from the Man.
Every Harlot was a Virgin once,
Nor can'st thou ever change Kate into Nan.''

Robert Blake, after Ezra Pound, the greatest master of the English language, and Ezra didn't need alcohol and drugs to reach the depths of his soul. His genius was already beyond sanity as we know it.

"I have brought the great ball of crystal;
Who can lift it?
Can you enter the great acorn of light?
But the beauty is not the madness
Tho' my errors and wrecks lie about me.
And I am not a demigod,
I cannot make it cohere."

Meh, what do I know?
