This is what we should expect of a neutral and fair "news" source. Rather than report on what the republicans are doing to counter the democrats and letting the reader decide whether it's a smokescreen or whether it constitutes "peddling", our fair and neutral "news" source here is telling the reader what to think of the republicans.

Sounds like something the democrats would characterize the republicans as doing: 'peddling a smokescreen'.

What business does a fair and neutral "news" source have in taking the democrat side?

Ah - then this "news" source is no longer fair and neutral? I wonder if CNN would ever characterize the democrats as "peddling" the impeachment process?

Much as I'd like to agree with you, I would like a link to the news source for personal review.

Having said that, I have already pointed out in a different thread how "sensational headlines" which are not supported by the actual facts are one type of "fake news" the MSM likes to use to affect public opinion. I'd like to see which source this issue comes from.

These are some examples of the types of "fake news."

1. Sensational Headlines. You may notice that media organizations present either a "headline" for print media, or a "banner" at the bottom of the screen for TV/Video presentations. A "sensational headline" is where the media makes a claim in the headline or banner that is radically different than the actual evidence it is based on reveals. The headline/banner is then supported by commentary/opinion posing as news. However, you then find buried near the bottom of the article the actual information which does not support the headline. When it come to TV/Video presentations, the actual information is mentioned as an "aside" at some point near the end of the lengthy commentary/discussion followed by a swift change to another story...

So do you have a link to this news source? Without the link your OP looks a lot like a strawman.

We'll see if the republicans come up with more smoke.

Then it will just be accurate reporting.

Outside of the cult it looks pretty pathetic.

And like chaff.

Meh. Trump has been calling them "the enemy of the people" since before his election, so screw him. If I were in the media, I'd be doing worse than this.

American cable television news is a for-profit consumer product.

It is impossible to get around this fact.

They already have.

It happens to be the exact opposite of what they were saying two weeks ago.

In the absence of any evidence or testimony that actually supports Trump’s ever changing story, watching the Republicans do rhetorical somersaults to keep up is already embarrassing to some, and will be to all before it’s over.

My apologies - all of my screenshots are from CNN unless otherwise noted:

Trump impeachment probe: Republicans push distractions ahead of televised hearings - CNNPolitics

Two days before televised impeachment hearings begin, Donald Trump's allies are peddling a smokescreen of conspiracy theories and distractions, hoping to sow confusion over the case against him.

The politics section is usually opinion. I often hear conservatives hear saying that Hannity is not news, it's opinion, therefore it's OK.

Are you disagreeing with that? Or is this just another "Republicans are the most persecuted people in the world" thread?

So..... Where did that headline and image actually come from? Neither is in the link you posted.

Oh, and what is the GOP pushing that isn’t a distortion or a distraction?

There’s no sign that they’re making a fact based argument.

And they’ve all but given up on the notion that Trump is competent, respected, reliable, or honest.

With respect, Trump is calling fake news the enemy of the people.

I find it amusing that the fake news plays a clip of Trump saying that fake news is the enemy of the people and then they say out loud that he said the media is the enemy of the people.

The example I'm thinking of was on the Fox News Sunday show with Chris Wallace. I expect more from Wallace. My esteem for him fell off the table due to that particular segment.

The media is a disgusting group of lying a-holes that seem to prefer making up a story to accurately reporting things that actually happened in the real world.

With respect, Trump is the accused and is innocent until proven guilty.

The ever changing attacks made by pencil neck and his band of suck ups are the things you need to be concerned with.

I understand that Quid Pro Quo is no longer a concern for ol' Shifty. Is that correct?

Also that Russian colluuuuuuuuuuuuuuusion is no longer a thing and that Kavanaugh is a justice on the SCOTUS.

Is it possible that Trump is addressing different points because the lying a-holes attacking him are continuously making up different fantasies to attack him?

With respect, the Democrat-Socialists keep making unfounded, unproven, and often unsourced accusations. They've been doing so since 2016. seems like this is just one more.

Trump is dealing with these a-holes who are lying about him and you are believing the lies EVEN THOUGH EVERY LIE HAS BEEN SHOWN TO BE A LIE.

Why are you STILL believing the lies told by the lying a-holes. Stockholm syndrome? So many on this board continue to swallow the bait, it just makes me wonder why.

First of all, Donald Trump is not on trial yet. Although he will be.

Second, I have no idea where you got this nonsense about “ever changing story” from.

The story has been very consistent, and has evolved steadily as the evidence and testimony has continued to pile up.

Trump is down to fighting a rear guard effort to block witnesses from testifying.

He’s in the same box Nixon eventually found himself in. Obstruction is one of his two remaining weapons.

The other is making up any nonsense he can think of to hold his right wing talk radio base.

Perhaps you got it from the blog you actually used to cite in the OP, since we both know it wasn’t CNN, as you falsely tried to imply.

Finally, Quid pro quo is a Trump construct. It is not the case the impeachment inquiry needs to make, although it’s obvious that case is made by multiple witnesses.

The ask was enough.

Offering up the influence of your office to a head of another country in return for help in a domestic election is disloyal. Period.

Trump put his political survival above the survival of the Ukraine, and above the strategic interests of the United States.

Period.

The childish little name calling doesn’t make a case either.

Again with the familiar talking points.

The problem for Trumpsters is that these “unfounded” accusations have mostly turned out to be true.

Trump did coordinate his campaign with the Russians and his campaign was in regular contact with Russian intelligence and Russians close to Putin.

The Mueller Report is thoroughly documented and accurate, and includes the first hand accounts of many of the people involved.

I have always been amazed that Trumpsters keep making this silly claim. It didn’t survive the first six months of 2017 in terms of accuracy.

Besides, Trump himself has confirmed much of it, with his four part defense, denial, admission, so what?, and what are you going to do about it?.

So when Republicans do deplorable things, the news should sugar coat it? That wouldn't be truthful, or accurate.
Stop behaving like ****ing rabid baboons, and you'll be reported as not being rabid baboons in most cases.

Good grief. Why don't you compare Hannity to Maddow, or Rush to NPR, or Tucker to Ari Melber. Tally up the bull**** lies, fake news, **** guests, and how much they literally attack the "opposition" party based on ad hom and such.
Yes, you'll have it on both sides, but in what proportion?

2 vs 2040?

But then you'll be here pointing to those 2 occurrences on non-right-wing media, and saying, "LOOK, they both do it!!!!".

Lordy how stupid our nation is. And there is ad hom, and there is false information. Big difference these days in what facts get out there. We have right wingers for the past three years straight up pushing conspiracy theories and lies, without even blinking. Yeah, you might get called dumb ****ers in return. OK...so stop lying, and the attacks of that bad behavior, also stop.

Fake news is the enemy of the people.

But the “fake news” that Trump is talking about has nothing to do with that.

The term originated with the tsunami of fake websites that were pushed through Facebook, instagram and twitter by Russian operatives in order to sow discord in the US, promote partisan division and (eventually), promote the candidacy of Donald Trump.

And Trump’s hard core supporters fell hard for the campaign, retweeting, sharing and posting FSB propoganda pieces on forums like this one.

Russian generated fake news even made it onto some of the right wing trash blogs.

Trump, when confronted with this, inverted the term to mean any reporting that wasn’t fawning praise of him.

This was a delight to his sycophantic base. It also absolved them of having to admit that they had been played for useful idiots.

Trumps tweet...

"The press is doing everything within their power to fight the magnificence of the phrase, MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN! They can’t stand the fact that this Administration has done more than virtually any other Administration in its first 2yrs. They are truly the ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!"

The press. Not "fake news".

Oh I see. So reporting the facts that republicans are all over the map in trying to defend the Dear Leader that they resorting to multiple conspiracy theories, whataboutery, and utter nonsense is in some way fake news?

Peddling a smokescreen seem to be a perfect description of the defense strategy. Why are you whining about media bias for reporting what is happening?

With respect, Trump is calling fake news the enemy of the people.

What fake news? EXACTLY. So effectively any news that doesn't go in Trump's favor is fake news. Therefore, "most" of the media is the enemy of the people according to him. And he even attacked Fox News.

It says "ANALYSIS" in a corner of the photograph. It looks to me like it's an editorial, not a news article. Editorials are opinion pieces. Kinda like your OP.

"The story has been very consistent, and has evolved steadily": Do you see the conflict presented in these words? The only consistency is that the Democrat-Socialists keep lying in desperation.

"The ask was enough.": Can you quote making "the ask"? What EXACTLY was he asking for?

You guys are ridiculous.

By 2024, Trump will have place two more justices on the SCOTUS and the Court will be Constructionist for the next 30 years.

Why do you oppose peace and prosperity?

Are you confusing me with a different poster who referenced CNN?
