Me and the missus were recently on travel to Europe. The only news feed on tv was CNN. We usually keep MSNBC on at home, mostly as background noise. We turn to FOX every now and then. When Shepard Smith quit we were left with one less source. The slant on CNN is really apparent when it is the only option. I admit that MSNBC has it’s bias, but I find them to be more mid line than any other “news” outlets.

For me, a better background noise is two dogs fighting. Or felines copulating.

Those are jokes, of course.

The best background noise is the sound of the ocean. :)

Al Jazeera is more neutral, but they are boring. I don't watch TV news anymore unless i see something on twitter that grabs me.

Rexedgar:

Yup. CNN has become an agenda-driven "news" network which is more concerned with selling spin/propaganda than it is with reporting the news objectively, in my opinion. Ted Turner must be aghast at what his innovative network has become. I cannot bear to watch the network for more than a couple of minutes at a time before the miasma of rank political partisanship and choking editorialism force me to change channels. CNN international is only slightly better.

Cheers.

To be honest, it's not the news people we need to worry about it's the two David Koresh's (Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity).

They spread more hate and division and lies then all of the networks combined And their followers are a congregation like in a church.

Drawdown:

Your quote well illustrates the problem facing the news industry. News is not about entertainment. It's about delivering factual information without partisanship and with minimum bias, as objectively as possible. News should be boring most of the time. Reporting news objectively is a public service and should not be a money maker for any media company. News with context is more tricky as there is a fine line between placing a story in a proper context and spinning a story with an imposed narrative which can eclipse the facts of the story.

Their news is boring because they focus too much on overseas stuff, not because they don't have the best punchlines. I can watch it in small doses, but not regularly because I don't want to see yet another third world process story.

Third World process story? What's that?

You do realise that there are 7.2 billion humans on Earth and about 6.8 billion of them are not in America? What's with the US navel gazing? The news of the world is as important as the news around the Beltway.

Cheers.

Not as important to me. I did not say they should not do it. I am just not going to watch much of it.

Sorry, but those two would not have half the following if the MSM was more bipartisan. Let's face it, FOX and Rush Limbaugh are the only sources for the conservative viewpoint. The MSM is so far left that conservative views don't get any airtime on their networks.

Fox and Rush and all the conservative websites have massive control over the Republican party.

And they spread lies like crazy. And people that go to church believe them.

Actually, they don't outright lie. They just don't give the other viewpoint. Just like CNN or MCNBC for the other side.

Oh, they definitely leave out tons of facts but don't kid yourself and think they don't lie because they do.

And you don't think the MSM aren't just as bad? CNN? MSNBC?

Al Jazeera is OKish, but I prefer Associated Press or even PBS Newshour.

Didn't know AP had a broadcast. Newshour I used to watch but I drifted away from it after Charlie Rose. I used to really love Charlie Rose for top story/analysis in a less vacuum packed sort of way but of course he was one of the early #MeToo casualties. Haven't watched much PBS since except for Downton or one of the crime drama binges when they are showing back to backs on a rainy weekend.

AP doesn't unless you count some livestreams. My bad.

I would also push for Telesur which has livestream. Great to get info from different perspectives.

First, is Fox part of the MSM?

Of course Fox is part of the MSM (Main Stream Media), along with MSNBC, ABC, etc. I always find it amusing that the Trump worshipers label all main stream news sources on TV as MSM, except for Fox. Alternate universe? We don't watch CNN, mostly MSNBC and we switch to Fox to see what they are 'reporting'. Also visit non-MSM news sources like PBS, NPR, Time, etc. Don't visit WND, The Blaze, etc., not interested in conspiracy, will watch Trump rallies for that. ;)

Nobody should watch infotainment, unless it's admitted comedy.
