Rickeroo's Google Doodle watch

I'm not looking at this from my point of view. Why do you think white men aren't Doodled? It's because it's not a big deal when white men accomplish.

If I get a 74 on a math test, and a Down Syndrome kid gets a 74, who deserves to be celebrated? Exactly: This is the thought process behind most Doodles.
I don't expect you to do well in any test. I would celebrate you because I think you really deserve it. The Down Syndrome can be celebrated too.

Not sure where your confusion is..

Tokens. Non-whites and women will be (and have been) over-represented, I have absolutely no doubt of this. I tried looking at the history of Doodles, but it looks like Google mixes the non-US ones in too.
Women make up 50% of the human population. Google operates globally. Are you under the impression that the majority of this planet is white?

Google has different Doodles by country:

Chrisye’s 70th Birthday

I'll be focusing on the US versions - those that appear when I do a search. I don't see Chrisyes, I see the "Mexican American" botanist.

Why are you mad that Americans are learning that history includes more figures than the ones they assign to kids for 9 months out of the year?

Should the doodles be about Confederate soldiers instead? That what you want us to learn about Rickeroo?

I am interested in what the Doodle watch will show.

For reference, nonhispanic white males are about 30% of the population of the U.S. Obviously they are a much lower percentage of the world population.

Rickeroo seems awfully bitter. AND he seems to take a lot of unearned pride in the achievements of white males even though he hasn't had anything to do with them. How is the race or gender of the high-achiever featured at Google relevant to Rick? It's not like he helped the white males accomplish anything. He earns no reflected glory for the coincidence of being born into the same demographic. There has been no lack of stories about accomplished white males to affect what he can imagine about his potential. If he's too old to have "potential" he can rest assured that the white boys coming up will see plenty of stories about accomplished white males to help shape their dreams. Rick would still find something racial to be bitter about even if 100% of the Google doodles were about white males.

Maybe behind your doodles.
But you aren't a google employee, so I doubt you'd have a clue on what or why google doodles.

Your opinion only reflects your narrow belief world.

I'm just curious as to who else he thinks we should look at. Maybe Google should do a Jesus piece? Then a Dick Cheney one. Maybe Christopher Columbus?

BB King today:

Capture.JPG

Yes, the guy is black and should count towards the Doodle Watch. However, in looking at the Wikipedia article, it says:

was an American singer-songwriter, guitarist, and record producer

I must admit I'm pretty shocked here. Where is the "African" qualifier? Where is the racial designation that separates and discriminates BB King from other Americans, as it did for our "Mexican" botanist friend?

I lose this round. Yes, BB King is black, but his wiki article clearly identifies him as an American and not "African".

I wonder how many people get the point of my Doodle Watch, or the CNN watch.

So I've been looking at the Doodles, forced to see them because of the use of the search engine, and I noticed that the themes slant heavily leftist, "diverse", women or otherwise obsessed with anything not male and not white. I'll keep track here.
Someone did the actual legwork 5 years ago and found the exact opposite of what you’re suggesting, though that led Google to explicitly promise to redress the balance in future (Doodle Us | Spark Movement). Maybe you should do similar statistical work today rather than cherry-picking examples that meet your preconceptions?

This person is characterized as "Mexican American", because obviously her race (and sex and/ or gender) had everything to do with her accomplishments.
I’m pretty sure “Mexican American” refers to her nationality, her father being Mexican and her mother being American. Both countries have diverse and highly mixed racial groupings so it’d be highly questionable to call either term a racial category.

Indeed, she has dual citizenship.

Wiki gives her nationality as American and below that lists both citizenships.

Nationality: American
Citizenship: United States, Mexico

As I've said before, the Doodle archive is littered with "International" Doodles that don't show up in the US. I started yesterday with a statistical sample of "US-only" Doodles, so far N=2. I may not get to report every day, but when I do I won't cherry-pick, as I know I don't have to.

Anyone is free to start their own "Rickeroo Watch as he watches Doodles" thread to point out anytime that I'm not reporting a white guy being Doodled. I expect screenshot verification.

Help Help

I am being oppressed by Googles Doodles, they have to many people and things on there that do not look like me. Not that I ever noticed, despite using Google every day, the last time I clicked on the Google doodle intentionally was I believe when they had a digging style game on it or asteriods

You could include the non-American ones (they're still relevant to your complaint after all) or, as they’re specifically labelled, you could easily exclude them. The fact remains that the data is available for a relatively formal and structured assessment. A narrative post every time you see a new one doesn’t really provide any meaningful information. Even if it is unintentional, your bias means you’re going to oversell the examples you feel aren’t appropriate and gloss over all the ones which you think are OK so the overall perception will be slanted. This is precisely why we have statistics.

My perception may be slanted, but the record of US Doodles will be there. People are free to say, "There were 100 whites and 3 blacks and you're still complaining".

I stay away from the international Doodles because I'm far less aware of the racial / politically correct dynamics of those countries. I looked at the archive and it's a mess. Chrisyes and Lupicnio's something birthdays are not labeled by country. The only reliable way I can see to get US-based Doodles is to go day by day. I'll be happy to look at a filter that says "show me only the US Doodles" but I can't see it.

The op is really triggered by diversity.

Well well a classic alt-reich case of selection bias and a shrill foaming at the mouth “but but google is forcing me to see a black man!” Ladies and gentlemen your vanguard of the white race! :lamo

Why no whiteys?! Im so oppressed!

No no, the asteroid one is a white woman. I'm keeping a fair count here. So far: Mexican American woman, Black man, white woman.

Hey whatever floats your boat. You were the one bitching about lack of whiteys on google doodle that forced you to see someone that doesnt look like you.

Even a gay white man would count in the case he's trying to make against Google.
