Jonah Goldberg in today's "National Review" brilliantly illustrates the glaring double standard in today's media as well as the hypocrisy that always exists in so much of the political vitriol.

The Media's Double Standard on Culture-War Controversies | National Review

In summary:

When both were in government in Indiana, Mike Pence and Pete Buttigieg got along famously, spoke well of each other, and cooperated seamlessly to get things done. But once Buttigieg became a Presidential candidate, all of a sudden Mike Pence is miraculously homophobic with 'problems with Buttigieg's sexuality and marriage to another man.' (Something Mike Pence has never said by the way.)

The leftwing media ate it up pretty much taking Buttigieg's side in every regard. It is easy for the media. Buttigieg is the victim and Pence is the bigot.

All white people who have a problem with Buttigieg about anything make him a victim and all are homophobic bigots and/or religious fanatics or however the media choose to characterize them. Just as any white people who criticized Barack Obama about anything were characterized in all sorts of ways as racists who hated black people. It is still being said in the media and on message boards to this day.

But when Buttigieg is informed that a lot of black people, especially the more religious ones, could have a problem with his sexuality and/or same sex marriage, the media treads very very carefully with that.

Buttigieg and the media and the Democrats in general can call white people bigots and homophobes with impunity even though very few are. But to call black people who have a problem with same sex marriage as homophobic bigots would be political suicide.

So what to do?

Wouldn't it be great if just once everybody could be intellectually honest and say things as they are? Without being accused of being racist or homophobic or bigots and worse?

Mike Pence is always been homophobic, when he was governor and passed anti gay laws RFRA law signed by Mike Pence had controversial impact on Indiana

When you are a mayor of a city in a state, you have to play nice with the governor because he can make your life a living hell. So I'm sure Pete was being political and playing nice, out of necessity. THere is no double standard, Pence has always been an homophobic asshole, as indicated by his actions as governor. The homophobic Pence media was already there thanks to his actions as governor

you talk about intellectual dishonesty, but the article is not being honest. It's an opinion piece on a right leaning website. So your comment is completely ridiculous

So a conservative opinion is inherently dishonest?

"Phobic" means "afraid of." Presumably, to say that Mike Pence is "homophobic" means he's afraid of homosexuals, and yet I've never seen any evidence of that. On the contrary, what kind of homophobe invites the Irish prime minister and his husband to his home for "a really warm reception" and breakfast? It's just a case of Buttigieg disingenuously bastardizing the English language and tossing out a provocative epithet as a means of scoring political propaganda points.

that's not what I said, and in fact, I pointed to the facts that showed why the opinion displayed in that article was dishonest.

Sadly, more often than not, conservatives arguments are dishonest, as your response shows. Because more often than not they don't have facts to support their position, so they have to be dishonest. Just like you have no argument against the actual point I made, so you have to be dishonest and make up an argument I never made.

Thanks again for validating a liberal's position.

If there's one thing about Mike Pence I appreciate, it's that he's a righteous bigot and doesn't try and hide it.

And more dishonesty, playing semantics, and falsely so., If People like Pence and other bigoted religious people are not afraid of gay people, why do they want to be free to discriminated against them? Ban them from marrying? All those things have absolutely no effect on their lives.

Staying with your theme of intellectual honesty....
The only reason they dishonestly name call from the basket of deplorables stuff is because they've lost the argument or are frantic to control the narrative. That's why they doubled down with the fake narratives, and busy themselves while tossing pejoratives at us... These people are really angry that Trump had the audacity to win.
Sure, it would be great but until the left reaches rock bottom and finally realizes it's not working for them, nothing will change.

Sorry to burst your bubble but it was mostly the religious, minority Democrats who voted against Gay marriage in CA; CA Prop. 8. And this is not debatable as factual information supports my statement.

Why gays, blacks are divided on Prop. 8 - LA Times

It works for them so long as they have a surrogate media aiding and abetting the dishonest narratives.

In this case though, with Buttigieg, they are between a rock and a hard place. Neither whites nor blacks have a problem with black people these days. And most white people have no philosophical problem with same sex marriage. But when a sizable number of the black community has a problem with same sex marriage, how do they handle that?

It all goes to illustrate how really manipulative all the mudslinging is, and glaringly illustrates how disingenuous they are when they are caught in a massive double standard or hypocrisy. :)

What in the world, do you think you of all people have to add to the topic of hypocrisy, double standards and dishonest narratives when you engage in the practice daily on this forum and support a man in the White House that sometimes has a tendency to do it at a frequency that is literally tearing a hole in reality

It's better if she supported the Democratic Party's loser's hypocrisy, double standards, and dishonest narratives?
She has a right to her vote just like you did.

Better luck next time.

Playing semantics? Buttigieg said Pence "advances homophobic policies." Like what? Traditional marriage? You know, I don't recall anyone referring to Bill Clinton as a bigot or a homophobe when he was signing the Defense of Marriage Act.

Most of the mainstream media is liberal on social issues and reluctant to report news that portrays homosexuals and blacks unfavorably.

This disinclination on the part of the mainstream media created employment opportunities for Rush Limbaugh and other right wing talk show hosts. It made possible FOX News and its large following.
