The goal of concentration camps has always been to be ignored. The German-Jewish political theorist Hannah Arendt, who was imprisoned by the Gestapo and interned in a French camp, wrote a few years afterward about the different levels of concentration camps. Extermination camps were the most extreme; others were just about getting “undesirable elements … out of the way.” All had one thing in common: “The human masses sealed off in them are treated as if they no longer existed, as if what happened to them were no longer of interest to anybody, as if they were already dead.”

...There are now at least 48,000 people detained in ICE facilities, which a former official told BuzzFeed News “could swell indefinitely.” Customs and Border Protection officials apprehended more than 144,000 people on the Southwest border last month. (The New York Times dutifully reported this as evidence of a “dramatic surge in border crossings,” rather than what it was: The administration using its own surge of arrests to justify the rest of its policies.)

The Department of Homeland Security's Inspector General has found "dangerous overcrowding" and unsanitary conditions at an El Paso, Texas, Border Patrol processing facility following an unannounced inspection, according to a new report. The IG found "standing room only conditions" at the El Paso Del Norte Processing Center, which has a maximum capacity of 125 migrants. On May 7 and 8, logs indicated that there were "approximately 750 and 900 detainees, respectively."

"We also observed detainees standing on toilets in the cells to make room and gain breathing space, thus limiting access to the toilets," the report states. The report was first obtained by CNN. A cell with a maximum capacity of 12 held 76 detainees, another with a maximum capacity of eight held 41, and another with a maximum capacity of 35 held 155, according to the report.

The less we know about them, the better we can sleep at night. I realize. of course, that I am making an assumption, that we all believe in human dignity. But since our leader doesn't....

Put more judges and lawyers on the cases so they can be processed more quickly.

Typical. Whatever you do, don't address the cause of the problem. People are streaming across the border in record numbers to live in concentration camps?

or stem the flow of illegals. Why promote illegal and abusive behavior? Congress should change the asylum laws to eliminate the bogus loopholes.

They're all hopped up by the prospect of making America great again.

Without competent leadership, none of this will happen.

Correct. Leadership in Congress has failed to address immigration and asylum laws long before the current administration.

Amazingly, when you start talking about sealing off the border and shutting down asylum, lots of people who otherwise might not have been quite at the stage of seeking it do so.

So they have finally installed the gas chambers, gallows and firing squad walls? Glad to hear you know what you are talking about. Better yet go to Dachau just outside Munich and see what you are talking about. Then come back and apologize for that nonsense post of yours.

Competent leadership could address this problem.

Yeah. Who woulda thunk putting Donald McDonald in charge might have consequences.

Building a wall and working with Mexico to stop them before they get here IS addressing the problem.

How much wall is built? How much has Mexico actually done?

It's all nonsense Trump uses to energize the gullible.

Absolutely!!

No one but White, Professional, Financially Solvent, Christian people from White European countries should be allowed to apply for asylum in the United States of America.

Right?

Kind of hard to build the wall that border security is requesting when congress refuses to approve funding. Declaring a national emergency only gives him about 25% of what is needed.

Since the mere mention of Trump is so triggering, I'll just refer to him as "a President". A President can only do so much on his own and there is no way that this problem is going to get solved without the legislative branch getting involved.

If you knew what a "concentration camp" actually was, then you wouldn't look so foolish.

Did you know that, in the 20th Century, BOTH Canada and the United States of America had government built and run concentration camps? Did you know that, in the 20th Century, BOTH Canada and the United States of America herded their own citizens into those concentration camps without any sort of judicial review whatsoever (frequently at gun point [and where people who had not been convicted of any crime could be killed if they attempted to leave])?

Did you know that, in the 21st Century, only one of Canada and the United States of America still operates government build and run concentration camps where people are incarcerated without any sort of judicial review whatsoever (frequently at gun point [and where people who had not been convicted of any crime could be killed if they attempted to leave])? Do you know which of those two still operates concentration camps?

Unless, of course, that President happens NOT to be a Republican - in which case everything is the fault of 'that President'.

Or have you forgotten your position between 2012 and 2016?

Classic LW bull**** from two reliably loony left sources. Maybe you should contact some Dem congresscritters that constrict funding for adequate holding facilities. Oh, and refuse to that any viable action to stop/discourage more illegals from entering the country.
