This thread is about bias in the news. I was watching Tucker Carlson on FOX news, last night. I rarely watch the news but Trump was going to speak, so I tuned in early. Carlson showed a clip of Nancy Pelosi on stage, giving new marching orders to the propaganda wing of the Democrat party; CNN and MSNBC. She said forget about collusion and start talking about Health Care.

Within a short time, the entire day's programing of CNN sounded like a large informercial for health care, with not a peep about Mueller and collusion even though this was nonstop for two years. Carlson then showed clips of everyone reading essentially the same script, with some freedom to improvise.

CNN lost 50% of its audience share that day. Fake news was a disappointment and the replacement discussion was very boring as quick talking used car salesmen and saleswomen oversold the nonsense like a campaign add. Even with a loss in market share, and a good news day, nothing but the marching orders were served. Bias is a real thing and the Democrat do have a propaganda wing. I think that's pretty much on the mark.

The Podesta emails showed how the Clinton campaign was tied at the hip to a number of media outlets. They shared information and wrote or edited stories for each other. I really have no doubt that the same was done, to some extent, with candidates on the GOP side. I have to assume that it's common practice in big league politics. However, that isn't the whole story.

There are LOTS of independent outlets that rely, financially, on getting their stories out through online media and they emphasize social media as their primary source of advertising. They have to identify their target audience and social media offers metrics that can nail certain demographics. The result is that you end up with stories which are written for a given audience, which target a given audience, receive a boost from that audience. These totally targeted stories, once they grow some legs, inevitably get picked up by the majors because that's where people go for confirmation of the "underground" stories. If the majors ignored the stories they'd likely lose viewers because they'd no longer be seen as "relevant" by all the people picking up their primary news feed through social media.

Bottom line, people often end up in a news "bubble". Sometimes it's a bubble of their own making as they carefully select the type of stories they want to believe and the writes they have come to trust. Sometimes its a bubble that's pushed in their direction as their peer group leans one direction or another. Sometimes it's really difficult for people to even know that they're in a bubble.

We already knew that but it's still good to see others notice it too. And then folks on sites like this one fall in line ... as you'll no doubt see by the responses you get.

You saw stuff on Tucker's non-news, hyper-partisan show, then came here to report it? Irony.

You know that's not News right? You know he's a partisan hack right? Whats' with the furrowed brow, so faux-angry.

If Trump talks about X, that is also reported on CNN and MSNBC. You do understand how reality works? They talk about XYZ, it's reported on.
Pelosi talks about focus for the Democratic party, it's reported. You understand why, surely?

Fake news is from Fox's shows like Hannity and Tucker, and others like Alex Jones, Beck, Rush, etc. It's partisan propoganda, often angry and hyped-up.
To fight back, right wing media often just accuses the other side of the same. So if Fox's crap shows do it 99% of the time, and other networks do it 10% of the time, they don't see nuance, they simply say "both are fake news".

In effect, this immunizes FOx's viewership from every thinking Fox is fake news. Because hte other side is fake = what I watch isn't fake, makes sense in some percentage of the brains in our population.
