There aren't enough partisans on either side to decide a Presidential election. There is a much larger swathe of independents and moderates than the current media culture would lead you to believe.

The double standard here is pretty odd as well. I would respect Trump supporters who could also receive the same level of critique Trump used against his opponents; at least that would show some consistency. Personally I think political discourse has gone to the crapper and is rolling in it, but it's strange to see people whinge about receiving the same level of treatment their candidate dished out. It's as if they expect everyone to like their choice, despite them being equally vocal about the previous president. That a fair amount of entertainers are liberals doesn't seemed to have fired up a counter from conservative comedians and entertainers. I wonder why?

I don't know where you've been, but political figures have been a topic for late night humor for eons. Presidents have also been a target and as far as I know they've all dealt with it fine. Until now. I saw the clip and found it funny . I can only imagine the horror had Colbert said he doesn't believe the report and left it on the list. :lol:

And though I probably wouldn't agree with their political leanings, they both are my heroes. Comedy should be funny for all, and the overt partisanship shown by today's "comics" should be reserved for private engagements. Yes that must be it. Up until mid point last year I considered myself "trump base" (but not the we buy everything sector) because I believed in him and gave him my vote. I've laughed at late night including SNL for years. Admittedly I never much cared for Leno but he's more than entitled to his opinion as are you.

But regardless you told Lurch you'd already let it go by changing the channel, so I guess there won't be further comments? :lol:

If Colbert wants to cater to a specific audience, that is 100% his choice. He's responsible for the ratings of the show, and if they are insufficient, that's the risk he is taking.

It should also be obvious that political comedy has a long tradition. Should George Carlin have told knock-knock jokes? Should Lenny Bruce have done a ventriloquist act? Should Doctor Strangelove have been canceled, because war hawks didn't like it?

Who decides what it means for comedy to be "funny for all?" You? Hard pass.

Funny thing about freedom, sometimes it means people will do things that you don't approve of. That includes late night comics. Go figure.

Im all for division. I'd brand Trump supporters if I could, so we could easily spot and shame them in public.

I have no interest in ever coming to terms.

I have an interest in shaming them til they never come out from under their rocks and bother decent folk ever again.

Trump supporters have made me believe that all people should not be equal. Some should floated out to sea on an iceberg.

They also make me believe that a basic intelligence test should be given before being allowed to vote.

No, yellow star has a historical significance with a truly oppressed people.

I'm thinking more along the lines of tattooing assholes on every single ones forhead. Good thing is they are not a homogeneous group, and political ideology isn't hereditary. So it will only be people who really deserve the oppression, being oppressed.
