NYT Publishishes Fantasy About Trump Being Assassinated

I missed this yesterday but the NY Times asked five best-selling thriller authors to write fictional endings to the Trump-Russia story (h/t @UrbanAchievr). Only one of them could be described as neutral or positive toward the president and most involve his impeachment. But one of the stories is actually assassination p*rn. Here’s a sample of “How it ends” by Zoë Sharp:

The Russian landed at Dulles after 48 hours of traveling. Of necessity, he came from Moscow by a circuitous route. A long way with a very specific task. There would be no return flight…

Around 11 p.m., his contact arrived. The man had been in deep cover for decades. In his briefcase was a bottle of Stolichnaya and a 9-millimeter Makarov semiautomatic pistol…

The Russian waited until they were a few steps past before he drew the gun. He sighted on the center of the president’s back, and squeezed the trigger.

The Makarov misfired.

The Secret Service agent at the president’s shoulder heard the click, spun into a crouch. He registered the scene instantly, drawing his own weapon with razor-edge reflexes.

The Russian tasted failure. He closed his eyes and waited to pay the cost.

It did not come.

He opened his eyes. The Secret Service agent stood before him, presenting his Glock, butt first.

“Here,” the agent said politely. “Use mine. …”

So the O’Henry twist here is that the Secret Service wants the president dead too and offers the Russian agent his gun. That’s just lovely.

They just can't get over losing an election.

And yet they act like they have no idea why they are so disliked and distrusted, and considered a joke by anyone with a brain in their heads.

Let's all guess what would happen if it were about Obama and it was released onto a small time news site, during his time in the seat.

Can you just imagine the screeching and howling?
 
For years, we've been referring to the liberal media incorrectly. "Media" and "news", even with qualifiers such as "liberal" or "fake", is simply too generous. The press in Nazi Germany promoted a political ideology, as does today's leftist press. We tend to refer to the Nazi press as a propaganda machine, and it seems that today's American "mainstream media" pretty much serves the same function.

Once news stops promoting one political party over another, it can be called news again. Otherwise it's propaganda.
 
I would think the Secret Service should be deeply offended by that.
 
Anyway, I find this paragraph from the HotAir piece raises an excellent point:

The timing is also a bit awkward. Today we have some nut sending pipe bombs to several prominent Democrats. After weeks of winking at mobs and angry confrontations, the left is suddenly very concerned about civility and toning down the rhetoric. Would the Times still publish this story after today?

The "I wish someone would kill that SOB" crowd, would be horrified to have such a murder take place in front of them. No, they want it "Kennedy style" - distant and on TV, head shot, a bloody wife, videos, witnesses, a dead perp, and mysterious suspects that seem to conform to their political view of why he had to die.

The tragedy here is the press has lost it's good judgement as to what to print an what not to print. "Just say'in" is not a defense when we have as much violence percolating in the parties today.

Those who can't wait until 2020 "to get rid of that SOB", have no right to exist in this country except behind bars, and the writer of this article should get more publicity than he ever dreamed of. These writers are way too anonymous.

Writers like this are like people in the grocery store who fart next to you and leave you with the smell.
 
There are far too many in this country who fail to separate fantasy and reality.

Do you know how many political figures have been assassinated and killed in fictional stories? I'm guessing only this one hurt your little snowflake feeling since it involved Dear Leader and he should be above such things.

Look, I liked Obama. I didn't think he was the best leader of the USA for the time, but he was eloquent and intelligent. But he was also treated like a gawd by most.
Trump has accomplished a few things Obama could never have. And for his efforts, he's shat upon daily. So ya...of course the comparison.

You don't KNOW the SS is already looking into this...do you?

In books? probably a few. Published in one of the largest Newspapers/media orgs in the country? None until now. There's quite a difference between someone writing and publishing a book, and someone publishing an assassination fantasy in the Grey Lady, hun.
