. . . in order to widen who's in the "alt-right" -- "white nationalists" -- as much as possible.

https://www.nytimes.com/2018/08/13/us/charlottesville-unite-the-right-white-supremacists.html

A lot of the article is reasonable, but then we get to this paragraph:

But some experts on white nationalism say the movement’s political agenda remains disconcertingly widespread. And some policy issues the far right has promoted, including immigration restrictions, ending affirmative action and instituting trade protections, have been embraced by mainstream right-wing politicians and pundits.

Making it seem like those things originated with "white nationalists," when they've been mainstream positions in American politics (on both the Left and the Right) at least for decades, if not all the way back to the founding.

For example, even according to these poll threads and the posts therein, here at DP:

https://www.debatepolitics.com/polls/321828-immigration-poll.html

https://www.debatepolitics.com/polls/324194-should-there-laws-regulate-immigration.html

Pretty much no one is for open borders, thus just about everyone is for "immigration restrictions" of some kind or another.

Tariffs and "trade protections" go back all the way to the origins of the country, and it's something that's done by just about every country. The idea did not originate with "white nationalists."

Ending Affirmative Action has been in conservative thought since AA began decades ago, because it's considered -- and on its face IS -- racially discriminatory, and at least for a while, you found that position on the Left, too.

But the NYT presents all of these things as something which bubbled up from white nationalism -- just recently -- and was subsequently adopted by the mainstream Right, in order to make it seem that white nationalist thought has found mainstream footing among the Right. But that just isn't so, and it's shoddy to imply it is.

Much of the media has decided that it is their responsibility to create, promote and expand a propaganda campaign which advocates for political globalism and cultural Marxism. To that end, they seek to identify concepts rooted in individualism and capitalism as "oppressive" and even "dangerous". The idea is, as always, to paint a portion of the population as an enemy of the people. In this way they can rally their supporters and justify whatever atrocities they feel are necessary to "protect" the people from the scourge of individual liberty. We have seen this tactic time and again through history and it always precedes some kind of "cleansing" of society. The coming years will be interesting ones.

Can you be specific about what kind of atrocities the liberals are going to inflict and who will be "cleansed" and how?

The most common atrocities have involved forced "reeducation" and imprisonment for political crimes. In general, the "undesirables" have been given a choice to comply with the prevailing ideology or be removed from society in some way or other. The overarching premise is that forced compliance with the state political ideology is necessary to maintain the "freedom" of the population.

It must test well with their target audience. Today's news media is nothing more than an info commercial. It should be mandated that they are required to post the little disclaimer that says none of their statements have been verified by unbiased sources and doing your own research is recommended for best results, just like the diet pill disclaimers tell you that their claims have not been evaluated by the FDA and for best results diet and exercise are recommended.

News media is nothing more than modern day snake oil salesmen.

If you're thinking that's a possibility here, you've been watching too much Alex Jones.
