I'd argue the whole industry has slipped in demeanor over the years, and that CNN is still one of the better and more factual.

I'd argue CNN's longtime mainstream brand of news is dying. Presenting live coverage and objectively balanced news, does not seem to be desired by today's hyper-political hyper-partisan cable news crowd.

I've occasionally lamented I'd like to see the return of Walter Cronkite, the "most trusted man in America". But I realize I'm kidding myself. He'd never make it today. He'd never draw like Hannity or O'Reilley.

We must remember Trump is a self-centered narcissist, a Caucasion born with a silver spoon in his mouth, and the recipient of all the privilege and exception that entails. He wealth allows him to operate quasi-above-the-law, and can silence those he crosses or takes advantage of with legal suits and NDAs trapping the wronged into silence. This is all he's known his entire life. He's never lived in normal society, with normal societal rules and bounds.

I've seen this affliction among some high net worth trust-fund recipients, though not necessarily to this degree.

I suspect this is at least partly due to the press itself becoming politically fragmented, like much of our society.

Link to an example of Obama refusing to answer questions given by FOX news personnel. This is not normal behavior and I refuse to let you claim that it is.. It is something a dictator would do. The President works for all Americans not the other way around.

Without putting too fine a point on this, there was no free press in Nazi Germany.

The press in Nazi Germany was a propaganda machine the portrayed the enemies of the Reich as subhuman threats that needed to be eradicated by any and all means.

The press in the US at that time was a propaganda machine that portrayed the enemies of America as militant imperialists that needed to be eradicated by any and all means.

The press at all times is a conduit that relays the ideas and narratives of the folks who control it.

Remember the Maine!

The press is not a holy and sacred thing. It is only one more business to be guided by those seeking profit in one form or another.

Perversion of the "truth" by the press is nothing new. Churchill was asked if history would treat him well. He said that it would as he intended to write it.

Hitler, FDR, Churchill and Stalin all used the press to accomplish their goals. Democracy, Monarchy, Nazism and Communism all have employed, do employ and will employ this tool to accomplish their goals.

If you think that the press ever was or is an impartial arbiter of truth, you are missing the real goals of the "the free press" that you seem to hold in such high esteem.

Unquestioning trust in anything that is not your mother is probably not going to serve you well.

Where was the outrage when Obama refused to answer some media questions?

But when we had "92 year old mexican man beaten with brick by..... Racist" and it turns out it was a black woman.... Why isnt it "92 year old mexican man beaten by brick by black woman"

EVERY SINGLE PERSON i talked to in real life assumed it was a white person that beat him with a brick because the news conveniently left the race out on purpose because a black person did it.

So obviously news CAN have some sorta fake agenda or flavor they wanna push.

Let me know when its starts using special forces against news agents and then ill be worried.

Obviously Trump and The News both have agendas!

You seem to have backed away from the point I was addressing.

What are the parallels you are referencing?

Trump is deregulating as much as he can and thereby decentralizing power away from Washington.

This was not and is not the practice of a dictator.

The establishment folks on both sides of the aisle work tirelessly to centralize power, expand regulation and increase taxes and government control of our lives and economy.

If anything, Trump is the anti-Hitler.

Presidents who work to increase regulation and tax rates are the Hitler clones. Can we think of any recent presidents that fit this mold?

Well im pretty sure Hitler deregulated tons of stuff for corporations back in the day. Just not common people. Big corporations LOVED nazi-germany.

Ultimate control and day to day direction pretty much eliminates the need for regulation.

Hi Chomsky - can't speak to comparisons, since I don't watch any other American networks, although I used to watch Wallace on FOX on Sunday mornings since I considered him to be truly "fair and balanced", but I don't even watch that anymore since the Trump election - everything being Trump-centric is really offputting, at least for me. Goes along with the fact I'm seldom on this site much anymore since the Trump election, for the same reasons.
