The fall of newspapers has been predicted for a long time, a generation. The prediction is not outrageous, presuming online aside. Unlikely, I suppose. Mere inertia of current subscribers keeps paper going until they get pads or die.

Seven years? That's strangely specific.

In any case, asking a trump supporter about "principles" is an anachronism at this point. Gary Kasparov put it succinctly:

"The demagogue doesn't lead radicals, he radicalizes his supporters. With each outrage he drags them down by association until they feel they have no one else, and no one else will have them. It works."

Newspapers have been on a decline for a long while now. Not really an earth-shattering prediction.

Mr. Swampy basically wants this to happen. Q: to Swampy supporters. If Swampy wins a second term would you want him to put the WP and NYT out of business? how does that affect your conservative principles or even your BS libertarian leanings that government shouldn't interfere with business and the free market?

...
To a fake GOPer, a prediction is not interference.
If you're going to say a prediction is like interference when a President gives it, don't bother.
That'd be like claiming a President can't criticize anyone or anything. It would be ridiculous to claim that.

The NYT and the WP are NOT. Newspapers are redefining themselves for the digital age and the subscription economy. You may want to try to keep up.

Washington Post digital subscriptions soar past 1 million mark

The Washington Post still plays catch-up, but is gaining on The Times

I was going to say that very thing but I went to the substance (if you can call it that) of the post instead.

I bet the average age of a newspaper subscriber, to residence, is over 40. Give me 2:1, I'll take over 50. Could be over 60... odds to take that bet?

I love how I put out my principles and don't hide them or my stances, but when I question Dear Leader and his idiotic claims or how wanting American institutions to fail goes against his party's stated beliefs then I'm the "Fake GOPer."

He sees himself "winning," a second term and single-handedly destroying these institutions. That's why he shares those memes of himself running over CNN.

I wouldn't be too sure, plenty of college aged educated Millennials are reading the digital versions.

Trump predicts ‘New York Times’ and ‘Washington Post’ will be “out of business in 7 years”

He may be right. Print media is going the way of the 8 track.

I predict Trump will be out of business in less than 7 years, the business of being president anyway.

60+ would be my guess.

There's a massive difference between predicting their demise, and putting them out of business.

I don't think so.

Your small market local newspapers? That's another matter.

You're not?
Who were the GOP candidates you voted for President and what were his positions that you liked so much? Not his personality ... his positions.

I predict Trump will be out of business before that ever happens.

I liked John Kasich, Ted Cruz, and Evan MicMillan all for various reasons, some of which did include their personality. I don't like anything about Mr. Swampy.

Evasion noted. I asked which GOPers you voted for President and which policies appealed to you in your decision. Easy question.

Not so easy. It means an entire narrative has to be made from whole cloth.

Highly doubtful.

I wouldn't be shocked to see the Newspaper industry in it's death throes in 7 years in a general sense, but papers like the Washington Post and the New York Times would be the last to truly suffer under it.

We're still probably a good 15+ years before the essential demise of the Newspaper, and likely 25 before it's completely dead. There's too many people of generations that grew up with it alive for it to truly be gone anytime soon.
