Fox News is Attacking Canada

Trudeau basically said he will issue retaliatory tariffs, as everyone in the world expected.

So explain how Trump is ‘betrayed’ by this.

Those tariffs have existed for years if not decades. You only noticed them last week. Hell - Trump probably only knew about them last week.

We are 'raping' Canada on tobacco tariffs - we charge 350%.... but thats been in place for a long, long time too.

The existing trade and tariffs have been hammered out with NAFTA and other trade deals. The new intro here is the steel and aluminium tariffs under the absurd rationale of 'national security'.

This issue isnt about dairy tariffs. Its about new steel and aluminium tariffs.

Ah, so "fair trade" is everyone has to follow the rules, except for the US who can break them a whim? How is that even remotely fair? No country would agree to this.

Seems like you just want the US to be bully and you should never give in to a bully, he just ask for more next time. You promoting a one sided deal, most countries would rather deal with tariffs then a sign a deal that one sided and Americans will lose jobs in the process.

If I may, that sounds like more of a pretext for protectionism than an actual justification. After all, if the Canadian government genuinely believes that United States milk products are poisonous, why allow it to be imported at all? Wouldn't the more responsible thing to do would be to disallow its import entirely unless and until the product complies with Canadian food standards? Why would any responsible government continue allowing Canadian consumers to be poisoned by a foreign product? Simply to raise tax revenue for import duties? That is the height of irresponsibility.

As I said in another thread, if the United States' Food and Drug Administration was given clear and convincing evidence that Canadian maple syrup companies let their syrup become tainted with some toxic or carcinogenic chemical, I would imagine the U.S. government would ban the import until the mess was sorted out rather than slap a giant import tax on it. Otherwise, it appears more like a pretext to protect Vermont Maple syrup manufacturers than an actual concern for public safety.
