Fox News being sued

The part they're claiming was a lie -- that the investigator had evidence that Rich was in contact with Wikileaks -- will probably be passed off as just a misquote.

It was Julian Assange who implied that Seth Rich was one of the contributors to Wikileaks and that his sources feel as though Rich might have been killed for that.

Knowing that -- the assertion by FOX isn't actually a lie, because there is a source that is making that connection -- so it's probably going to be put down to just a misquote.

If this is upsetting to Rich's parents, they could always try suing Assange, I suppose, but that's where the assertion actually came from so the assertion, itself, isn't a lie.

Here's what Assange had to say if you're interested.

So if having a "source" is all that is required to not be a lie than Trump calling the media Fake News and liars is also false on Trump's part since they are reporting on a source each time. You just defeated all of Trump's media complaint's in one post, thank you. :lamo

Have you even read the CNN article?

It's apparent that you haven't because the parents' complaint focuses on there being no evidence that their son was in contact with Wikileaks.

Now, we see Julian Assange allude to the fact that Rich was, indeed, a source of DNC emails to Wikileaks.

You do understand that a comment such as that by Assange is likely to be given a lot of weight, not only to the idea that Rich was involved, and perhaps killed for his involvement, but also that FOX didn't create the narrative.

As I said -- this suit will likely be dismissed.

You haven't proven anything I said incorrect. And no, I wouldn't take Assange's word for anything given his clear bias against Clinton and inability to verify said source as was the case here for Seth.

Fact is Fox News put all their eggs in the basket on Assange and lost because he was lying. Hope their lawsuit goes through and they win.

And again, trump is lying then when he said the media lies about him because they are ALSO reporting on sources. So thank you for confirming that Trump is a liar as well as if we didn't already know he was.

Except, of course, this is not merely a misleading story. This is exploiting a person's death , making a false narrative/conspiracy theory up for political purposes.

Making fox just a hairline's difference away from Infowars.

Oh, come on now, you know you guys would be having a little party if this were CNN or ABC...and if it were possible to bring a similar case against CNN or ABC, do you not think it would have been now if they could?

Given the lack of journalistic integrity in your country at the moment, in any and every direction at different points along the way, anything that drives accountability is a good thing.

'You guys'? I dislike all media equally

It's one thing to report a story incorrectly. That happens.
Fox ran it into the ground. Rinsed it, embellished it some more and ran it over and over

But if you're suggesting that's what Fix did was a simple midtake, then don't expect to ever be taken seriously.

Not suggesting that at all.

Difference is this is not an 'anonymous' source. :lamo

We have to be honest and admit that they ALL have bias. That would be a good starting point.
Most news has turned into sensationalized gossip, few exceptions noted. They are out for ratings and they cater to what they thing their listeners want to hear. So let us not single out one over the other.

This isn't just gossip. It's a conspiracy theory unsupported by facts. It's not news or gossip.

Who determines what is a conspiracy vs gossip?

That video was very unconvincing and only helps prove Assange to be a liar.

There is absolutely no evidence that Rich was in contact with Assange. None.

Assange's comment is pretty good evidence, actually, since he IS Wikileaks. Can't get any closer to the source than Assange, after all.

But, that's not my point. My point is that the story FOX ran was already "out there," having come from Assange himself, so FOX didn't create the narrative.

Fox might not have created the lie...but they sure ran with it repeatedly until the lie was embedded in their audiences brains.

Or, Assange could be telling the truth, which would mean FOX got the story right, but the source wrong. One good thing that will come of this lawsuit is that it will likely result in a deeper investigation into Rich's death. He was IT, so he had access to the servers, and someone may just go poking around in those.

Fox News has always had an agenda but it has gotten worse in the last few years. IMO, they are moving from "legitimate" news service and closer to Brietbart, Daily KOS and other fringe news services. What they did to the Rich family is disgusting and I hope they have they lose big time.

Family of slain Democratic staffer Seth Rich sues Fox News - Mar. 14, 2018

I think it is great that Fox news gets sued for this, especially the main culprit, Sean Hannity who did not want to stop paying attention to this baseless BS story that kept hurting the family of this poor crime victim.

The same goes for the lawsuit that was filed against mr. conspiracy himself, the great dumb moron that is Alex Jones and his bull crap factory of infowars. The nice thing is that the victim in this defamation case has already stated that he will not take a deal of any amount of money, he wants Alex Jones to be found guilty.

If it was Asange that was lying and not Fox, why shouldnt Assange be sued and not Fox?

My guess is that the case will be dismissed. I feel badly for the parents, but a high-profile death is going to be cause for media speculation.

My guess is that Fox will settle with the family and give them the payday they're looking for.
This is going nowhere, first amendment and all that.
They can't prove malice. Hannity stopped his reporting because they asked him to. It was a really big story line for his show, but he just dropped in order to respect their wishes.

What evidence do you have that the DNC or Clintons are involved?

The murder just never made sense. That's not proof, of course, but I do wonder why Donna Brazile feared for her life after Seth was murdered.
Muggings happen in D.C. White guys get hurt or killed by muggers who take their phone, money, watch, etc.
White guys generally don't get shot in the back for absolutely nothing.

It doesn't pass the sniff test and I think Seth was targeted.
I don't think it'll ever be proven.
