I foresee this becoming a larger issue in the next few weeks. I've already seen female journalists in the media complaining about equal pay. This will only be the beginning:

The BBC's China editor, Carrie Gracie, a 30-year veteran of the network, has abruptly resigned her job in the Beijing bureau, accusing the network of promulgating a gender pay gap.

Gracie, who is fluent in Mandarin, said she stepped down as editor in China last week but would remain with the BBC, returning to her former post in the television newsroom in London "where I expect to be paid equally," she wrote in an open letter published in her blog.

BBC responds:
"A significant number of organisations have now published their gender pay figures showing that we are performing considerably better than many and are well below the national average.

Although I do think Gracie is being a little unhinged here. Trying to start a conversation whereas she may not be the best mouthpiece considering her pay.

I total support the principle of equal pay and I know there is discrimination against women in this, conscious and subconscious, but I think there is a difficulty in assessing “equal work”. For example, I don’t think we can automatically say the Middle East Editor is doing the same job as the Europe Editor. I also find it telling that she says it’s such a clear cut breech of the law yet didn’t go to an employment tribunal, instead using the court of public opinion and that she’s content to continue working for the organisation.

Usually if you cause a big commotion, it's hard to find a job elsewhere
