However, the bill also has some serious flaws, the worst of which is that it adopts the chained consumer price index, or chained CPI, which Paul described as “the most insidious tax.” He noted that chained CPI increases the inflation tax, which hurts Americans because instead of taxing real wages, it taxes “the illusionary gains in income caused by inflation,” and the government then uses chained CPI “to adjust tax brackets pushes individuals into higher tax brackets over time.”

As The Free Thought Project has reported, in addition to the controversy over the content included in the tax bill, there have also been questions about why Congress wanted to pass it so quickly. Earlier this month, members of the Senate reported that they received copies of the massive bill, just hours before they were expected to vote on it, and some of the pages included illegible hand-scribbled amendments in the margins.

For the record, I didn't know where to put this. So please don't give me a warning or ban me over this.

Anyway, I thought that this would prove for an interesting discussion.

Interesting comments from the former Congressman. Thanks for posting this! I liked him very much. I think he had some great ideas. Some wacky ones too, but he's a very smart man. I agree with much of what he says here.

Probably General Political Discussion would have been a better venue for this since it's not media bias, but the mods won't ban you for this. They may just move the thread.

These Trumpy's will fall off the cliff before they get it. Clownservatives Rule.

I imagine one of the mods will be moving this to the Economics subforum in a bit. You could send a private message to one of them to try & speed the process along.

Also, 49 posts in five+ years? That's a fitting username you got there!

The Media keeps hammering how the tax breaks are going to be so good for business and playing down the downstream impact of payback and its affect on lower income, Middle class taxpayers. This bill will bite Repubs on the ass for the forseeable future and they have only themselves to blame. Now if the electorate can be offered some unrented politicians in elections, perhaps we can prevent facism/corporatism in the USA. The price of Corporatism is the same as the price of politicians. We're screwed.

I don't believe so. More and more people are getting fed up with the system. I read not too long ago that three fourths of millennials want a third party.

“Inflation tax” refers to holders of cash who lose value due to inflation. Ron’s off his meds again.

Economics does not work in a vacuum or one thing at a time. It is composed of many moveing parts with many out comes .

I looked at the sight. It looks like this might belong in the "Conspiracy Theory" part of the forum.
I think that should be done by a case by case basis and only if what's being discussed is an actual conspiracy theory. This isn't a conspiracy theory; this is Ron Paul's take on the recent bill.

That was a click bait link which is crap.
Nothing new there - tax cut = reduced revenue = increased deficit.
Not that must pro Trump supporters here can comprehend that logic.

There are many reasons for the government to wish to make inflation appear to be lower than it is - this seems to be another one.

Well his son was sure willing to support it especially after it repealed the Obamacare mandate. As Rand Paul stated and several others he didn't see it as a perfect bill but thought it was the very best they could get passed in Congress and the American people would greatly benefit from it. And he is correct. What this bill does for middle class families to lift their tax burden is most significant than anything that has come down the pike in a very long time, if ever. Yes families raising the next generation. And all you naysayers just sit back and watch the economy explode with growth.

The anti-Trumpers who have contributed to this page many in the past saw Ron Paul as a loon but because now his message to the 4% who still listen to him is nothing but doom and gloom the anti-Trumpers on DP are now treating him as the great swami. By March I reckon the NeverTrumpers will be scraping egg off their faces.

I am not surprised that a CS site has an article about what Ron Paul thinks.
