Can Trump just declare anything he wants to be fake news and will his supporters believe it? If so, do Trump supporters create an environment of zero accountability for him?

Yes. That's how it is.

(Sigh) No.

I am a Trump "supporter," since I voted for him and do support most of his stated campaign policy goals. But not all.

However, I don't take all the allegations of anti-Trump "reports" (read opinion and propaganda rather than simple news reporting) at face value.

I do my own fact-checking.

I also don't agree with his penchant to tweet before he thinks...i.e. I also wish he would just save his comments for public speeches and filtered through his Public Affairs section.

Still, I also recognize tweeting is his way of speaking to and judging reactions from his base, and for his "base" to feel connected to the person they elected.

I also realize much of the things some people consider lies are typical "puffing" exaggeration to sell himself and his actions to the public.

Still, I have no problem recognizing when he does or says things I don't agree with.

And exactly when have you ever listened to criticism of him without dismissing it as fake?

Did you miss both the "STILL TYPING" along with the request in my tagline (which has been there since I joined) to wait until I was finished? :doh

I also have the same question as rocket.

I also have the same question as rocket.

Then you have changed the goal posts from the OP which is titled: "Can Trump just declare anything he wants to be fake news and will his supporters believe it?"

I address issues which I agree are "fake news" reports, and explain why in any such post.

I have no need to address issues which aren't "fake news," including personal opinions critical of his actions unless I see an issue I factually agree or disagree with.

For example, I disagree with his tweeting so much and have pointed that out in a few posts.

I also disagree with the FCC stance on net neutrality, and argued why I'd prefer that be taken out of the hands of the FCC (i.e. Executive Branch discretion) by Congress amending the law.

I could list more, but in truth I am not answerable to either of you. Especially in an attempted red herring derailment.

Suffice it to say, I choose not to join those incessant trolling threads which start out as an echo-chamber of Anti-Trump sentiments, following by a gang assault of ad hominin's towards anyone foolish enough to enter in dispute.

It would certainly be easier, if the media hadn't so blatantly given cause to distrust.

If I may butt in here, I know Trumps faults but I excuse them because he does what he promised to do. Illegal immigration is slowing, citizens are getting back to work, and the economy is improving.

The left just cannot come to terms with the idea that an outsider, a businessman no less, can work the rigged system and become president. And what does he get for it? Constant criticism, and lies made up when nothing else derogatory is readily available.

Why? Trump is blamed because the democrats chose to run an entitled criminal and an over the hill socialist for president, and for that, the MSM hates Trump.

What a depraved party the “Party of the Workingman” has become!

LMAO!!

CNN has 7 false or misleading stories in a year but the question is can Trump call anything he wants fake news?

No.

Just the **** that's fake...

Good lord.....

You would be wrong......again. The left does not like Trump because a BAD businessman/reality tv star is the worst president ever. Bad tax bill. A bigot and a liar. How many women have accused him of sexual assault? Who is on tape laughing about ***** grabbing?? ...........and don't forget Russia. I don't give a rat's ass who is president as long as it's a free and fair election.
As far sick and rigged as he says?? Who's on the inside now??

A "red herring derailment" which was completely on the topic of the thread? I don't think you know the meanings of words.

Such verbal fellation of Trump...I gotta hand it to you, I didn't think you were capable of it.

Can Trump just declare anything he wants to be fake news

Yes.

and will his supporters believe it?

Probably.

If so, do Trump supporters create an environment of zero accountability for him?

No.

Whether Trump supporters give him "zero accountability" or not has nothing to do with whether claims that the Media pushes floods of fake news, spin, innuendo, outright lies...or even stuff that's truthful. His supporters WILL look at that flood and determine it's fakeness, truthfulness, believability, etc. Actually, EVERYONE...Trump supporter or not...should be doing that instead of blindly believing everything the Media pushes.

But your question can also be turned around and asked of the Media and the people who believe what THEY say without question: Do those people create an environment of assigning accountability to Trump that he doesn't deserve?

Precisely. Trump directs his supporters to the "Trump Truth"....

@DonaldTrump, Breitbart, Fox News, Sean Hannity, etc.

But Trump is the President of the US, not some guy, if his supporters take everything he says at face value and decide every time he says something is fake news, without doing any research of their own, is correct, they have given away their freedom to him. If Trump does make a real big mistake and declares it fake news and supporters just buy it, then the US will suffer a huge decline and they would have Trump permission to make mistakes and never be held accountable, thus he would have no reason to change of course if one of his ideas doesn't work out.

It seems like this "fake news" stuff means he never has learn from a mistake, he can mistake, call the consequences "fake news" and then make it again and again, his supporters put him in a position where he never has to learn anything and really that is a dangerous place to put the most powerful man in the world. That's a huge gamble, unless you think Trump is perfect, he will make a mistake, you just hope his mistakes will not devastating.

Answer: yes.

This is fun! Give me another!

If Trump had made 7 false or misleading statements in a year he would be considered the most honest President that ever lived.

Wow...you got it bad...

"they have given away their freedom"!!

"If Trump does make a real big mistake..."!!

"then the US will suffer a huge decline..."!!

The hyperbole here is rampant and noxious.

Look...if Trump makes a "big mistake", then he'll deal with it. This stuff he's calling fake news is just that...fake news. Furthermore, we've seen lots of Presidents make lots of mistakes. The world didn't end. It won't end if Trump makes a mistake.

Amongst the core supporters (I'd guess roughly 15% of voters), yeah, there's zero credulity. They want to be told what is and isn't true, and they want to submit themselves to a "great leader" figure. That's the core of an authoritarian mindset. They feel threatened, and their fear and blind rage have basically turned them into wrecking balls that won't stop wrecking until they're sure they've destroyed "the enemy." They don't seem to agree what the enemy is (largely the "globalists" and the decedent rich liberals, brown immigrants, blacks, women, gays, trans, and "communist liberals" that support them), but it doesn't seem to matter since Trump really only sold himself as a wrecking ball. And they'll keep on swinging him around until they've destroyed all of America, if we let them.

I did not say that would happen, I said could happen, maybe your right, he will do a fine a job and everything will be great, but I have my doubts.

If you don't think a President can make a big mistake that cause real damage, let's examine one mistake a President made, that Trump thinks is a mistake, the Iraq War. Bush the US would find WMDs, Cheney said fighting would end in 6 months and that Iraq would be a functional democracy in short order, none of that happened and Bush brushed off any criticism as "liberal bias" and guys like Sean Hannity said it was the patriotic duty to support the President in a time of war, so a lot of people gave him a pass. So a lot of Americans died in that war, a lot of Iraqis died in that war, a lot money was wasted on that war and it created a power vacuum that helped create ISIS and now Sean Hannity is promoting the same attitude towards Trump that promoted with Bush, so does being part of the Republican base means giving a free pass to Republican Presidents? If Trump makes a similar mistake, does he get a free pass?

Pleeeeze. I doubt you even believe what you post.

No it's absolutely true. I didn't think you were capable of stringing together words into sentences, much less semi-coherent paragraphs. Did you copy and paste from a Trump campaign website?

Don't be silly. He never makes a mistake.
