Glenn Greenwald in The Intercept:

FRIDAY WAS ONE of the most embarrassing days for the U.S. media in quite a long time. The humiliation orgy was kicked off by CNN, with MSNBC and CBS close behind, with countless pundits, commentators and operatives joining the party throughout the day. By the end of the day, it was clear that several of the nation’s largest and most influential news outlets had spread an explosive but completely false news story to millions of people, while refusing to provide any explanation of how it happened.

...It’s impossible to convey with words what a spectacularly devastating scoop CNN believed it had. ...There was just one small problem with this story: it was fundamentally false, in the most embarrassing way possible.

Yes, this is the Wikileaks email, which, as it turned out, was offered to Trump after it had already become public knowledge, unlike what CNN was reporting.

I've got to say, I found it terribly disappointing that while we got to see CNN journalists faces when they thought they had gotten Trump we didn't get to see them when the whole thing fell apart. It would have been video gold right up there with the election night agony.

Perhaps one day CNN and it's fellow travelers will realize that the gods are not on their side when it comes to Trump. In the meantime, the rest of us might be forgiven if we adopt a policy of being very skeptical of anything CNN et al. says about Trump or politics in general.

The are lying Democrat operatives until proven otherwise.

The fact that it was offered at all is just as interesting. Sure getting it before the official release would have been interesting, but that the Trump goons got access at all is... hmmm. Did the Clintons get the same access?

The left wing media rushes to get any dirt on Trump or any Republican president which makes them an easy target to plant false news reports.

I don't think its really that much of a debacle. Because this won't effect them in anyway. Because all the people hanging onto the anti-Trump nonsense are not swayed in any way because of it. Trump is still the Devil in their eyes. Most of the people who know the media is biased won't be surprised of it, This won't be the Dan Rather incident where he tried to push a lie about Bush going awol.

CNN, MSNBC and other MSM outlets are an embarrassment to the nation. These hate-Trump-firster rags aren't even bothering to fact-check, they just run with any fake news story they find.

Their desperation is shameful.

They didn't get offered access to the Wikileaks documents... Read it for yourself:

"The email was not dated September 4, as CNN claimed, but rather September 14 – which means it was sent after WikiLeaks had already published access to the DNC emails online. Thus, rather than offering some sort of special access to Trump, “Michael J. Erickson” was simply some random person from the public encouraging the Trump family to look at the publicly available DNC emails that WikiLeaks – as everyone by then already knew – had publicly promoted. In other words, the email was the exact opposite of what CNN presented it as being."

The fact that it was offered at all is just as interesting. Sure getting it before the official release would have been interesting, but that the Trump goons got access at all is... hmmm. Did the Clintons get the same access?

Of course they were. Regardless, they were buying their own fake news story.

Agreed. Their blind rush in reporting any anti-Trump story, or spinning any story into an anti-Trump one only serves to further discredit themselves,to their own damage, as well as revealing their ideological imperatives, which truly makes them political propaganda source, rather than news source.

The greatest irony of all is that this damage that they are doing to themselves is self inflicted, so they'll have no one to blame but themselves.

It seems that most of the media has zero standards when it comes to a story that will damage
the Trump administration. It's a weekly occurrence, stories that should never have been reported
are treated like breaking news then pick up by others only to find after all the headlines and puff it
is not true. The majority of the media is taking a active part to attack Trump each and everyday.

The SPJ Code of Ethics is dead in journalism today.

Read the article.

The entire world got the same access.

Were you one of the sources that CNN relied upon?

The left wing media rushes to get any dirt on Trump or any Republican president which makes them an easy target to plant false news reports.

The one great thing about these bull**** "revelations" is that it shines the light on the real bottomfeeders of the media. These poor wastes' attempts to one-up each other in Anti-Trump "shock and awe" really gives us a glimpse into the media's stupidity and con games.

Attaching a label and making it stick is basic psychology persuasion 101. Trump is a master at discrediting the MSM, and he's made it stick. "Gilbert" cartoon creator Scott Adams has a great interview on this topic.
