In Defense of Media Screw-ups

Its one thing to make an honest mistake, own up to it, and correct it.
Quite another to seek any negative coverage, accept a single source, not verify it, and then spin it even harder negative.

The first is accidental, and fairly easily forgiven. The second most certainly is not, and is not easily forgiven.

Yes I know the Clintons play dirty and Comey is untrustworthy but that is not what I was focused on but rather how deep Glenn Simpson was in peddling the Russian fake crap to the media and paying journalists. That 3 weeks before the media dropped the fake story about the Russian bank and the pinging server pushing the Russian collusion narrative Simpson was hobnobbing with journalist elites at a gathering and shortly afterward just one week before the election this story broke at Slate by a journalist who is now editor at the Atlantic. CNN covered it like it was the final nail in Trump's coffin and Hillary Clinton used it to push the Russian Collusion crap on social media where it went viral and in her final stump speeches.

I sure hope Congress can force Fusion GPS to reveal the names of the journalists he paid and that they also force the FBI to turn over whether the dossier was used as a counterintelligence document to garner a FISA warrants on the Trump campaign/transition team.

Why not? They're making an argument. The argument can be evaluated on its own terms.

You appear to think that the because a source has an ideological point of view, it's not possible for it to make a valid case. That's idiotic.

So far, it seems that journalists are remaining nameless.

But the recipients' names, the amounts, and purposes of those payments were either redacted from the documents that Fusion GPS filed to the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia or were not disclosed.

Fusion has asked the court to issue a restraining order against the House committee, which is demanding documents from the company that, among other things, explain the payments it made to reporters. Most of the documents sought are banking records.

One of the documents filed by the company this week was an affidavit from one of Fusion GPS’s co-founders, Peter Fritsch. That affidavit said, in part, “[The House Intelligence Committee] has also demanded records related to transactions between Fusion GPS and certain journalists — i.e., Request Nos. 66, 68-69, 107-112. Those requested records involve transactions that are not pertinent to work related to Russia or Donald Trump.”

The numbered “requests” correspond to a list of payments made by Fusion GPS being examined by the committee, which was also among the documents filed Tuesday, although the list was heavily redacted.

I always thought that true journalist were driven to report the news, and not to be makes of news. Seems that some can be had, for the right price. Yet more falling journalistic standards, it would seem.
