Rick Wilson: Sanders knows she’s lying, but does it anyway

GOP strategist Rick Wilson, an opponent of Donald Trump who frequently criticizes the president, said White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders knows she is lying, but continues to do it. “Her job is contingent upon her being a serial congenital liar in defense of Donald Trump’s latest outrages,” Wilson said during an appearance on CNN. “I mean, she probably has some like tiny, shriveled husk left in her soul where she realizes this is the wrong thing to do. But she does it anyway because otherwise they’ll replace her.” Wilson made the comments as part of a conversation about Trump's latest "Pocahontas" jab at Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.). Trump referred to Warren as "Pocahontas," a reference to her Cherokee heritages, during an event honoring Native American Code Talkers. After the comments, White House press secretary Sanders defended Trump, saying the term isn't a racial slur and what people find offensive is Warren "lying about her heritage to advance her career."

Wilson, who has repeatedly denounced Trump and his supporters, said during the appearance on CNN that few presidents go out and "crap on the dignity and legacy of people like these code talkers...and then send their press secretary out to answer questions in a way that isn't saying, 'Wow the president regrets what he said today, he made a mistake.'" "Instead, she goes out and she tries to bury people in an avalanche of horse sh-t everyday, because this is her job," he said, referring to Huckabee Sanders. Wilson said he understands it is Huckabee Sanders job to defend the president. But, he added, there have been few other cases where the White House press secretary has had to defend "somebody is slinging stuff that is demonstrably racially charged."

Sarah Huckabee-Sanders rose to the top while parading on the pedestal of 'Christian values'. Values that she apparently believes are applicable only when convenient.

She kicked her Christian values to the curb for a bag of silver [$180,000] salary and national notoriety.

She's doing the same thing that every press secretary has done for every single other president that has ever existed since they introduced the press secretary position.

Btw....funny how the author attempts to validate the claim of Warren's "Cherokee heritage". It's been proven false.

Generally the job of press secretary is not to lie constantly. That is an unfortunate requirement under the Trump administration.

In past administrations their job was to relay the truth, spin grey areas, and occasionally lie when in a tight spot.

If that is what you believe.

Verax is correct in the job of the press secretary. However, you are correct that the press secretary is the mouth piece of the president. Since the president lies constantly, so does this press secretary.

Her job is to support Trump.
She can't do that without lying.

She isn't very good at it though. Her statements lack truthiness and plausible deniability. She needs to polish her prevaricating ability.

She talks to the press like like are a bunch of stupid kids. She always looks and sounds agitated and annoyed.

She has also gained a lot of weight.

Somebody with her crappy attitude combined with not willing to be at transparent, doesn't deserve to continue working in DC. I hope she wrecks her reputation with this kind of behavior.

Perhaps Sarah Huckabee Sanders tells herself that she is still a good Christian and still a good Republican. However, the rest of us may have to change our definitions of those words. As for me, I remember the words of the younger and less cynical Mike Huckabee, who said: “Let us never sacrifice our principles for anybody's politics. Not now, not ever.”

Amen.....

Christian values?

I wonder how she squares the fact that she works for a man who broke at least two of the Ten Commandments. And I'm being generous saying it's only two.

I've disliked a lot of the previous press secretaries, and liked a lot of them. I was a huge Tony Snow fan, and I really like Dana Perrino. Robert Gibbs was well humored, and I liked Sean Spicer.

I think Huckabee Sanders is not a good press secretary, although she has had some good moments. I loved when she used the analogy of the men having beers to analogize the tax reform bill.

Christian values?

Yes. Her father Mike Huckabee is a minister and served as pastor for two Baptist congregations from 1980-1992.

Sarah Huckabee always claimed her father as the biggest influence in her life. She herself graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in 2004.

Somewhere along the line, Sarah Huckabee discarded her Baptist upbringing and [knowingly] embraced a vocation of lies and deception.

Uhh no, the press secretaries have absolutely NOT all acted like this. She doesn't explain what the president means to say, she just repeats it or claims that it's already clear. She employs circular logic, deflections, and even intimidations to avoid doing her job.

And Warren's heritage was never "proven false", that is not true. There was one genealogist who claimed to trace her back to some Native American, whose analysis has faced some criticism, but nothing has been PROVEN about whether Warren is or is not of Native American descent.

She made the claim. The burden of proof is on her.

There isn't a press secretary out there that doesn't parrot what the President says. If you think otherwise then perhaps you can name a few who don't?

Is she a member of the Cherokee Nation? How about the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians? The United Keetoowah Band of Cherokee? Has she applied to be a member? Has she given any proof of her statements beyond "family stories"? Gene testing? Nope. However it has been proven that the marriage certificate between her grandparents does not show that Warrens grandmother was Cherokee. As such there is no proof that Warren is Cherokee.

As such there is no proof that Warren is Cherokee.

Very few know precisely what their true ethnicity is sans DNA testing. I could be part Cherokee or Kiowa and not know it.

Most of us simply guess/postulate our heritage from [fractured] family-tree oral-history.

Then perhaps Warren should get that DNA test that was asked of her so many years ago now. Set this matter to rest once and for all. But as of right now, there is no proof that she has any Cherokee blood in her.

Why? To make you happy? JHC.

If that is what you believe.

He could retort in like kind.

His retort would be a lot more accurate because different press secretaries have had to tell differing amount of lies based on just how awful the current President is. Yours would only make sense if all Presidents were equal. They're not.

To hear an equal amount lies I'd probably have to read everything Nixon said as Watergate began to simmer. Even that might not come close because at least Nixon's lies made rational sense (if we ignore the morality of what he was doing). Trump's lies are often simply bizarre and seem compulsive. He'll lie about having tweeted something, knowing full well that someone can simply copy/paste the tweet he was lying about.

Just like her dad did.

Ah I see, you think that all those other Press Secretaries who lied because they were told to lie are not equivalent to Ms. Sanders because they were not told as many lies? Hmmm...something is off there.....

Did you get a DNA test to make sure everything your family told you about your heritage was 100% accurate?

Some people get one because they are curious, but who decides to start investigating harmless family yarns?

Anyway, that's like demanding that Obama release his birth certificate.

Why should people on the left scurry about responding to right-wing smears on demand? It's not like the right apologized after Obama released his long form. Oh no. They went "wait, what's birtherism? I don't know what birther is." or "oh, birthers, yeah that was the other guy"....

...nevermind that for years about 40% of GOPers polled said he wasn't born in America and a whopping 20% more were "not sure". But suddenly, everyone just fell silent. Nope, not me.

You know full well that if Warren did what you demand and it proved she had even more native heritage, nobody would apologize or so much as admit fault in pushing the smear. It wouldn't change a thing. They'd still hate Warren because she's "a liberal"; which is, naturally, the basis of the smear.

I could say the same thing about defending an exceptionally dishonest press secretary (R) while demanding that someone (D) get a DNA test to disprove a smear you are...let's see...you are "just asking questions about"....

Anyway, someone (among others) took care of the Warren business elsewhere:

Tossing out a conservative rag swamp is what you reduced to -- it's a big fat fail.

I followed this whole thing in 2012, as I am close to where Warren resides, and it was all adjudicated back then, and dismissed as rubbish.

Warren was recruited from Harvard. She was a highly prized and sought after professor, and did NOT check a box to gain any AA status.

"Warren graduated from the University of Houston in 1970 and got her law degree from Rutgers University in 1976. She did not seek to take advantage of affirmative action policies during her education, according documents obtained by the Associated Press and The Boston Globe.

Her first job was at Rutgers Law School in 1977. The Globe obtained a portion of Warren’s application to Rutgers, which asks if prospective students want to apply for admission under the school’s Program for Minority Group Students. Warren answered “no.”

For her employment documents at the University of Texas, Warren indicated that she was “white.” She has done cutting edge research. Harvard Law wanted to have her in because of that.

At the time she was hired at Harvard in 1995, Charles Fried was the head of the Harvard appointing committee that recommended Warren for her position. He has been quoted several times that her heritage didn’t come up during the course of her hiring. “It simply played no role in the appointments process,” he said. “It was not mentioned and I didn’t mention it to the faculty.”

[h=3]FACT CHECK: Elizabeth Warren, Wealthy Native American?[/h]https://www.snopes.com/politics/politicians/warren.asp

Claim: Elizabeth Warren lives in a multi-million-dollar mansion and relied on scant Native American heritage claims to land a job at Harvard.

You're using a just taking orders defense for a job she voluntarily sought out and signed up for. Meanwhile, Warren needs to take a DNA test because non-liberals don't accept that the whole smear was debunked years ago?

That is what's "off" here.
