What would you call a story run by a world-wide cable news network, where they take a quote from someone completely out of context, in order to make that person look bad and appear not to know something that they actually did know?

I call that a fake story regardless of who it's about.

Now if you see it differently, I would love for you to describe the logic behind that... I could use a good laugh today.

With so many allowing their political beliefs to transform fact into fallacy (as we've seen demonstrated on this thread) I have to agree with you... This country needs some help before it's too late.

...
The story was published yesterday morning at 6:51 Eastern time, and CNN Money did eventually replace it with one that reflected the truth of what Trump said... Of course CNN Money displaying their lack of journalistic integrity, just switched the story out and didn't bother issuing a correction or mentioning the errors that were contained in the original story which was picked up by several media outlets.

Trump wants Japan to build more cars in the U.S. - Nov. 6, 2017

-- Correction: The original version of this article and its headline did not make clear that President Trump had praised Japanese automakers for expanding existing U.S. facilities and for making new investments in the U.S. The article and headline have been updated.

Fake News Story #2:

CNN is again at the center of BS, this time they use an edited video and a story to imply that Trump broke some kind of Japanese fish-feeding protocol, which of course was picked up once again by several media outlets. They did the same thing as they had done with the car story and replaced the video and updated the story.

Trump feeds fish, then winds up pouring entire box of food into koi pond - CNNPolitics

...The move got Trump some laughs, and a smile from Abe, who actually appeared to dump out his box of food ahead of Trump.

You really should read your links, and use actual source material rather than something called "Grabian News". CNN did not imply Trump did anything wrong, and CNN is certainly not responsible for what other people tweet.

Ummmm sorry, but yes they did.

Even the Washington Post called out CNN for their dishonesty.

As for fake story #2, CNN manipulated a video to make it appear Trump did something he didn't and there are plenty of stories floating around about that. This is what the Washington Post wrote about it:

That’s apparently what CNN was doing when it published a story Monday under the headline, “Trump feeds fish, winds up pouring entire box of food into koi pond.” How is that newsworthy? Well, it’s newsworthy if Trump acted like a boor and pounded the precious koi with an overabundance of food. Such appears to be the case if you look at the video below, which starts with a shot of Trump, alongside Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, flicking spoonfuls of food from a wooden box into the koi pond below. Then the shot narrows to Trump himself, and he empties the entire box.

Another instance of presidential boorishness abroad? As Mediaite pointed out, that’s how it played out among some media types. There’s that CNN headline, for starters, which places outsize significance on the president’s handling of the box. Jezebel headlines, “Big Stupid Baby Dumps Load Of Fish Food On Japanese Koi Pond.” The New York Daily News: “Photo of Donald Trump dumping fish food into koi pond during Japan visit draws Obama comparisons.” And more than one prominent journalist wrote tweets fixated on the fish-food box-dump.

So Trump was acting as a responsible guest, merely following the actions of Abe. The CNN story admits as much, noting that Abe “actually appeared to dump out his box of food ahead of Trump.”

In light of those facts, perhaps a new headline is in order: “Trump, Japanese PM both dump small boxes of fish food into koi pond.”

Both the headline and the photo CNN used implied exactly what their EDITED video did, that Trump just got impatient feeding the fish one spoon full at a time and dumped the entire box in the pond. CNN took the video (which was shot by the Guardian) and zoomed it in on Trump, so people didn't see that the Japanese PM dumped his box of food in the pond first, and Trump was only following his lead.

CNN didn't mention that fact in their story until the 5th paragraph and even then said the Japanese PM "appeared" to dump out his box of food ahead of Trump... like they think he did, but weren't really sure if he had or not. Take a look at the unedited video and tell me how ANYONE could doubt that the PM dumped his box in the pond, and did so before Trump did?

CNN flat out mislead the public... How else do you explain the number of stories on the internet and tweets from journalist who bought into that false narrative?

You can pretend what you like, but anyone with their eyes open can plainly see what's been going on... and before you even think it, I did not support Trump, I didn't vote for Trump, and I still think he's an embarrassment to the office... but unlike those who revel in the embarrassment, I hope for the best and refuse to participate in the Trump bashing because it only fuels more negativity toward the US.

Alt Right: Trump got impatient and dumped the whole box of fish food into the pond.

Liberals: Trump got impatient and dumped the whole box of fish food into the pond.

It does not matter. The fact still stands that Trump did become impatient and dumped the whole box of fish food into the pond. In the eyes of the Japanese and Asians in general, Trump a westerner is looked upon as a barbarian.

This is really getting ridiculous... There hasn't been a president in my lifetime that's offered the media such an abundance of legitimate things for them to criticize, yet they continue churning out fake stories to attack him with. The American News Media hasn't damaged it's credibility with this behavior, it has completely destroyed it and I for one am very saddened by this. I never thought I would see the day when partisan politics would run roughshod over journalistic integrity, but here we are.

Fake News Story #1:

CNN Money published a story yesterday titled “Trump asks Japan to build cars in the U.S. It already does.” In a speech Trump gave to Japanese auto executives, CNN took the president's words out of context to imply that he had no idea that there are Japanese auto manufacturing plants in the US and have been for several decades. The quoted Trump in the story saying:
“Try building your cars in the United States instead of shipping them over,” Trump said. “Is that possible to ask? That's not rude. Is that rude? I don't think so.”

Like Trump had no idea that those auto plants existed. Here's the transcript of what the president said, with the part that CNN Money used for their story in red:
When you want to build your auto plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. When you want to expand your plants, you will have your approvals almost immediately. And in the room, we have a couple of the great folks from two of the biggest auto companies in the world that are building new plants and doing expansions of other plants. And you know who you are, and I want to just thank you very much. I want to thank you.

<<<<snipped to accommodate character limitation>>>>

Of course CNN Money displaying their lack of journalistic integrity, just switched the story out and didn't bother issuing a correction or mentioning the errors that were contained in the original story which was picked up by several media outlets.

A few of those who ran with it were Slate, The Hill and CBS's White House reporter, Mark Knoller.

This was so blatantly false that Aaron Blake wrote a story in the Washington Post titled "Stop cherry-picking that Trump quote about Japanese cars. It’s not what you think."

Bravo!!! The U.S. media has proven time and again that it no longer functions as objective journalists and watchdogs with an ethical core of discipline. It has no shame in that it is most in the tank as shills for the Democratic Party and makes no attempt anymore to be honest, objective, thoughtful, or practicing fair play.

We need a lot more expose's as your post.

I'm telling you people: if we don't start standing up and correcting misinformation as the OP did, we won't be able to recognize this country as our America once they manage to destroy the current administration and install one like them.

While this Mutual Admiration Society is oh so adorable, let's get serious. The major cable news networks have basically resorted to clickbait. Screeching "BIAS!!!1111" every time one of them (and yes, that includes your beloved Fox News) runs some weird story that makes Trump or Obama or Clinton or whoever look bad is just a waste of time.

Cable news is empty calories. It hasn't worth a bootful of warm piss since the goddamned Gulf War. The first one.

So few have any interest in journalism anymore, either the conducting of the arts or the consuming of the arts.

America used to be better....the men were better....the women were better......the kids were better.

We are going to have to get much more interested in the truth.

This type of reporting should be criminal. It is deformation of character.

DEFAMATION. And honestly, you want to bring a defamation suit over FISH FEEDING?

With all the lies FNC told about Obama, you’d think Wingnut America wouldn’t cry “lawsuit” if someone exaggerated something about the “president.”

No going to happen. The moral and intellectual values of this nation have been decaying for decades, and I see no end to it. Too many people are just too lazy to care about the facts. They are happy to be spoon-fed the lies, and have a sense of being informed.

Just look at all the lefties championing such lies!

The fact still stands that Trump did become impatient and dumped the whole box of fish food into the pond.

Huh?

How can you possibly say that when the Japanese PM did so first, and Trump merely followed his lead? I mean seriously, saying he did so because he was impatient makes absolutely no sense at all.

I believe he said it was defamation, and should be criminal... not that someone should actually file a defamation suit against CNN.

At least that's how I read it.

If it was just cable news I wouldn't be concerned. But it is almost all the mainstream media, We no longer have a Fourth Estate or any kind of integrity or professionalism in the media dominated by for profit Democratic Party shills.

Whether the once prestigious New York TImes, Washington Post, or network news, we are getting the same poor veiled distortions and smears targeting the President and his Administration.

With all the lies FNC told about Obama, you’d think Wingnut America wouldn’t cry “lawsuit” if someone exaggerated something about the “president.”

First, FNC didn't make up NEWS stories that lied about Obama. I'm sure they made errors on occasion just as every news outlet does, but they didn't do the crap that CNN has been doing... Not by a long shot.

Second, the CNN stories didn't "exaggerate", they presented and/or manipulated those stories to lead people to false conclusions about Trump and his actions in Japan.

I realize it's difficult for you to acknowledge the truth about the mainstream news media's liberal bias, but there will come a day when you will finally realize just how damaging this bias is and will no longer be able to ignore it anymore.
