Why are Race jokes taboo?

I feel like there's maybe (just maybe) a false equivalency going on here....comparing jokes made about presidents with racists jokes would look more like this:

I'm not saying all orange gropers are bad people, there are good ones. Some save lives, a small price to pay for a clown grope or two.

Orange groppers should always save a life or two. It's splendid on a report card.

Lately, many comedians are making jokes about Trump that are funny to those who hate Trump.

These jokes are very similar to jokes of a bygone age that always used minorities or members of hated races as the punch line.

The situation was not the joke- the hated race member was the joke and the malady or mishap that befell them was seen to be deserved and that is what made the joke.

The Race based jokes involved the inability of the butts of the jokes to restrain their imagined instinctual responses or imagined deeply held desires. The humor depended on the bias and hate held by the audience and the teller to be funny.

THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE HATE-BASED JOKES INTENDED TO DEMEAN AND DIMINISH MINORITIES AND THE SAME JOKES INTENDED TO DEMEAN AND DIMINISH TRUMP.

Oh for the days of Johnny Carson when he actually could tell a joke that was funny because it was funny.

When will the illegitimate heirs to Carson's legacy figure out that the jokes they tell brand them as the shallow, prejudiced and biased, hate mongers that they claim to despise.

When a racial joke is made sparingly and light-heartedly, in can be funny.

When a racial joke is made pervasively, it can have lots of unintended consequences.

Making fun of a specific person for specific reasons has no meaningful relationship to this phenomenon.

You see no difference between targeting an individual based on their ****ty and immoral behavior, and targeting random strangers based on how much melanin they have in their skin?

I cannot help you. You are beyond reach.

What an asshole. He deserved to get fired. I'm not for all the PC stuff around, but that's just plain stupid. Who wants a stupid firefighter in their town? Not me.

C'mon man! His firing is one of the worst overractions I've ever seen.

So you can't comprehend the difference between a racist joke and one that is personal? You really need that to be explained?

The formatting of the jokes is the same.

If you remove word "Trump" from the joke, it is not longer funny to the intended audience in the vast majority of cases.

It is in this way that they are the same.

In the case of the Trump Joke or the Racist joke, the common thread is that the teller of the joke HATES the butt of the joke. Those that feel they are funny also hate the butt of the joke. Hate, not humor is the basis of the joke.

Not much different than the leader of the mob inciting the mob.

Another example of these is the intercollegiate humor regarding football teams. However, since all of these jokes can be and are turned around all the time, they're not so damning. The "hate" is a pretended attitude usually affected for the sake of the joke.

Why does (fill in the blank) University use astro turf at (fill in the blank) stadium? They're trying to stop the cheerleaders from grazing. In this case it's really, really funny to me if Iowa is the blank being filled in. Minnesota grad here.;)

Unfortunately the only reason they don't tell those jokes now is because they are worried about piercing the thin skin of todays audience.

Not to mention that comedians like late night TV host just jumped onto cracking on Trump because how easy it is. Comedy on this man just writes itself in most occasions, while the other times they try so hard you can see themselves strain physically.. if not mentally.

This PC culture is bull**** IMO.

You believe the dictionary can save you from your horribly moronic all-caps claim? It's an hysterical rationalization for the use of racial slurs. It's pathetic and the only question is what motive could there be. The only motive I can think of is using slurs of some sort and wanting to justify doing so. If you are not revealing far more about your position than you intend, you really need to learn something, anything, about the subject so you can stop yourself from screaming idiotic crap in defense of racial slurs.

I am placing racial jokes and Trump jokes on the same plane.

If you feel that is justification of Race Jokes, or if you cannot decipher plain English, that reveals a whole lot more about you than me in so many ways.

Minorities don't choose to be minorities. Being an asshole is a choice. See the difference?

Yes. From what I've seen, the A-holes are telling the jokes.

Are you saying that, in your world view, there are no Democrat a-holes?

Not a huge fan of either but I think there is a clear difference between jokes targeted at a large group based on negative stereotypes and jokes targeted at a named individual in the public domain based on what they actually say and do.

That is the point, though.

The jokes are rarely based on what Trump says and does.

They are usually based on what the joke tellers either assume or portray is being said or done.

This is primary in the similarity between the two types of jokes.

You must be pre-disposed to accept the shortcomings of the butt of the joke to appreciate the humor.

Trump, since he was elected is constantly and with relentless precision repeating the goals for helping in various ways "all Americans". What do the late night comics and Trump's enemies divine from this? That' he's a hate filled racist, sexist, homophobe.

On what action is the charge of racism based? I would contend that the actions justifying this charge are committed by his enemies in their inflammatory rhetoric to deceive and mislead the weak minded.

The difference is that people choose to vote for Trump, and if you don't like being called stupid for supporting him they can grow a brain, and stop supporting him. Black people, latino's, Muslims, women, gays..... These people really have no choice. They didn't make a decision that lead to their association with this demographic therefore there is no basis for attacking them.

If you voted for Donald Trump you made a disgustingly bad choice, and highlighting the stupidity of that choice is not only perfectly acceptable but in fact necessary to try and help you realize how dumb your choice was. All Trump supporters by definition made this terrible choice, therefore it is perfectly acceptable to judge them all negatively as a result. There is no single thing you can say to be true about all black people other than that they have the same skin color. This tells us nothing about the intelligence or character of each individual. Even if you think there is evidence to conclude that on average there are similarities amongst them that does nothing to tell us about each individual.

The common thread between all jokes of the genre is the hate of the joke teller. the hated person or group is just this week's victim. Bullies need to bully. It's their job.

The jokes themselves are only Judas Goats to the weak minded that lead the dupes to the laugh line.

Not much different than young kids laughing at dirty jokes just to be a part of the crowd. The uninitiated don't necessarily understand the joke. They do want to be a part of the crowd that does. They laugh. They're in.

In what way has Trump shown you that he is a bigot?

Orange gropers are a very challenged lot. Making fun of them is like laughing at transvestites. It just isn't fair and is certainly not polite.

I was in the States two weeks ago and saw the President many times on TV. Now here's the thing: he was not even slightly orange. If he appears so to you joG I suggest you adjust your television set; if that does not work consult an opthalmologist - OK, OK eye-doctor.

Nor, incidentally, did I hear anyone say that Mr Trump had groped them. Are you about to come forward as the first accuser.

They are simple facts, retarded but that is the source not the comedian.

Need a safe space?

Not at all.

The jokes are not manufactured by the butt of the joke.

Will Rogers told many jokes on the way to making a point. His approach was one of class and grace delivered in a common man kind of a way.

Johnny Carson did the same thing.

IF the late night comics of today were not joking in a way that was based in hate and intended to injure, they would be joking about ALL politicians.

Lord knows, there are a-holes from both parties that are desperately in need of getting laughed at.

When a racial joke is made pervasively, it can have lots of unintended consequences.

Making fun of a specific person for specific reasons has no meaningful relationship to this phenomenon.

That is the issue here.

Trump is the butt of jokes by these simple minded petty tyrants on their late night platforms for no specific reason.

They hate and have decided to target Trump with their hate. His actual beliefs, actions, words and meanings are not needed to make the jokes.

I cannot help you. You are beyond reach.

I am reachable.

I am also a critical observer of the comics on late night TV.

As you watch these pontificating preachers attacking Trump, are you ever struck by the imbalance between the attacks on Trump and the attacks on any Democrat?

Were they also attacking Obama in the same frequency and intensity?

Their attacks are based in their hate of the person, not his actions, words or policies.

Disagree? Provide the evidence that they attack ALL politicians and I'll have been "reached".

Google "Kimmel trashes Trump" and you get about a bazillion hits.

Google "Kimmel trashes Obama" and you get zip.

It's pretty obvious to me, and might become obvious to you with a little less biased review, which of us is"beyond reach".

Well, I don't see the whole PC thing as BS. There are legitimate injuries committed by the folks who deal in hate based actions and words.

The issue I have with the Trump jokes is that they would be condemned by the PC crowd if they were told about a minority.

A hate based joke and a hate based action are separated only by the weapon of choice.

The person who wields the weapon in both cases is still a hate filled attacker. Kimmel's jokes and Hodgkinson's gun are not really very different.

There is neither any Democrat, nor any other "Republican" (it is my position that Trump isn't a Republican anyway, and probably cares nothing for politics, so whether he counts towards either party's rank is merely a matter of technicality to me) who behaves as immorally and irresponsibly with such a dangerous amount of power, in my opinion. He deserves the intensity of criticism he gets, and then some.

Criticism does not have to be "equal." If someone is behaving worse than everyone else, then they deserve a greater amount of criticism than others.

Beyond that, Obama had a number of scandals in his administration which were criticized. Whether Kimmel did so, I don't know. I don't spend my time watching that kind of thing to be honest.

Does Trump get it worse? I sure hope so. No president in my lifetime of either party has been so utterly without a conscience. He should be getting it worse.

This is not a matter of whatever party Trump is pretending to belong to. It's a matter of his behavior.

Example(s)?

I provided one already. The barista one is also not bad:

Kids, unless you're name is quite specifically "Louis CK," then I don't suggest you try this at home.
