Trump Spinning PR Into Good News

Conservatives tend to find local Govt officials and leaders or anyone else for that matter who exploit natural disasters for Politcal purposes reprehensible.

It never ceases to amaze me how conservatives routinely get into a bind with their righteous beliefs but it doesn't apply when it comes to President Trump. Thanks for highlighting Conservative Hypocrisy for all to see!

Why wasnt Trump attacked after Texas ? Florida ? Im thinking it as to do with the Mayor being a major Hillary suupporter.

Trump wasn't attacked after Texas or Florida because the feds did a good job in the response to those disasters. I guess if a disaster hits people that can actually vote for him, he won't mail in the relief effort while spending his time living it up on luxury golf courses. Houston as Democratic mayor too, as do the vast majority of cities.

As to exploiting disasters for political purposes, that is laughable considering the right was absolutely enraged when Chris Christie embraced President Obama during the Sandy relief efforts. Christie?s Post-Hurricane Embrace of Obama Outrages Many in G.O.P. - The New York Times

He dedicated the trophy to them. You really can't make this **** up. What amazes me is that he actually has defenders outside of the sociopath community.

Did you catch the part in the video the group Trump was standing with raised 170 million in donations this year for charity? For the USA team to win the tournament was a big deal. The trophy was a big deal and to dedicate it to the Puerto Rican people and all victims of hurricane disaster these past weeks to those present at the ceremony was heartfelt. At least these people put their money where their mouth is when it comes to charity.

Did you miss the multiple millions daily Trump has requested in aid and the Republican Congress passed an immediate billion dollar package? That between the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico we now have military, FEMA and other federal agencies close to 14,000 on the ground working 24/7?

How about his personal donation to the victims of Harvey of 1 million.

What about his monthly paycheck from the government as president that he donates back to this country?

How about every Trump establishment where people stay, eat or play golf, on their bill it asks for donations to St Jude Hospital. You don't see Marlo Thomas or Phil Donahue out there trashing Trump.

Trump and the First Lady, Melania head to PR on Tuesday. He will be meeting with the governor who has had nothing but praise on the administration's swift efforts to assist in recovery. I really feel sorry for the Governor of PR. The place was a mess with debt and the local politicians many who are corrupt long before he took office. Prior to him the utilities had been taken over by the state and after that went into years of decay. The Puerto Rican people for years have been experiencing blackouts due to the poor condition of their system run by the government. Same with their water and sewage plants. If you live in a high rise on the sixth floor and there is a blackout and the water isn't running to your home then you have to take the stairs because there is no electricity to take the elevator to go get a bucket of water and back up the stairs just to flush a toilet. Within minutes of Maria hitting they lost total power because most of the cable is strung on rotted wood poles.

Like all Caribbean islands a big part of their revenue comes from tourists and the cruise industry. It is going to be a long time for many islands like St. Thomas, St Martin, Puerto Rico and others will be seeing cruise ships full of tourists. But the cruise ship companies have been using their ships that launch from their ports to pick up refugees and stranded tourists to get them to the states as well has dropping humanitarian aid to every port they visit.

Well after bashing PR for not doing for themselves, he hosted a golf tournament today. 7.2 billion people on this Earth, and I guarantee you that you will never find one more tone deaf than Trump.

You really can't make this **** up. If I was a conservative I think I would cut my losses with Trump. Just say well, I am a conservative, I believe in conservatism, but this an absolutely despicable human being and doesn't represent my beliefs and ideals.

Yikes. There was a brief moment a few days ago where it looked like he was going to at least try to look like he gave a ****.

Has he actually made the donation yet? In the past he has a history of committing to donating money, but never actually doing it.

His travel costs have so far exceeded every other president before him that he will spend more in one year, than any other president has in 8. So he is getting quite a deal even with him not taking a paycheck. Trump's Travel Costs Are Staggering, Yet Five Years Ago He Complained About $1 Million Annually for Biden

That is actually another one of Trump's con jobs: https://www.forbes.com/sites/danale...charity-money-into-his-business/#73e8fdcc6b4a

Everyone knows that the challenges in PR and the U.S. Virgin Islands are massive. So why commit 1/3 of the resource there that they did to Texas? I guess because PR can't vote for him. Moreover, for the first few days, Trump just mailed it in with the disaster response. It wasn't even a priority with him.

Thats nonsense and you know it. Puerto Rico has been run by corrupt and inept Politicians for decades and was over 100 billion in debt with crumbling infrastructure before the storm hit.

Even the NYT's confirmed through St. Jude that Eric Trump helped raise 16.3 million over a decade for the hospital.

Governor of Puerto Rico has stated everything he has requested for emergency commodities has been provided through FEMA and continue to be provided. FEMA has now opened 11 hubs for distribution of needed supplies, tools and machinery throughout the island. For days main thoroughfares and airports were cleared to make it possible. The governor and FEMA are coordinating with contractors to restore phone service, electricity.........only one......one mayor has been outrageously critical and it was found out that she hasn't been participating in the unified operation. But it was the mayor of San Juan that you and others latched onto because she was trashing the administration. You folks with many in the media want to turn this disaster into Trump's Katrina. Well it won't wash. So far 16 deaths have been listed due to the hurricane. That number will most likely climb some but that is nothing compared to Katrina,1,833. There are now over 14,000 federal personnel working 24/7 in PR and VI. There's still a lot to do but in 10 days the progress that has been made is quite excellent. According to the governor, 50% of grocery stores are up and operating, 300 pharmacies are up and running and 2/3 of all gas stations are receiving fuel shipments and are open for business. Housing is being provided for those who lost their homes and temporary fixes to those whose homes were damaged are being provided till they can be repaired properly. Recovery is going to take months but there is only so much FEMA can do. Its purpose is not to "fix" everything.

Well it is true that a lot of progress in a few short days is being met. But hey you were one of them on this forum that was believing every word out of the mayor's mouth in San Juan which turned out to be untrue. In fact her fellow mayors and the governor pretty much called her a liar.... a person that was not even showing up for briefings at the FEMA command center including the DOD and others so she had no idea what the heck was getting done.

But you so much believed her because she was trashing the Trump administration and that is what is music to your ears.
We have 11,900 federal personnel in PR and the AVIS.

Other reports are the reason the power and communications went out just minutes after the storm hit is because all lines are above ground on rotted telephone poles. When the state took control of the utilities they were not kept up. PR has been experiencing blackouts for sometime due the the many problems. That's what state owned anything gets you.
During the first week, there was quite a disconnect between the Trump/Government line and the media reports & video of the actual scene on the ground. And the San Juan Mayor's storyline matched the reality on the ground, not Trump's pie-in-the-sky delusion. Even Homeland Security's Elaine Duke was forced to walk back her "good news story" comment she made Stateside, when she arrived on the island and saw the state of the aid effort.

Thanks to the media, all of us could see the goods piled up on the docks, with no one bringing them into the interior. Well, except for Trump as usual claiming "fake news". But there was no hiding from it. Even he knew that. So he finally lit a fire under the effort.

But you are right, in that after the initial days and media attention, it does seem Trump and the government got the message. So good for that, I suppose.

Yet Trump seems to be continuing his delusion. He said while he was there that it was a miracle more people didn't die. He also said it was a miracle more people didn't die in Vegas. Whoever thought of that talking point?? Trump is really, really bad a turning tragic events into, "good news stories." He also needs to stop butting into national discussions if he is going to proclaim that everything is a miracle.

Yeah, there's little left to be said with this narcissistic, egotistical, man-child buffoon.

He is who he is, we're stuck with him, and he seems to be getting worse.

It is, what it is.
