Propaganda By Pic

This makes a case for "tone deaf" to be classified as a communicable disease. Pitchforks and torches, if there are any torches left after Charlottsville!

Steven Mnuchin is a window into the most corrupt White House in history

You should see a pic of a high official, the pic was clearly chosen to make the official look bad, it is on a piece that is slamming that official for his acts, which widens into a Trump Hit Piece.

Once they go so far as to run with the pic like that should everything that comes after be ignored, maybe because they have violated journalism, the norm of reporting the truth without bias?

I say yes.

It is just one more flagrant display of who/what runs our Nation. No change. It's not run by anyone in Carharts and work boots. Oligarchy!

I'm disappointed in the Elite Class, and perhaps the Little People too.

This level of bias should get condemnation.

I honestly enjoy reading your posts, but please don't pretend like Mnuchin is anything but a card carrying member of the elite class. Elite is the best word to describe a guy like Mnuchin.

How much more of the Soviet Propaganda Manual are we going to dig into before we get to "Enough"?

There is science that these kinds of manipulation efforts work, even if we dont think they do I believe....I remember one study on Soviet Propaganda not too long before the fall that showed that the propaganda was much more effective than the victims thought it was. Those in the study thought that they mostly noticed and discounted the introduced bias....it turned out in reality they did not anywhere near as well as they thought they did.

I encourage you to take this matter seriously.

Look up the "Communications" curriculum.

Propaganda is a ten billion dollar a year industry in this country, not counting those in direct employ.

Every single political message you see is crafted by a professional in these techniques.

Everybody in this country is constantly being bombarded with attempts to manipulate.

And yes. It is more potent than most people are aware of.

Wouldn't be a ten billion a year industry if it wasn't.

DID Hearst go so low?

I think there used to be some standards, even in Yellow Journalism.

Look up marijuana's original prohibition. It was about paper. Hearst papers and Kimberly-Clark invested tons of money on new pulp paper mills and timber rights just before a new method of removing fibers from hemp was developed that would have rendered their investments moot.

So they started a propaganda blitz against pot because that included hemp.

Reefer Madness was Hearst. Great example of a propaganda piece.

So yeah. Hearst went that low.

LOL! Really? They 'violated' journalism?

What an odd choice of words.

Steve Mnuchin had been a Movie Producer ... I've seen his name in many credits.
Some good ones like Mad Max: Fury Road.
And some god-awful ones like CHiPS.

Surely there's some mileage to be had by trashing that part of his bio.
Has Ryan Cooper been made aware?

Mnuchin & wife are arrogant, elitist snobs. That would be their right, but making taxpayers foot the bill for their joyrides is not.

Doesn't it just mean getting offended by something stupid or unimportant?

Being "Triggered" is a left wing thing that specifies when one is offended by the mere thought of or presence of something potentially offensive. Certain leftists on this board try to co-opt it to mean anything they don't like and infer offense on something where there is none.

This is a quote from the source you provided, "Triggering occurs when any certain something (a “trigger”) causes a negative emotional response."

How is it just a left wing thing? I see conservatives get triggered on this board all the time when someone mentions Clinton, Obama, or socialism.

The concept, the term, and the usage was exclusivley left wing. it was a left wing thing, you don't remember that?

They would litterally have workshops for those triggered by seeing a bananna peel at the foot of a tree at a black college, or when trump won, they held cuddle puppy therapy sessions.

You really dont remember all that?

The "triggered" jokes were around well before Trump. I thought it was initially used as a slam against feminists online. Either way, words evolve over time. I'm pretty sure any time some one overreacts to something stupid it is considered being triggered now.

There is a difference. guy posting a silly thread about a guys face, not "triggering", Guy truly upset over a bananna peel left near a tree at a black college, triggered.

This nothing to do with the object of the propaganda by the so-called journalists, this has to do with the so-called journalists doing sleazy propaganda, with almost no push back from the entire elite class, all of whom should know better, not least because they are doing it so poorly that even Americas Human Garbage ("Why dont you just die already!") can probably comprehend what is being done.

Ya but see they used to keep and eye out and build plausible deniability into their shenanigans, but now they are so desperate or so uncaring (who can know) that they dont bother.....this is new, this honesty about what creeps they are is new.

What is "the Elite Class"?

A politician? Well, you couldn't agree to that because now Trump is a politician. So, a politician for more than X years? Someone with Y level of education, which level is more than yours?

And who gets to define this group so apparently deserving of hatred and contempt?

Remember how making OJ look just a little darker than normal was cause for alarm all those years ago, now we have graduated to this, just openly taking shots at people they dont like.

"Nasty woman"

- Quote from a Presidential Debate in the United States of America, 2016.

But the rules are different for those we agree with, eh?

C'mon, man. It's perfectly normal to select an image that someone thinks accompanies the article.

I've also certainly seen less flattering photos of him. He's just... not photogenic.

Only if you are desperate not to read anything negative about Mnuchin or Trump.

We should note that The Week publishes articles from across the spectrum. Even a cursory glance at the main page ought to make that clear.

I say yes.

What's the "bias"?

Simply observing the facts and forming an opinion is "bias". What's important is whether there's a bias on the facts that are reported, the way those facts are described, and what relevant facts are omitted.

This is an administration that used a ****ing hurricane to sell $40 hats. I so very much wish that was an exaggeration, because the amount of money he got from that cannot possibly justify the erosion of morals necessary to do it. He used an interview about firing missiles at Syria to plug a commercial for his chocolate cake.

So what ****ing "bias"? Is it "bias" to observe facts for you?

Oh, really?

It tagged Mnuchin for wasting taxpayer dollars, by using government planes to fly him and his wife on their honeymoon and to visit Fort Knox... which just happened to be near the totality for the eclipse. His excuses were ludicrous, because (as the article notes) he didn't need a private government plane to maintain a secure connection to DC. The article used this as a launchpad to describe the petty corruption of others in the Trump administration.

If anything, the article suffers from being too thin. There's a good deal more of this petty corrosive corruption in this administration than the article mentions, including my favorite: The Kushner family used Jared's position and fast-track to Green Cards to sell investments in a condo project to wealthy Chinese. Nice.

This faux-outrage the same week the president is retweeting his golf shot hitting Hillary. Always fun to see how pathetic Trump supporters will be in any given week.
Corrupt politician? Nah, let's claim a bad but appropriate picture of the corrupt official means we should just ignore everything factual they present. Yeah, that sounds like a REALLY ****ING GOOD PLAN!

Probably makes more sense when you're high, no doubt.
