Amazon caught deleting negative reviews of Hillary's book, but not good reviews!

PoS, an Author who sells on Amazon, said not a week ago right here on DP that the Amazon reviews are cooked...he should know.

Well, I work for a major publisher, so I should know. I am not saying that there are not fake reviews on Amazon. Obviously there are. However, they do try to block the most obvious ones (like reviewing a book you never purchased).

Hillary loses the election, and refuses to take any responsibility for her loss, and as of now, she has literally come up with 42 different 'reasons' why she lost, none of which are her fault. So she writes her new book to explain to us "what happened"(the name of her book). After it went on sale at amazon, they began receiving reviews. They were mostly negative, but also a lot of glowing 5 star reviews. Her book had a 2 to 2.5 star review.

But then, suddenly, ALL of the 1 star reviews mysteriously disappeared! Many media outlets reported on this phenomenon, so finally amazon admitted to their shady behavior of arbitrarily removing ALL negative reviews, but leaving ALL 5 star reviews! Only, as is common when every other biased entity is busted, they denied bias, and claimed that ALL negative reviews were merely attempts at trolling, so to provide an "honest" assessment of her book, they had to delete them. Nevermind the facts that, 1. Review trolling happens in BOTH ends of 1 star and 5 star reviews, where people 'friendly' to the product or author will 'troll' the review section with super-positive reviews. Amazon did NOT delete them! 2. There is NO way that EVERY negative review can arbitrarily be claimed false! 3. Amazon DOES NOT delete negative 'troll-reviews' of conservative authors(or most non-political authors). So this is obviously preferential treatment carried out in a very dishonest and inconsistent manner!

I've already commented on this, but I have another hought. I think Amazon should adopt a policy wherein you can't review something on their site unless you've bought it on their site. Then? Anything goes. But I have a feeling that if they adopted that policy, many grudge reviews, if not all, would be eliminated throughout their website.

Pretty sure that has nothing to do with Hillary but with the desire of Amazon to sell their books. Overtly negative reactions are not that helpful for their goal of selling books.

Also, were the responses from actual readers of her book or more opponents of her policies/Hillary herself. We are living in the extreme partisan reality of 2017 and Amazon may have felt that there are responses that were not genuine book reviews but character attacks on Hillary and her book. We can never be sure what the reality of that is anymore.

So there we have it. Two candidates who can't shut up about the election. Hillary labeling her book, what happened, and Trump getting pictures of electoral college maps every other day. And people wonder why I didn't like those two...

In all fairness though amazon does allow reviews from unverified purchasers. Usually amazon puts verified purchaser on the review, however many people who review products for amazon do own the products but never bought them from amazon. Like for example reviewing a xyz brand television and calling it junk they bought off of walmart because they had a sale for near half the price of amazon, but is still the same product being reviewed.

Indeed, how else could the magic of Tuscan Whole Milk, Three Wolf Shirt and Denon Link Cable cable reviews exist?

I think in this case the negative reviews were from people who didn't even read the book. "Lock her up," is not an appropriate book review.

Amazon's statement: Translation. No one is reading the book, but trolls shouldn't give it or be allowed to give it a one star rating. Pretty simple.

If I wanted to give political hacks one star ratings for their books, and often I do, then I would read said book and point out their hypocrisy. It's only fair.

Do you think that?

Why do you think that?

Any evidence?

Amazon update: Here's what happened to all the 1-star reviews of Hillary Clinton's new book

Source is a blog, so feel free to believe they received the above quote directly from Amazon spokesperson or don't. But over the years, I've seen this happen at Amazon for other controversial books that appear to be "troll bombed", so I believe it to be an accurate representation of their procedures.

Wouldn't you think if a book just comes out, there would be a lot of reviews all being posted in a short time frame?

If it's just pissed off "lock 'er ups" writing bad reviews, then that is no different than restaurants being given bad reviews by the competition. Best way to tell if it's a legitimate review? Check the spelling.

:)

That still doesn't explain why this happened with only this book.

I have no interest in that book, but when dealing with Amazon reviews of political hot button books you can see a lot of "reviews" that are from people who are spamming without buying or reading. I use the "verified purchase" indicator to filter. If Amazon is playing with that, I'll call it a problem. Deleting 1 or 5 star spam reviews from people who didn't bother to really "review", I don't care.:)

That still doesn't explain why this happened with only this book.

Nobody claimed it's not generally done. But there is always outrage from the conservative media when they are being filtered.
Amazon is monitoring its own website for troll behavior? An outrage! Sounds like some serious suppression of free speech is going on! :2razz:

Just a reminder, Amazon is a private company and has no duty to uphold free speech. I'm sure Amazon deletes reviews of conservative books too -- written by trolls, but there is never the outrage from that.

Amazon is a business. Their main job is to sell product. They will not be the first company to remove reviews to boost sales, nor will they be the last.

Honestly, you are either going to read the book or you are not. A review will not change your mind at this point. Not when it comes to someone as demonized as HRC.

Wouldn't you think if a book just comes out, there would be a lot of reviews all being posted in a short time frame?

1500 reviews over night? lol no.

Yep, yet once they reached a 95% approval rating they seem to have stopped deleting the "unverified purchase" reviews. They still kept 591 reviews for only 381 verified purchases because... ??? It seems to me that if you're in the business of selling X then you want to have as many "X is a great product" reviews as possible. I never trust vendor or manufacturer product reviews as much as I do reviews from independent sources - even then you don't really know if those vendors/manufacturers are buying ads from those doing the reviews (Consumer Reports being a notable exception).

Exactly

I expect all reviews on retailer websites to be positive with just a few negatives. To many negatives and the product wont sell

That still doesn't explain why this happened with only this book.

What? who said that?

is that true? do you have proof of that? Please post.

if this was the only time in Amazons existence reviews were cleaned up the i would agree, THAT would be shady!

Exactly

Yet, apparently, it works well for the retailers or they would not do it. :)

If the we realize that these reviews on the vendor's sites are apt to be total BS then why bother to read them? It has been said that 15% will buy anything new that hits the market, that 15% will never try anything new and the rest is up to market research, advertising and salesmanship. ;)

What? Amazon only accepts reviews from people who bought the book from Amazon?

People can't have got it from a store, or borrowed it from someone who already had it?

borrowed it from someone who already had it, then read it? Within just a few hours of the book's release? LMAO.

1500 reviews over night? lol no.

So if, as you say, 1500 reviews came in overnight, shouldn't the positive reviews have been deleted as well?

How many of those 1500 read the book overnight to give it a 5 star rating?

I have to wonder how many of these deleted 1 star reviews were actually by people who bought and read her book? Because I can't imagine buying a book by someone you don't like. I would be like some of the rabid leftists or die had Trump-tards buying a book by Ted Cruz or Glenn Beck. Heck I doubt they would even read it if someone gave them a copy. I listened to Obama's Dreams From my father, but I got that for free.

LMAO actually its a terrible point, if one is being objective and actually following the story you will notice they kept all the verified purchase reviews around 300+ (have to double check booth these numbers) and about 300 of the others whether they were positive or negative if they didnt violate policy and didnt seem like troll reviews. oooops. Like i said with the actual facts we have this is basically a non story.

Anything else?

Oh yeah speaking of stories and being honest and objective you claimed

That still doesn't explain why this happened with only this book.

do you have any proof of that yet? because THAT actually would be shady and complete BS

or is that just somethign else you made up and assumed? ;)

But people do that all the time. On Yelp I would see people posting negative reviews to restaurants because they saw Kitchen Nightmares or The Profit.

Although that behavior is very troll-ish, people should still have a right to post a negative review.

But they also kept about 200 more non-verified positive reviews, didn't they?

Why did they do that if there wasn't time for people to have read the book in 1 night?

No I don't have proof that this was the only book they did this with.

See you Righties still got a hard on for Hilldog, let it go, the Dems have finished with her. I guess fools need some sort of booogeyman, or woman.

1.) isnt that what i just said lol seems like you arent reading anything just making up what you want
2.) AGAIN going by what i just said and the info they kept ALL posts positive and negative that didnt seem like troll posts or that did not violated TOS and rules.
3.) So you made it up based on a biased assumption, thanks
