Amazon caught deleting negative reviews of Hillary's book, but not good reviews!

They did delete reviews from people who were unverified on the site, yes.
However that also means they are deleting reviews of people who actually purchased the book, read it, and did not like it. I am one of those people, though I purchased through a partnered book store, and not ebay.

It shows they are trying to impact how the book is being received, and how the reviews of the book are going. Though this isn't going to last long, as I imagine even the most prominent attempts to silence these reviews will be buried by the sheer weight of them all.

This is a tactic that plenty of business's do in order to influence their image with potential customers.

Did you use Amazon to make that purchase? If not, then your purchase can't be verified by Amazon - correct?

I only use Amazon prime, and that is for current game, and tech releases. I do have my own copy of the book, and I can agree that it is pretty much a brick of garbage. Aside from two whole chapters, she talks about nothing relevant to the election, or back-peddles on more then enough of her own words.

Not to mention her saying that 1984, was a good example of why we need to trust our government???

I heard about that, and I think that was one of the main reasons for me getting the book in the first place... oh well. There goes 20$ down the drain.

Has anyone here read the book?

Paranoia strikes deep, especially when a Clinton is involved.

Its a complete waste besides 2 chapters.
She rambles on more then I have even known her to do before the election... and she still manages to keep blaming everyone else.

I'm not saying don't get it, just because its one of those books that everyone needs to read. Be they either right or left in my opinion, it just helps to draw a new perspective on the woman.

Some books stores can nab it for 15$, you just have to ask the right stores. Or check on Ebay, and see what their prices are going for.

Amazon and others have been doing this for years. When they find an user that is suspect, the user account is blocked and the reviews removed. You can literally buy reviews for stuff on many websites..or likes/dislikes. Or followers on Twitter, Instagram and so on.

From the first 1500+ reviews, only 338 were from verified book-buyers. https://www.theguardian.com/books/2...tar-reviews-of-hillary-clintons-what-happened

Yep, yet once they reached a 95% approval rating they seem to have stopped deleting the "unverified purchase" reviews. They still kept 591 reviews for only 381 verified purchases because... ??? It seems to me that if you're in the business of selling X then you want to have as many "X is a great product" reviews as possible. I never trust vendor or manufacturer product reviews as much as I do reviews from independent sources - even then you don't really know if those vendors/manufacturers are buying ads from those doing the reviews (Consumer Reports being a notable exception).

I can't help but think that if all the HC haters out there stopped bitching and whinging about all things HC, she'd disappear much faster.

Apparently HC still owns an awful lot of real estate inside many people's heads.

Jesus people, let it go. Other than in your heads, she's irrelevant at this stage of the game.

Hillary loses the election, and refuses to take any responsibility for her loss, and as of now, she has literally come up with 42 different 'reasons' why she lost, none of which are her fault. So she writes her new book to explain to us "what happened"(the name of her book). After it went on sale at amazon, they began receiving reviews. They were mostly negative, but also a lot of glowing 5 star reviews. Her book had a 2 to 2.5 star review.

But then, suddenly, ALL of the 1 star reviews mysteriously disappeared! Many media outlets reported on this phenomenon, so finally amazon admitted to their shady behavior of arbitrarily removing ALL negative reviews, but leaving ALL 5 star reviews! Only, as is common when every other biased entity is busted, they denied bias, and claimed that ALL negative reviews were merely attempts at trolling, so to provide an "honest" assessment of her book, they had to delete them. Nevermind the facts that, 1. Review trolling happens in BOTH ends of 1 star and 5 star reviews, where people 'friendly' to the product or author will 'troll' the review section with super-positive reviews. Amazon did NOT delete them! 2. There is NO way that EVERY negative review can arbitrarily be claimed false! 3. Amazon DOES NOT delete negative 'troll-reviews' of conservative authors(or most non-political authors). So this is obviously preferential treatment carried out in a very dishonest and inconsistent manner!
Amazon Deletes One-Star Reviews of Hillary's New Book 'What Happened'

Amazon deletes 1-star reviews off Hillary Clinton's new book 'What Happened' | Miami Herald

bezos is friends with hillary. they also discounted the book 40% on day one to boost sales of the book.

While I like the procedures, I dont like the implementation.

Amazon will always remove troll reviews against big guns like Hillary, but they dont do squat when independent authors get trolled by 1-stars.

They probably have a system in place based on ratings and popularity, unfortunately. They can't monitor everyone, but I'm sure they monitor the best sellers.

Um there are still plenty of one star reviews from verified purchases.
Political books generally don't get above three stars from me.

The cover tell you everything you need to know. Question and reason.

What? Amazon only accepts reviews from people who bought the book from Amazon?

People can't have got it from a store, or borrowed it from someone who already had it?

Amazon can do whatever it wants...they're a business.

non issue

Hundreds of one-star reviews of Hillary Clinton’s memoir What Happened, which appeared online within hours of the 512-page book’s publication, have been removed from Amazon. What Happened, in which Clinton gives her account of the 2016 presidential campaign, was published on Tuesday. By Wednesday morning, there were more than 1,500 reviews of the memoir on Amazon.com, the majority either glowing or scathing. The book’s publisher at Simon & Schuster, Jonathan Karp, told the Associated Press: “It seems highly unlikely that approximately 1,500 people read Hillary Clinton’s book overnight and came to the stark conclusion that it is either brilliant or awful.”

Quartz, which tracked the reviews in detail, said that of the 1,500-odd original reviews, “only 338 were from users with verified purchases of the book”. At the time, What Happened had an overall rating of 3.2 stars, but Quartz points out that “average rating for reviews from unverified purchases was a 2.3, while the average from a real purchase of the book was 4.9”.

The internet quickly realized Wednesday that some of the reviews of “What Happened” — notably 1-star reviews — were being removed. But the company defended its move, saying it had the right to make sure that reviewers were actually commenting on the product at hand, not just expressing dislike of the former Democratic presidential candidate (of which there is plenty, nine months after the election).

“In the case of a memoir, the subject of the book is the author and their views,” an Amazon spokesperson told Fortune. “It’s not our role to decide what a customer would view as helpful or unhelpful in making their decision. We do however have mechanisms in place to ensure that the voices of many do not drown out the voices of a few and we remove customer reviews that violate our community guidelines.”

So why would a bunch of comments from right wing trolls and Bernie people who almost certainly didn't read the book at all be useful to customers legitimately thinking about purchasing the book because they want to hear her side of the story? Do you seriously expect us to believe that all those negative comments were comming from people who had actually read it, and just thought it was a boring read? No, I guarentee you every negative comment on there was comming from someone who just flat out hated Hillary, didn't read the book at all, and therefore was not in anyway useful to Amazon's customers.

"Trump happened" isn't a review of the ****ing book why would they leave it up?

edit: Oh hey there's more pages.

Yes it is a sign of some rather shady, and underhanded crap going on.
But its not against the law seeing as they have the right to do so on their own forum.

Unfortunately its something they are going to do, and continue to get away with.

No, it's freaking not.

Amazon's reviews are for people to review the product and not a single one of the deleted comments actually reviewed the, you know, product.

Amazon.com isn't a political forum. You aren't rating Hillary Clinton on that page. You're supposed to rate and review the book and none of those right-wing trolls did that.

Wow. Is there Nothing outlets say that we can trust?

Tell me how "Look in a mirror Hillary" constitutes a review of the book.

Explain to me why that should be left on a product review page.

Perfect suggestion for a new title?

Seems to me that only people who bought the books through Amazon should be able to review it on Amazon... That may be a new policy they should develop.

I don't know how widespread the problem is, just that Amazon acted similarly when trolls attacked Megyn Kelly's book last fall.

I do know one author on Amazon who has written glowing reviews of his own book.

Yes, otherwise someone could spam them with hundreds of thousands of false reviews for books or products they sell.

PoS, an Author who sells on Amazon, said not a week ago right here on DP that the Amazon reviews are cooked...he should know.
