"“The audience is extremely small,” said Ellen Mickiewicz, a Duke University-based expert on Russian media who's studied RT closely. She noted that the channel did not make it into a ranking of the top 94 cable news channels in the United States (the lowest ranking channel in that survey had less than 1 percent of total cable news viewers) and that just 1 percent of the videos it posts on YouTube are political in nature.*"

Are you suggesting some NITWIT is propagating false info as regards RT popularity? Entirely possible.

I was getting ready to comment that I think TYT has a larger online presence than RT does.
I'm not exactly sure how they calculate that, as I think TYT has a bunch of other shows under it's name or something as well, so that might be involved? Or is this just the TYT show and not the other shows in the "TYT Network"?

That is _just_ their main channel.

Who gets news from youtube?

Who gets news from youtube?
Me, for one. Or rather, the internet in general, but YouTube is one of the places where videos discussing various things are hosted.
Have to be careful what you believe on there though, just like anywhere on the internet.
Or in real life for that matter.

its a myth of Muscovite propaganda, Ossetia was already occupied by Muscovite hordes , from O. they attacked Georgia day and night , provoking Georgians and Americans who helped Georgians to rebuilt its country .

Litwin:

Some things are just facts. Others are myths. The factual basis for Georgia's attack on Ossetia in 2008 is a matter of public record and is sound. Were there provocations beforehand? Yes. Did those provocations justify Saakashvili's decision to attack? No. Did the Saakashvili's Regime crumble amidst charges of corruption and criminal behaviour? Yes. Did Saakashvili re-emerge as a player in the US-Russian proxy war in Ukraine several years later after a brief stint as a professor in America? Yes. Why was a Georgian under the cloud of corruption allegations all of a sudden fast-tracked for Ukrainian citizenship and then appointed as governor of the Odessa Oblast to "fight corruption" there? Hummm. Curious, is it not? Facts and History bite!

Cheers.

Are you aware that every 3-4 months Russian soldiers move the Ossetian border another ~400 yards further into Georgia?

Putin is Literally Moving Georgia’s Border

Rogue Valley:

I was aware of the border dispute and the goal of pushing the frontier to the boundaries of Soviet era Ossetia. I was not aware of the frequency of this border creep. So thanks for pointing that out. You learn something each day!

That having been said, the article you cited and others I read in response to your post all seem to agree that Russia views the Georgian desire to gravitate towards Europe and its desire to join the NATO alliance as an existential threat. Russia does not want a NATO frontier right on its boarders and wants a system of buffer states between NATO and its borders where ever possible. That is the driver behind its actions in what it sees as the Russian "near abroad" and it will behave accordingly to create and defend thiese buffers.

The US behaves no differently when the American near abroad is threatened by non-American superpower influences. From Argentina through Guatemala, to Cuba, to Nicaragua to Grenada to modern-day Columbia we have seen this pattern unfold repeatedly. What would the US Government do if the Maduro regime invited in 100,000 Chinese PLA troops into Venezuela in order to help it re-establish domestic order and social peace? What if Mexico sought Chinese military assistance in putting down the drug cartels by military means and authorised the construction of PLA bases in Mexico? The US would use every option from covert support of local resistance groups to outright military action to prevent such moves. The US would not tolerate PLA bases in America's near abroad anymore than Russia will tolerate NATO bases in its own near abroad.

Sometimes geography and international realities limit a country's freedom of action and both Georgia and Ukraine forgot that. Did Russia act honourably and in accordance with agreements which it made and signed while acting within the norms which others say it should operate within? Of course not. Did it operate according to realpolitik and the cynical norms of states which are well documented and illustrated by history? Yes, unfortunately it did.

Litwin's focus on just one side of these issues and what I perceive to be his desire to demonise Russia and Putin maybe his right to pursue but that does not make them objective, honest or helpful in understanding what is really going on in a comprehensive and balanced way. It smacks of ultranationalism and xenophobia focused to spread hyperactive suspicion, national division and to promote reflexive militarism in the minds of those who read his posts uncritically. In short, it is baiting people to act on a superficial understanding of the East-West divide across Eurasia. That's my opinion and I choose to exercise my free speech to caution against what I conclude is dangerous hate-mongering and unnecessary demonisation in the service of pernicious nationalism and militarism.

Putin is a very bad man, a great man but not a good man. He is doing what he does for what are sound reasons from his and Russia's perspective. He has an agenda and is following that agenda, just as his opponents and his critics are following ther own agendas. Some of what he does benefits him and his crony-elites and hurts the broader Russian population. That is no different from what Western European leaders and elites do routinely in pursuit of their national and European-wide policies. It is no different from what China and America do too. How many Americans condemn Russian aggression in Georgia and Ukraine in one breath but are now advocating for and willing to accept Chinese aggression and US aggression on the Korean Peninsula? Circumstances matter and perspective colours everything in international affairs and the competition between states.

Cheers.

So what? I'm not seeing a problem here. Are you saying you want to have some kind of firewall, similar to what China has, to block information?

Yay we are nearly Orwellian territory now.

We are knee-deep into Orwell now. Have been for a while. The control of the language that is being implemented is one of the main factors, we also have a very developed surveillance state.

Makes perfect sense if Saakashvili is CIA. Lawyer, educated in the USA. Fast tracked to CIA organized Georgia and then to CIA organized Ukraine. Yes, indeedy, completely transparent.

It's not even that easy to know how many Americans are tuning in. RT claims it has more than 500,000 unique viewers every day and more than 800 million views on its YouTube channel since 2005. On its website, RT says that it can reach 85 million people in the United States. When asked for comment, its spokesperson pointed to a November 2015 study (commissioned by the channel), which found that RT is watched by 8 million people weekly in America, and that it's among the top five international broadcasters in the country....

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...-propaganda-arm-its-not-very-good-at-its-job/

This "reach" is dwarfed by The Young Turks by almost a factor of 10. Did TYT affect the outcome of the election? Not terribly. So what is your point here? If YouTube controls politics, then you better get ready for the 2020 presidential debates, which are going to contain nothing but whining about Anita Sarkeesian, Milo Stewart, and virtue-signaling SJW cucks.

We are chest-deep in the Orwellian world, and very distracted and misinformed.

The grammatically perfect English language texts of an 8 year old Syrian girl, who barely speaks English, are presented by the USA MSM as absolute gospel even though they come from the White Helmets propaganda outlet. You're absolutely right, someone is twisting the NEWS into fantasy. It is collectively known as the USA MSM. Only the naive and the truly ignorant fail to see through the Goebbelian structure of the USA MSM. Would that be because the USA MSM is wholly owned by just a handful of USA oligarchs who licenses won't be approved if they don't toe the line? Try not to get any on ya'.

Remember the Kuwaiti "nurse" who told us all about the babies being thrown out of the incubators by the Iraqis. What US Madison Avenue propaganda firm was it that orchestrated that lie with the oh so black "White House"?

How many gullible Americans/westerners still believe that gigantic lie?

How many gullible Americans/westerners still believe the completely unsubstantiated lies of the equally ludicrous US government 911 fable?

When contemplating war, beware of babies in incubators

by Tom Regan

...

From there it began to pick up steam, as one media unit after another started repeating the story without checking it. Sensing an opening, the Hill & Knowlton people jumped on the story.

The key moment occurred on October 10, when a young woman named Nayirah appeared in front of a congressional committee. She told the committee, "I saw the Iraqi soldiers come into the hospital with guns, and go into the room where 15 babies were in incubators. They took the babies out of the incubators, took the incubators and left the babies on the cold floor to die."

Hill & Knowlton immediately faxed details of her speech to newsrooms across the country, according to CBC's Fifth Estate's documentary. The effect was electric. The babies in incubator stories became a lead item in newspapers, and on radio and TV all over the US.

It is interesting that no one, not the congressmen in the hearing, or any journalist present, bothered to find out the identity of the young woman. She was the daughter of Kuwait's ambassador to the United States, and actually hadn't seen the "atrocities" she described take place. (When later confronted with the lack of evidence for her claims, the young woman said that she hadn't been in the hospital herself, but that a friend who had been there had told her about it. )

Are you aware that the USA, all on its own, decided the 38th parallel was a border in a country that had no borders?

Are you aware that the US sets up its own countries all around the world, installing its own, always RIGHT WING vicious, brutal dictatorships?

Are you aware that America and Americans are the biggest hypocrites in the world?

Some people don't understand what hypocrisy is.

Criticizing our current and past actions and policies does not make one anti-american.
