BOSTON —
Boston officials said they were pleased with the mostly-peaceful protests which took over Boston Common and the surrounding area on Saturday.

Later Saturday afternoon, Boston's police department tweeted that protesters were throwing bottles, urine and rocks at them and asked people publicly to refrain from doing so.

TV cameras showed a group of boisterous counterprotesters on the Common chasing a man with a Trump campaign banner and cap, shouting and swearing at him. But other counterprotesters intervened and helped the man safely over a fence into the area where the conservative rally was to be staged.

Black-clad counterprotesters also grabbed an American flag out of an elderly woman's hands, and she stumbled and fell to the ground.

Those are some of the comments in the article. All other comments read like everyone sitting together singing Kumbya. Does anyone else see the irony of the headline? There were 4 arrests in Charlottesville including the asshole that rammed his car into people.

I applaud the peaceful protesters. They should be (and some are) denouncing the Anti-fa who is only there to cause problems.

It is difficult to get accurate crowd size figures for these "protests" but I suspect that the number arrested to crowd size is similar between Boston and Charlottesville.

My guess is that 27 arrests from a crowd of 40K Boston "protestors" is actually (a bit) less than 4 arrests from a crowd of 5K Chalottesville "protestors".

This may be a stupid question. I've asked plenty. But what were the counterprotesters counterprotesting? Say that three times fast.

And yes. I see the irony. IMO, the Charlottesville riot was permitted for political hay. That young woman may not have died had cops intervened much earlier. Not sure they EVER really intervened...

I don't blame the cops one bit. I blame the people who gave them their orders.

As ttwtt already pointed out, it was 33 out of 40,000 people. That's 0.08%. Sounds like a real radical left epidemic.

There is no comparison between the two events. Boston PD let no one NEAR the demonstrators carrying ANYTHING that could be used as a weapon. They also kept the two sides separated. Charlottesville was crowd control failure. Boston was crowdmcontrol at its finest.

100% agree. Most of the arrests were disorderly conduct involving nobody getting hurt, no officers injured and no property damage. [1] Boston had the good sense to keep protesters on both sides disarmed and under control.

The article covers that question.

Boston-area leaders of Black Lives Matter said Friday that they did not accept claims from the organizers of the "Free Speech Rally."
.
.
"If this was really about free speech, we would have been invited from day one to speak and have a platform," said Boston-area Black Lives Matter co-organizer Angelina Camacho.

They were pissed that they didn't get invited to speak. And since they weren't invited then the rally was "obviously" racist.

I'm glad someone actually is paying attention!

In Charlottesville the democrat run city allowed people to waltz in carrying sticks, pipes, aerosols, back packs obviously heavy with "something" - Duhhh... And of course body armor and masks. The state governor, Terry Mcaullife (former honcho of the Clinton Foundation) when asked why the riot gear didn't raise suspicions, seemed to me to say "We thought they got their Halloween dates wrong. No harm, no foul. They are with us"

I saw one guy with a one handed aerosol flame thrower. I have no idea how that was done. Kudo's for creativity and innovation in the quest for a more pure society.

Four arrests in Charlottesville means one thing only: law enforcement was unwilling or unable to do their jobs.

The Boston Police Commissioner said that "99.9% of the people at the protest were there for the right reasons." That may sound like an arbitrary number at first, but if 33 were arrested out of 40,000 protesters, that means .08% of people were misbehaving. Which means that the Commissioner's number was slightly under the mark, and in fact 99.92% of the people were there for all the right reasons.

Explain your purpose in using the phrase I have bolded and enlarged in your post. I'm struggling to understand what the political governance demographics have to do with a neo-nazi driving a car into a bunch of people.

Are you trying to suggest that if Republicans ran the city, the neo-nazi would have simply exercised his right to free speech and only acted on his evil intent because democrat something something? Or was it just another stupid smear aimed at "teh left" because, hey, DP posters just can't let a thread continue without at least one of those?

All that is a can of hair spray or WD 40 and a lighter.

Saw that back more than 25 year ago as teenager playing around in back alleys. I understand but never tried it works well at clearing out wasp nests (make sure it is not attached to anything flammable )

Why are you trying to diminish the damage it can do by saying "All that is"?

I am pointing out how it is done, as the words

"Flamethrower" make it sound like some military weapon that has massive range and cause massive devastation. With my description people will have an accurate view of what it was, the potential of the flame and the range of it. Ie about 5 feet at most. As I expect most men on this site have at least played with this type of thing before, they also know the potential damage it can cause

How many demonstrations have more people with no violence? Quite a few.

The "Neo-Nazi" was a one-off like the lefty who shot that republican senator. I dont believe in cherry picking one bad person and characterizing the whole group.

Google "was Charlottesville a set up by Terry Mcaullife, formerly a honcho of the Clinton Foundation?

I would like to hear that police chiefs reasoning behind engineering (under oath) a clash between the groups that were armed with clubs, armor, flame throwers, and masks. That was stupid even for democrats.

My question was very simple. My question was why you said the bolded in the following:

I'm glad someone actually is paying attention!

The fact that you saw something on google isn't a reason to tell us about it. You can find out all about google on Charlottesville. For example, that it is known as "C-ville" by some locals, that James Monroe was born there, that the first black church in the city was established in 1864, and that the former C&O railway station on East Water Street was converted into offices around the mid-1990s. Yet you told none of that to us.

Out of all the things that are true about Charlottesville and are on google, you decided that it was important to stress that it was "Democrat run." Why did you do that, aka, what was your purpose?

Could you please give an honest answer this time?

33 arrested during day of protests; Officials praise largely peaceful result

Of the estimated 40,000 attendees, Boston Police said 33 were arrested for charges including assault and battery on police officers. Three people were found wearing ballistic vests, and one of those was armed, Police Commissioner William Evans said.
[snip]
Later Saturday afternoon, Boston's police department tweeted that protesters were throwing bottles, urine and rocks at them and asked people publicly to refrain from doing so. About 10 minutes before that, President Donald Trump had complimented Boston police, tweeting: "Looks like many anti-police agitators in Boston. Police are looking tough and smart! Thank you."

So then can we assume that the 33 who were arrested were so-called counter-protesters?
What were they counter-protesting anyway? Free speech?
Sounds strange, dunnit?

I will also point out that the guy he was pointing that at had a pole. There were people who were severely beaten by pole carrying neo-nazi rally folks. The aerosole flame thrower seems to be an improvised weapon against being beaten by the neo-nazi protester
