Fox News retracts story on Seth Rich murder investigation

Hannity Weasels Out of Seth Rich Conspiracy

Hannity Weasels Out of Seth Rich Conspiracy
The Fox News anchor said Tuesday night that ‘for now’ he would not discuss the unfounded conspiracy theory he’s been pushing relentlessly—but failed to mention the real reason why.

Faced with widespread expressions of disgust from liberal groups, journalism watchdogs, and even his own Fox News colleagues, Sean Hannity didn’t double down Tuesday night on his fact-free promotion of an unfounded conspiracy theory that 27-year-old Democratic National Committee staffer Seth Rich was murdered in Washington, D.C., last July because he talked to WikiLeaks.

Instead, Hannity weaseled out of it.

“Out of respect for the family’s wishes, for now, I am not discussing this matter at this time,” the Fox News 10 p.m. host announced—after using his radio and television programs to push the widely debunked claim, hinted at by the less than reputable Julian Assange, that Rich was whacked as payback for leaking the politically damaging DNC emails to WikiLeaks during last year’s presidential campaign.

In what might have seemed a shocking omission, but par for the course considering the source, Hannity failed to mention the likely real reason for his grudging reversal—that his own cable network, the Fox News Channel, had officially retracted the bogus Seth Rich story earlier Tuesday.

A May 16 article posted on the Fox News website “was not initially subjected to the high degree of editorial scrutiny we require for all our reporting,” the conservative-leaning network declared in a statement. “Upon appropriate review, the article was found not to meet those standards and has since been removed.” Rich was found shot to death on a sidewalk near his Washington home on July 10, 2016, and his killing remains unsolved.

One is getting 24/7 coverage based on nothing. The other is being ignored entirely.

Apples and oranges.

"Based on nothing," except for numerous confirmed contacts between Trump's campaign and the Russians that were either not disclosed as required by law or flat-out lied about to federal investigators.

Okay, I'll use my common sense: it's not my place to speculate.

You believe every lie told about trump that makes him look bad but close your eyes to worse behavior on your own side

So your defense for your conspiracy theory is that you think something else is a conspiracy theory?

Wow, that's a watertight argument you've got there. Maybe you should pack it up, Mac77, you've clearly run out of steam here.

Thousands of contacts every year between the Russians and hundreds of senators, representatives, and administration folks. Yawn.

To worse behavior? You honestly think that Seth Rich was killed by the DNC? or by Hillary? Do you really honestly believe that?

Family of slain DNC staffer Seth Rich sends 'cease and desist' letter to Fox News contributor - Chicago Tribune

Fox News staffers 'disgusted' at network's promotion of Seth Rich conspiracy theory - May. 22, 2017

Letter from Aaron Rich to Hannity producer:

"Think about how you would feel losing a son or brother. And while dealing with this, you had baseless accusations of your lost family member being part of a vast conspiracy. As the family, we would hope to be the first people to learn about any such evidence and reasons for Seth's death. It is a travesty that you would prompt false conspiracy theories and other people's agendas rather than work with the family to learn the truth.

As such, we urge you to please, not provide a platform for a person who is known to have pushed false evidence in the past and not allow him to make a mistake like that here. Nobody wants to solve Seth's murder more than we do. However, providing a platform to spread potentially false, damaging information will cause us additional pain, suffering and sorrow. By airing this information, you will continue to emotionally hurt us. We appeal to your decency to not cause a grieving family more pain and suffering by allowing your platform to be used by someone to drag our family name through the mud."

Seth Rich's brother pleads with Hannity to stop spreading conspiracy theory - May. 23, 2017

Yet you believe the family is working with Hannity. Okay.

I believe they are immensely grieving over their son's death, and the prospect of him working as a leak from the DNC to WikiLeaks makes them more distraught.

Still, if it's true, it MUST be investigated. Don't you think?

All I know is the DNC is scared to death of this. If there was nothing to it, why wouldn't they just let Hannity bury himself. They would.

This murder doesn't add up at all, especially since Democrats don't want it investigated at all.

I think someone murdered rich for a reason and given his position in the DNC and leaked emails attributed to him bill and hillary had the most reason to kill him

To worse behavior? You honestly think that Seth Rich was killed by the DNC? or by Hillary? Do you really honestly believe that?

Why not?

Hillary really, really wanted to be the first woman and first first lady to be president.

Ah, so they're grieving so hard they're not aware that they asked Fox News to stop at once and that they are also unaware that they're actually working with Hannity?

Are you following the sequence of your own posts?

Roger Ailes died, and given his relationship with Fox News it stands to reason it was murder and that Hannity killed him.

A "robber" shot Ailes 3 times and then ran away without taking anything of value?

I don't think so

For starters, there's no evidence suggesting this is true. It would be a massive secret to hide. All of the evidence gone over by intelligence agencies lead them to be sure that Russia was behind the leaks, not Seth Rich. The people that have released the information behind this story got almost everything wrong and clearly have a motive other than just getting the truth out. etc. etc.

I know for a fact you don't have evidence, but do you have even any logic behind this other than "well hillary wanted to be president!" Besides that, what good would killing this guy do? The information was already stolen. All it would do is create a scenario where she was caught as an accomplice to murder. I don't see how killing someone who was caught leaking would help her in any way. Just fire him and sue him if possible. And that's assuming he was the leaker, which to date we have 0 evidence and a bunch of lies.

Its very easy to hide stuff from the rablid left

Just rail against trump and never mention seth rich and they will never know or care what happened to him

His family knows its not true. They have his laptop and access to his email. The fox reports all claimed the FBI or the police were holding his laptop even though 40000 something emails were found to wikileaks or some bull****. Everything regarding this scandal has been found to be false. I don't know why you can't see that.

You said it would be a massive secret to hide from leftwingers and I disagreed

Liberals do not know anything if they dont' hear it in the leftwing media

Ailes just "died" for no reason? Yeah, I don't think so. Given the contentious manner of his departure from Fox News, it's only reasonable to conclude that Hannity killed him and O'Reilly buried the body.

You don't think it would be incredibly difficult to keep the secret that Hillary Clinton and/or the DNC had someone murdered? And to also be able to keep it from the FBI, police, DOJ, NSA and all the media that Seth Rich was the leaker? Come on Mac, you can't seriously think that would be an easy secret to keep.

Not with loyal libs like you in the audience who don't want to know anythinbg about seth rich

We do, the story is bull**** so much that even your precious Fox News dropped it. Why do trumpbots post idiotic comments?

What has the DNC said regarding Rich's murder? In exactly what ways are they attempting to prevent an investigation, or displaying that they don't want one?

Mac, your entire line of reasoning in this thread makes me really, really hope, in the interest of public safety, that you don't work as or for a prosecuting attorney or in a police homicide division in any capacity.

I'd love to know anything related to Seth Rich being the leaker or being killed by the DNC/Clinton. That would be amazing info. That's why I looked into it when Fox news reported it and I also saw where the guy that made the claim retracted that he knows there's emails between Seth and wikileaks. I don't know why you think I have no interest in this story when I fully read the initial fox news report and fully read the retraction and all the reporting in between. What else am I supposed to do? What information am I not looking at that I should be looking at?
