Uh, Donald Trump is not a "American on the street". He's a rich billionaire that was born into a rich family.

And I don't really know many people that think that it's the politicians in DC that define America. Not sure where you're getting that from.

    Amen and amen.

You didn't specify which of us you meant. But I'll agree that no, you didn't specifically say all of us are evil scumbags.

The thing is, Lutherf is right. If he gets it done, we don't care how lovable he is or politically correct he is or status quo he is and we don't care HOW he does it as long as he stays within the law and demonstrates at least some integrity in the process. And honestly, I haven't seen ANYTHING he has done, deliberately anyway, that is outside the law and that I can say I know for a fact is unethical. And I am guessing that none of the Trump haters can dispute that. All they have is hope that he is doing something bad so they can say they are right about him.

Well, Trump definitely hasn't shown any integrity. That's clearly not his thing.

Betsy DeVos for starters. She's a little trust fund baby who never worked in her life, and now she's running the Dept. of Ed. for the USA. What's she been doing since she was born heiress to a pyramid scheme scam fortune?

This is from an answer on Quora, https://www.quora.com/What-is-Betsy-...ucation-agenda

You’ve heard that old barb: If you’re so smart, how come you’re not rich?
People with money think they know everything. And Betsy DeVos is rich. Very rich.
That’s not a crime. But rich people donate tons of money to causes they consider worthy.
The DeVos Family gives away millions. Some pet DeVos projects:
Mackinac Center for Public Policy - To these people there’s no such thing as climate change: Progressing Backwards; Global Warming: Mother Nature Is Still In Charge; Global Warming Will Lead to Alien Invasions?
Americans for Prosperity - Fights price control on prescription drugs. Because if you keep drug prices low, we’ll run out of drugs. (Huh?) Price Controls on Prescription Drugs Are Bad Medicine for Consumers; Drug Prices Don’t Need a Big-Government Cure; Government No Cure for Drug Prices
Foundation for Traditional Values - Christianity is the foundation of “American freedom,” the sanctity of life from conception, “a free enterprise philosophy of government.”
Holy mackerel! ALL these causes have one thing in common: The Religious Right. And Betsy DeVos can’t wait for them to take over the U.S. education system.

In 2006, Richard DeVos, husband of Betsy, ran for Michigan governor on a platform of things he’d like to change. Richard Devos said:
“Intelligent people can disagree about the origins of life. In the end, I believe in our system of local control. Local school boards should have the opportunity to offer evolution and intelligent design in their curriculums."
I’m pretty sure intelligent design is not on the SAT’s. Michigan Candidate Backs Intelligent Design
The previous year, The New York Times ran “In Intelligent Design Case, a Cause in Search of a Lawsuit”. It was a report about the Thomas More Center, a nonprofit law firm that litigates pro-Christian platforms, like teaching creationism in science class. The DeVos Foundation gives away millions to Thomas More.
Covering DeVos For Governor, reporter Hector Solon posted the “Doctrine of Dick DeVos: Tithes that Buy the Christian Right” for Daily Kos.

The Foundation for Traditional Values is part of another group: The Citizens for Traditional Values,. Pat Robertson started this group in 1991 as the "Michigan Freedom Education Committee". They renamed it a few months later.
The people in these right wing organizations, and benefactors like the DeVos family, believe they are “on a special ‘mission from God’ to change government.” From the Citizens for Traditional Values website:
God’s commandments are very clear. Not only are we to be active participants in our surroundings, but we are to pray and give thanks for, respect and honor all authority, even those with which we disagree. …
By obeying Him in this way, our nation will be blessed and we will bring glory to God!

Re: Harvard Study Reveals Huge Extent of Anti-Trump Media Bias

    Continued from last post:

    They are anti-abortion:
Unborn Human Life — is life unique and does it come from God, and is the purpose of civil government to protect innocent human life?
They are anti-gay. To them, same-sex marriage is “a historic attack on the constitutional foundation of our country and the historic definition of marriage”:
Natural Marriage — are there God-given moral laws that are still relevant today? Is the family a God-ordained and society strengthening institution?
They want an “official” religion — Christianity, of course — and official government holidays like Christmas and Easter, to make sure people don’t forget who’s in charge:
Public Religious Expression — should the act of acknowledging God in our public life be prohibited or should religious freedom be preserved for all citizens?

Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse is endorsing billionaire Betsy. Senator Sasse loves to hear Betsy DeVos sing the praises of “educational freedom, local control for parents and more opportunity”, helping “millions of low-income kids” deprived of “an education that allows them to compete”. At least, that’s what he says.
You have to admit, some of this sounds great. Who wouldn’t want someone like Betsy DeVos, the long time chairman of Michigan’s Republican Party, running the U.S. Dep’t of Education? Aren’t billionaires eminently qualified to do that? They’re so smart. That’s how they got so rich.

Citizens for Traditional Values opposes separation of church and state. They believe a Christian church and a Christian state should work together to promote Christian values. They maintain that the Founding Fathers didn’t believe in separating church and state. That must therefore be un-American.
DeVos can fix that. She would “reform” education by redirecting tax dollars to Christian schools. Vouchers are the perfect way to get the U.S. Government and U.S. Taxpayers to pay for Christian schools.
Don’t worry. Poor kids don’t have to go to taxpayer-subsidized Christian schools if they don’t want to. Non-Christians don’t, either. It’s a free country.

To this end, the DeVos family prominently supports groups dedicated to Christianeducation “reform”.
Another pet project of the DeVos family is Michigan’s Student Statesmanship Institute. They train “Christ's Ambassadors” to promote “His Kingdom”. This DeVos-funded student nonprofit describes itself as “a dynamic Biblical worldview and leadership training program” committed to “restoring America's Judeo-Christian heritage.”
There’s a Student Statesmanship Institute in Minnesota (“As our culture grows darker, the need is increasing for strong, confident leaders who can winsomely shine the light of Christ …”), supported by the Minnesota Association of Christian Home Educators and Minnesota Christian High Schools.
This is Betsy DeVos’s education agenda. As Secretary of Education, Mrs. Richard DeVos. Michigan’s former Republican Committee chairman, would commit American tax dollars to a public policy that steers education toward fervent, extreme ‘Christian’ dogma.

That's just one example, and Sessions may be worse than DeVos. Want examples from his EO's? I agree with some of his EO's, BTW, but most accomplish nothing by themselves.

I honestly don't have much of a problem with Betsy DeVos, because she really hasn't done anything yet for me to object to.

I'm sure that's the way you see it because, though you are one who I can usually count on to be objective, you rarely have anything good to say about the President. And that sorta crowds you into the dedicated Trump hater group.

Most in that group never listen to him in full context and they don't look for anything other than bad press and don't seem to notice or care when so much of the negative stories turn out to be untrue. I look for all the news to be had before I believe anything I read these days. And the media comes out looking a lot worse than Trump does most of the time.

Conversely I listened to most of Obama's speeches, at least those that were televised, plus a lot of posted stuff that didn't make it onto the 10 o'clock news. And when something really outrageous was posted about Obama, I did a bit of research to determine if it was just an Obama-hater spouting off or if the accusation had legs. Nine times out of ten the complaint about Obama was unfounded or exaggerated or otherwise was falsely reported.

Take Obama's quip to Medvedev unintentionally caught on an open mic raised a lot of eyebrows. In itself illegal or unethical? No. but it did highly illustrate that what Obama was telling all of us was not going to be the way it actually was. And yes, we saw that as a strong negative. it was a story for a day. Of no consequence to Obama supporters and pretty much a yawn for everybody else.

Now if that had been Trump, all the Democrats in Congress, 95% of the entire media, and all of you would be demanding his immediate impeachment. How dare he! Unacceptable! Intolerable! And it would have been good for at least two weeks of non stop negative press.

And therein you have the difference.

And that's so far right of center that it needs a new label? I am unaware that any of those other people or groups are part of the Dept. of Education. And so far, I haven't seen anything Betsy has done that I think is detrimental to education. She certainly couldn't do much worse to education than what I see up close and personal. So education gets worse and worse under the former Education Secretaries. And she will do it differently I hope, I hope, I hope and maybe things will be better.

You'll have to try harder than that to convince me you have anything at all other than pure prejudice against President Trump or that you are doing anything other than what I see a highly unprofessional and unethical media doing.
