Statistical Analysis of Left vs. Right Partisan Media Consumption

Unless you didnxt agree with the story.

I don't agree with racism and xenophobia but, Reuters isn't a miserable partisan hack publication.

But, observations are that anything you don't like is a lie.

Not really. It might take me awhile to come around but if I encounter good evidence that I'm wrong about something my views will start to change.

Like yesterday I read a credible pro defense argument and I started to reconsider whether our military budget truly is as monstrous as I previously thought. The 3 point post by GTFErinyes seemed really good so I considered it.

You just never come across said good evidence, right?...lol

This is just you saying it.

This is just you saying it.

They're describing the link between "traditional media" and more partisan left-wing sites.

Do you know what traditional media is? It is generally older media from television and newspapers. The reason this is highlighted is because of its contrast with new media like Breitbart that is all online. It has nothing to do with left or right or center.

The Breitbart stuff (which is the core of the new media empire) is absolutely disinformation. You don't see anything like this in traditional media, hence the contrast.

Yeah. They were. So was I. The so-called traditional media is left wing enough for the denizens of the partisan left-wing sites to be comfortable visiting. The authors just described it as a noble search for information in a broad range of media.

Thanks for this. I'm going to read it a few times as there is much good information to be garnered from the article. I find it interesting that the right wing is most influenced by non- traditional news sources that have not been around long enough to establish their own traditions and standards. It is a source preference for the right wing. But why? I must go back and read the article again.

Theres Ed a lot to think about here.
I habe not read the article yet but i have my own theroy in asnswer to your question of why the right gravitates to nontraditional news sources.

Traditional news sources are generally left leaning and typically report right ideology in a negative light. Its not too surprising that many on the right are rejecting traditional news sites.

Conservatives don't trust established news sources because content is at variance with their worldview. It's much easier to believe that all poor people are lazy. It's much easier to believe that all Muslims are terrorists. It's much easier to believe all black people are asking to get beat down by the cops. The cognitive dissonance of discarding 60, 70 years of Repulicanism to agree with objective reality, is too large. Especially if that objective reality is sourced by the liberal news media. Bill O'Reilly has framed the situation as an "us vs. them" contest. How many times has he or Sean Hannity used "the left" disparagingly or in horror? They have painted the media and especially educated people as a monolith of traitors, hedonists, socialists whose beliefs are dangerous to the fabric of America. Fox News does propaganda, when they convince conservatives that the sky is green, rather than throw out 50, 60 years of trusting Republicans to give it to them straight, conservatives double down on a green sky.

Luckily, the digital media is on pace to phase out the news media. The Millenial generation is about to hit their maturity date. Most millenial's nowadays aren't just living to frisbee golf, pound tall boys, and chase skirt. They're starting to wake up to the ugly reality that our world is controlled by an elite bunch of psycopaths who are addicted to money. They control the news media that is in place to protect the status-quo, and the status quo is in place to protect the large moneyed interests, the fossil fuel industry, big pharma, the insurance lobby, the prison industrial complex, and the military industrial complex. CNN is fake news too they just don't have a pro-conservative bias like Fox. CNN will truth tell on Trump's health care plan being garbage but, when's the last time they were de-escalating the Cold War 2.0 or running a segment on climate change?

Since most millenials get their news from Facebook, "fake news" is an issue. But, fake news is not brand new. Millenial's know when they're in the supermarket, and they see the Enquirer headline, "Grey Aliens Abducted George Bush", it's garbage news. They can distinguish the same thing online. But, the Bill O'Reilly's of the world have convinced their viewers that all news from Facebook is fake news. And that mutates into All news online is fake news. Which enshrines the TV news source that always tells the news consumer what they want to hear, in protection. And it protects O'Reilly's ratings in a dying market.

Do you think we live in a post-scandal world now? I can almost guarantee that the Christian right's primary news source is Fox News despite Roger Ailes going down for being a sexual predator. I can also confirm that the Christian right voted for Trump despite Trump condoning sexual assault. (You can't just walk up and grab people's genitals. That's wrong. You shouldn't do that. If Trump was exageratting, so what, he's still a gross scumbag.) None of that matters, the perception of family values win out. Tomi Lahren went down for some scandal too. A bunch of old tweets surfaced of her, exhibiting normal drunk college girl behavior, but behavior that is at variance with her wholesome, girl next door, marketing image.

Damn winston i like you but your post disappoints me. Your falling for the propaganda of what your being sold that conservatives believe.

I most closely identify with libertarians in that i find i identify with both sides on various issues. The things i identify with conservatives contradicts your characterization of them.

They dont believe all poor people are lazy, muslims are terrorists, or all black people deserve to beat down. They disagree with the solutions offered by the left.

The left wants to provide for those who cant for themselves out of compassion. They believe the game is rigged and the cards are stacked against those born into poverty. The right disagrees that is the compassionate approach. They believe in the stick and carrot approach. They believe in making complacency uncomfortable to motivate them to strive to be more. Its an honest disagreement and its not rooted in bigotry. Its a philosophical difference.

As for.it being much easier to think this way, its the exact opposite. Practicing tough love is not easy and being called names for it compoynds how difficult it is.

At the very least, the Left has better writers who put together stories that cover more ground. The Rightie sites are written for people with an IQ of 85.

This doesn't hold across the board. National Review or American Conservative are as good as anything on the left.

Good point, but Trump apologists call those sources RINO.

Broad brushing conservatives was not my intention. I acknowledge that all conservatives don't believe in the more radical strains of Trumpism or alt right politics. But, I can find plenty of posts on this forum that show a strain of racism and xenophobia in conservative thinking.

I respect the philosophical debate of competing ideas. Of which you've highlighted, the idea of does welfare make the poor dependent on he state vs. does hard knocks create character?

Those 3 generalizations I made were in part a reaction to Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity, and the propaganda they do on Fox.

Yeah... and nobody reads the Daily Kos. Breitbart is the backbone of the right-wing disinformation empire. Even the president repeats the lies.

I just had a two-day debate war with a moderator on this very site and one other poster who linked to a story told by the DailyKos that accused Trump of refusing to meet with veterans groups and then didn't invite the VA Secretary to a meeting about veterans.... whike totally ignoring the huge, high level meeting that took place the day before.

Unfortunaely, people read the DailyKos. And even more unfortunately, they use it for information to form their opinions.

Long-winded malarkey!

Which fight is that? Where's your dog? What kind is it?

How do you measure bias in Canada, everyone's a leftwinger!

And we all live in Igloos, which never melt due to 13 months of winter, we all drink maple syrup delivered to us by Mounties, and we are all just super super polite. :) haha

Nah, bud, we have our share of alt-right donuts...check out The Rebel, our version of Breitbart.

What's gross is that since Trump, they seem to be crawling out of the woodwork. In a way, you guys are the case study to look at for the rest of us to ensure our countries don't suffer the same fate. Gotta prevent that domino effect, after all... ;)

You all drink Moosehead and Labatts too. That's enough to be denied American citizenship.

lol... I used to work for Labatt. However, you've forgotten Molson Canadian in there...they are far more of a cliché beer. Awful stuff. As for the rest, well....hehe...I think I can speak on behalf of most beer drinkers that actually drink "beer", and say that we've got it pretty good, compared to south of the border.

As for trying to get American citizenship...you're probably like the ones that actually want it...and we'd certainly love you to have them lol... Me, I like free health care and a distinct lack of, well, Trump. :)

Verax

I am the other poster GR is referring to, and while he claims I am proof that people read DK, the truth is I have never been to their website and read an article there. And the so-called debate GR is having with me is basically me trying to get him to comment on what Trump had said in his new conference while he (just like Trump) tossed out attacks and lies about everything except the topic of the thread, which is what Trump said about an upcoming meeting

But somebody did read the DailyKos, and then brought it here. And now you are defending it, in spite of it being an obvious and exposed lie.

You must be proud to have figured that out all by yourself
And now you are defending it, in spite of it being an obvious and exposed lie.

And I bet you are not the least bit ashamed of posting lies like that.

But it is cute to see you defend Trump by pretending you do not like lies while telling lies

You can't point to a lie I have told, because there isnt one, while I can pinpoint one you made and two others you are defending. Do you not realize that people can read it themselves and follow the clues? Do you think you can point to a dog while calling it a cat, and assume that anyone will actually believe you? I don't know if this says more about you or the people you surround yourself with.
