No, McCaskill not telling the truth was not relevant to this story. That's nonsense.
News media only needs to issue a retraction when they report something which isn't true. The Times did not report something which wasn't true.
They reported McCaskill criticizing Sessions and they used a direct quote from McCaskill. But the Times did not report something which was false. And they have another article about McCaskill's false statement.
Except they didn't. Read the original paragraph again. They merely reported what McCaskill said, nothing more. They did not take a position on McCaskill's claims, merely reported them.
Except they did not report something that was false. Everything the Times reported was true. McCaskill's statement was false, but she did, in fact, make that statement and she did indeed make the statement to cast doubt on Sessions claims. The Times was NOT wrong, their report was correct.
Period.
