Always the case with any satire. Got to keep it novel. But then it does have a gold mine of events to pick from with trump.
If this was england or new zealand i would stand on firmer ground with historical references to back me. Political satire is a well used knife in politics of those countries. But american satire has not had that kind of test. As has been stated on this thread a few times that american humour tends to get a bit personal and mean. That will turn people off.
South Park and The Simpsons have traditionally done satire better, especially South Park. I personally think that Saturday Night Live's overall quality has been low for awhile now. Weekend Update is probably the sharpest tool in their box, but it can't carry the show. Maybe this will spur their ratings for a bit, but not sure how they could sustain them. Phil Hartman was probably their last great comedic genius and he has been dead almost 20 years.
