Fox News, which passed CNN back in January 2002, averaged 1.8 million viewers this month to beat ESPN among total viewers as the most-watched network among all of basic cable.

ESPN averaged 1.45 million viewers to finish second in a sports-heavy month, with Nickelodeon, HGTV and Adult Swim rounding out the top five. Among cable news networks, CNN averaged 791,000 viewers to finished eighth and MSNBC averaged 645,000 viewers to finished No. 13. . . .

Fox News Tops Cable News Ratings for 15 Straight Years With January Win

In prime time, Fox News is also right up there at the top beating all its cable news competition combined. So if Fox News is biased, it is working for them. However, I rather think their success is they are the only mainstream media source that provides all the news without bias, something none of the free networks or other cable news channels do.

I was interested to see how Tucker Carlson would do in Megyn Kelly's old slot and his ratings are significantly higher than hers. And Martha McCallum doing "The First 100 Days" in Greta Van Sustern's old slot is also enjoying better ratings than Greta did.

I still miss Greta--I honestly have not missed Megyn--and she enjoyed significantly better ratings at Fox than she has been able to pull at MSNBC.

But what do you think? Fox News stays on top by being biased and partisan? Or does it stay on top by being objective and honest? Or something else?

FOX news is very clearly biased, they have even been sued over it. It stays on top because it is a conservative biased news station and conservatives tend to be older people, people who still watch TV whereas Liberals who tend to be younger get their news through other mediums because the internet is superior in every way to cable television. Most millennials I know do not have cable, including myself. In summary it stays on top by being biased and partisan.

The internet is the home of fake news.

But it is also home to the best news, it is a two-way street. How exactly is the fake news on the internet such an issue when FOX is also guilty?

Watching CNN is in most cases like watching second stringers compared to Fox. With a few exceptions, it's flat out boring. I don't think CNN aims at the politically serious audience, whereas Fox does.

What Fox does and CNN doesn't is do a good job of is the "fair paring" of guests. For example a conservative third stringer up against a democrat first stringer. Fox does a pretty good job of paring guests with close to equal gravitas.

CNN's better niche is world wide news, where as Fox is weak there.

MSNBC is just a bunch of people sharing the same bubble.

I heard the Gong Show had pretty good ratings too.

Fox doesn't do fake news. Nor does any other cable news channel.

Lol...yeah, it is doing something right.

It has learned how to appeal to old, 'white' people.

Yeah, that's an advertiser's dream demographic....NOT.

Almost nobody gives a **** about old, 'white' people except old 'white' people and drug companies (and I say that despite the fact that most of my friends are old and 'white' at this point in time - even though I am not...yet).

Someone posted a link last night here from Fox saying the Quebec Mosque shooting was Muslim on Muslim violence and the shooter was Moroccan. Once the true story broke that link suddenly disappeared.

Anyway I find it weird that the same people who complain that all MSM is bias, and Fox is definitely MSM, then brag that Fox has the most viewers. Isn't that the same as saying that Fox has to most gullible suckers? If someone KNOWS a source is bias, and they still watch it? What does that say about the people watching it?

And since their viewers are mostly Conservatives, well then??????

I have to say I find these numbers remarkable and question their accuracy. Only 1.8 million viewers watch the most watch TV News program in the United States, a country of 330 million people? Here in Canada, CTV News, the most watched English TV news program in the country, averaged 1.3 million viewers, the last ratings information I could locate, and Canada is a tenth the size of America.

Rather than being a point of pride for FOX News, I'd say it's a damning indictment of all American Television News sources if less than 1% of your country's population is watching at any given time.

Cable news. This does not include the major broadcast networks.

I see Jack Hays already noted this, but I thought I'd go a little more in-depth.

Well, first of all, it's never an exact amount. Nielsen ratings are always based on sampling (like any poll, for example). But 1.8 million viewers is a pretty good number for a cable news program.

Only 1.8 million viewers watch the most watch TV News program in the United States, a country of 330 million people?
No, 1.8 million watch the biggest CABLE news station. Compare that to the average viewership last week of the evening news for NBC, ABC and CBS, which are the broadcast networks and traditionally the largest TV stations.

NBC: 9.36 million
ABC: 9.05 million
CBS: 7.86 million

It's not quite like that, as cable and broadcast viewership are much difference in eyeballs. But cable viewership can be affected by a large number of factors, including big sporting events, market penetration, key demographics, DVR and Internet streaming, etc.

What are the popular Liberal internet programs? For instance, if Liberals aren't listening to the radio or watching TV, there must be some really huge Liberal programs on the internet, what's the Liberal internet version of Rush Limbaugh or Fox News?

FOXNews has the monopoly on whacktard TV. They have no real competition from any other network that appeals to that element in our society. They have it all to themselves.

The other networks have to share.

I know that case. Fox was a victim of his fraud, as was the US Government.

Fox News is fake news....

The really aren't any, it is a different medium, we use websites like how newspapers used to be along with social media and sites like Reddit. However you can find streams of major media organizations but also smaller or international ones like BBC of AJE.

You'll never get back the time you wasted on that search. Every network has flubs.

I'm very well CJ, and I trust you're the same. Planning to retire for the second and final time in three months.

I retired over 6 years ago and never had second thoughts - you deserve the time to yourself and your family, nothing more - enjoy!!
