Re: Who Owns The Media? The 6 Monolithic Corporations That Control Almost Everything

Mostly I agree, but I think you're being very damn naïve to think we don't have to worry about media monopolies. As the OP has already mentioned, when it gets to the point (and it's probably already there) that CEO from corporation X can summon the editor of mainstream media outlet and tell him what agenda shall be advanced, or what agenda shall be suppressed, we have something to worry about.

And this is especially worrisome now since there seems to be a blind media jihad against Trump, when in reality it is a war against the presidency itself. And if the media is the opposition party, who are the democrats?

I doubt that ever happens. You can't suppress information like that. Even if it did happen, the largest of media companies doesn't have the kind of pull they used to.

In an ideal world, the media is neutral and non-partisan. It is on the side of We The People, NOT on the side of misguided and illegal government policies. For years, most of the media are mere sycophants and bootlickers.

Walter Cronkite and the others are long gone. Yes, there are principled journalists like Greenwald and many others, but they are swimming against the tide. The mainstream media is corporate owned and advances the agenda of the owners and other special interests.

You doubt that corporations and their agenda control the news? If that's what you mean, you are with all due respect very naïve.

Read Sharyl Attkisson's stories about how the corporate agenda is advanced at CBS. That is but one book out of very many that reveal the nuts and bolts of corporate control of media, and therefore the public perception.

I'm sure it happens around the edges. I'm just saying they can't have as large an effect as some people are suggesting. There's too many other outlets.

While I answered "No" to the poll question I do understand the concern of the growth of monopolies in the US. I don't know that the number of media companies counts as a monopoly yet, though it does increase the likelihood of collusion and price fixing.

As a conservative I oppose all power monopolies both private and public.

The name of her book, which I forgot to mention this morning, is STONEWALLED. Like it or not, believe it or not, the media works hand-in-glove with behind the scene government handlers.

Uh-huh. That's why the washington post never broke the story about Hillary using a private email and server while SOS? Oh... wait... the information still got out.

Republican/conservatives don't like the media cause they don't like being called on their crap. They can't handle it. Like a bunch of mini trumps.

What controls whether any person or group "likes" or "dislikes" the media is just whose ox it is that is being gored by what the media has to say. Playing the media for effect, or criticizing it on the rare occasions it prints the truth, is a bipartisan practice.

The person or party whose boots the media is licking at the moment always likes the media.
