The best jab at CTs in totality that I've seen in a long time:

FakeNews® is very upset about Fake News.

I think he used to be fake news, when he played a conservative pundit. He does not consider himself to be news now. Even though, a lot of people list him as their main source of news. He's telling them not to.

Eh. The "Oh I'm Just A Comedian" schtick was always a cop out, for Colbert and Jon Stewart. Colbert came close to almost realizing this with the "maybe we drank too much of the poison" bit after the election was called.

But, of course, it's not just him

It takes a special lack of self-awareness to repeat a baseless charge against a public figure, while also warning that fake news can have dangerous and potentially deadly consequences. But that's exactly what Washington Post columnist Petula Dvorak did this week when she dredged up the false charge that former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin inspired a mass shooting in 2011 in Tucson, Ariz. Dvorak's recitation of the unfounded claim came in an article titled "At a D.C. pizzeria, the dangers of fake news just got all too real."...

Whether it's drek about Sessions secretly being a racist, George W deserting his unit, deliberately misquoting Paul Ryan, or trying to throw a Presidential debate with misinformation FakeNews® has been part of the media business for a long time. Now it's facing competition from Fake News, and it's very upset about that.

I haven't watched the video yet, and I'm sure when I do Colbert will crack it apart in a succinct and humorous way. However, I can't help but feel a certain existential crisis in the knowledge that the architects of Pizzagate forgot about it a week ago and have already churned out the next fifteen fake news stories shortly to dominate the national zeitgeist.

"What should we do today? Hillary actually born in Algeria?"

"I dunno, man. I'm kinda out of ideas."

"Maybe we should try picking an altercation between two individuals of a different race, and then attempt to paint a distorted picture of the particulars in order to try to gin up clicks by appealing to racial animus, regardless of the consequences?"

"Nah, already been done, like, a million times."

IDK, people are still going at it. Claiming that this shooting event was a false flag propped up by the government as a last ditch effort to protect Hillary and her goons!
Plus, the shooting happened over the weekend. So it wasn't too long ago.

They are making a big mistake, or a devicive action..

Colbert like this is not doing the establishment a darn bit of good disproving or diminishing the popular effect of pizzagate...

Talk about exposure, lol.. EVERYONE will be looking into pizzagate..
No one believes a word colbert says anyway..

He tries to lump wikileaks in as fake news, lol..

None of which has anything to do with Colbert or this video, as far as I can see.

What a quaintl;y delusional assertion.

The only people who are going to 'look into' pizzagate after seeing this are the people who will want to see how right he is.

Those who give it creedence don't watch Colbert. He uses words that are too big for them.

And by your own assertion, 'no one believes a word he says' in any case, so why would they believe him enough to inquire further?

Your contradictions are delicious.

This is as crazy as CNN and the DNC rigging the nomination for Hillary and feeding her the debate questions against Trump

So it is ok because a bunch of people do it? What about those of us who actually do like true facts(as opposed to your preferred type of facts)? Should we just shrug because, hey, everyone is doing it?

No. It's wrong. It's lying. It's also not new, nor is it limited to internet blogs. If MSM wants to get upset about fake news, well, I will take their complaints seriously when they start cleaning their own house.

I think you confuse fake news with what you don't want to hear sometimes.

Sensible people try to independently verify information..

:pinches bridge of nose:

No. I get lots of news I don't want to hear, lots of the time. Dealing with news that no one wants to hear is my job.

I am conflating people who either say things that are not true, or say things that are true in deliberately misleading ways with people who either say things that are not true, or say things that are technically true in deliberately misleading ways. I gave a couple of links above to notable examples, though there are plenty of others.

News you dislike isn't fake. if you believe the MSM fakes news on a daily basis, then the fake newsters have got to you.

News you dislike isn't fake.

No."News" claims that are false or deliberately deceptive are "fake", regardless of whether or not you or I happen to "like" it.

What are they other than well paid comedians who double as political commentators for a third of their programing between skits on puppets and sing alongs?

Who are the fake news sites everyone is suddenly concerned with other than semi paid bloggers who double as political hacks?

Both exist for the same reason - people want their biases confirmed, and they want to look down on people who disagree with them.

But hey, if they're just entertainment, then we can stop worrying. Crises Averted! :)

Didn't they also create a fake "hands up" news story in Ferguson that led to dead cops all over America?
Surely they wouldn't be that irresponsible, just to sell clicks, views... why, not even if it seemed to jive with their political inclinations would they do such a thing....

Besides, I heard he was a "white Hispanic".

On the upside, we only have one more month before the media "discover" that many of the jobs created since the "recovery" are low paid, part time positions, and that this is a problem that POTUS is totes responsible for fixing
