Sykes was an early nevertrumper and he says that the election did not affect his decision to stop his radio show. He decided personally before the election and probably why he was able to come out as Nevertrump. It sounds more likely that since he is almost the same age as he was when his father died, it weighed heavily on him and now wants to do something else. He has mentioned that he is not running for office, when asked about those exciting new opportunities.
