The American Press of today functions in a variety of ways: entertainment for the masses; propaganda arm of U.S. government; propaganda branch of big business; and perpetuator of its own self interests.

The Press played a major role in making Donald Trump the GOP candidate just as the Press along with the DNC played a prominent role in marginalizing Bernie Sanders. Of course it continues today as the "Fourth Estate" manipulates information on behalf of Hillary Clinton.

Joseph Goebbels would be proud.

To use the example of Nazi Germany; Goebbels' propaganda was so effective, at the start of the war anyway, because large parts of the German people agreed already with the idea that somebody had stabbed Germany in the back. If somebody was to say that today, even if it was present on TV all the time, large groups of people who disagreed with the premise would reject the propaganda.

I understand your argument, however I disagree. I disagree with your premise. At the same time I would submit to you that large groups of people are perhaps the easiest to manipulate. Effective propaganda often presents itself in agreeable terms.

The large corporations that have taken over the media, the news media particularly, aren't doing our Democracy / Republic any favors, by placing money and control over the far more vital fourth estate obligations to society, as this puts our Democracy / Republic at risk.
 
The DNC would say, "Uh yeah. We're sorry. Hey, ah, Debbie - I know you're just here as an advisor now, but could you take a look at this article Ezra Klein sent in for review? Anything that needs to be changed before it hits the street?"

That's an indictment of a huge population of people. And I think a lot of people would agree with you. But sadly, those who are guilty of having the inability to distinguish fact from fiction - won't know that they are guilty.
