Chris Matthews caught on camera commenting on Melania Trump's 'runway walk'

Well, you can count me as a Chris Mathews fan - I do like the guy; I DVR his weekday 'Hardball' show, and watch it most nights.

I drifted away from MSNBC the last few years as they just went down the tubes with more & more partisan commentary from hosts I cannot relate to or respect, as the drifted away from hard & serious political news (Al Sharpton??? Melissa Harris??? Really???). But now, I'm happy to say their recent shake-up & make-over has been positive, and their live primary day coverage has been pretty darn good. I'm hoping they'll continue to improve their daytime & evening coverage to the level of 'Morning Joe', which I think is one of the best things on (political) television.

So what's with the amateur idiotic move here, by Mathews? Anytime anyone's on a set they've go to assume all mics are live, in terms of private or personal discussion; he knows this!

Oh well, I think he's an excellent interviewer, great for putting B.S. artists on the spot, and he can go toe-to-toe with anyone (N.B. Trumps abortion comment with him just prior to WI). So, I'll take the good with the bad. But locker-room talk should be kept in the locker-room - if at all!

The thing is if Bill O'Reilly made a similar comment, the left-wing internet trolls would be blowing up about it. Yet Matthews gets met with near silence on this...

Is there something strange about a former model having a "runway walk?" Why is this news?

The way Matthews slobbered all over himself....it kind of is.

Somehow, I suspect that the conservatives expressing their blatantly faux outrage at Matthews didn't bat an eyelash at comments from "the right" that are ten times worse....

You're probably correct, but your observation is flawed.

Conservatives aren't complaining about what he said, they're complaining that he wasn't called out on it by the same people who have called out conservatives in the past.

ETA: Most conservatives. There's always a handful of twits in any group.

Well, how are they going to complain about that (bolded)?

Do they troll through the posting history of everyone not identified as conservative on DP, read all their posts, and note all the things they complained about. Then, when something like this happens, they go to their database and see who failed to complain, then call them out? Etc?

See I don't think they genuinely are "complaining that he wasn't called out on it by the same people who have called out conservatives in the past."
They aren't pulling out a database and saying, "hmmm....I see that Mr Person called Rush Limbaugh a scum bag for telling women to just hold aspirin between their knees. But I don't see anywhere in his 3,322 posts where he calls at Matthews for complimenting an attractive woman. Ok, gotta make sure to call him out." ETc.

Instead, they're playing the game where they treat everyone on their "side" as an individual thinker, and everyone on the other side as fungible, as if "liberals" are actually one gestalt entity, each answerable for the other.

So if they can remember one liberal who somewhere said something negative of a conservative for doing something vaguely similar to this.... they just start a thread saying "oh, liberals, you're all hypocrites because you didn't call out Matthews."

And, of course, they are usually equally guilty of whatever they allege against the "other side" collectively. Hence my remark.

(And I'd also note: usually the analogies used to play this Hypocrite Game are laughably bad, drummed up solely for purposes of the Game)
