Rush demands Rush Limbaugh stop using their music on his show

[h=5]Rush demands Rush Limbaugh stop using their music on his show[/h]

I'm a huge fan of the rock group RUSH. Like most RUSH fans, I consider their music the soundtrack to my life.

Go ahead, get it over with... I've been taking crap for liking RUSH since I was 13, so yeah, yeah... Geddy sings like a... blah, blah, blah...

Anyway, I had no idea this was going on, Limbaugh using their music for show bumpers, but I'm glad their lawyers put a stop to it.

I know some conservative RUSH fans believe RUSHs music and Ayn Rand themes in 2112 and Anthem speak to them. Cool. It's all good when we're talking about Dirk, Lerxst, and Pratt. They are proud Canadians and very generous philanthropers. (although Peart lives in L.A. now).

The Spirit of Radio is about the uplifting and transformative effect of music, as heard through FM radio. Totally inappropriate for and unrelated to AM talk radio. It was a huge breakthrough song, and while it was the first RUSH tune to get major air play all over the U.S., it actually condemns the commercialization of FM music programming, "glittering prizes and endless compromises, shatter the illusion of integrity..."

Re: Bravado, I imagine Limbaugh never listened to the lyrics. He just like the title.

I cannot give you crap about Rush because I too have a double CD with Rush songs. I used to be a big hard-rock/metal fan and because of that I also got introduced to Rush songs. My favorite songs are Fly by night, closer to the heart but I like "the trees" the best.

And I can understand why they would not want to be associated with the likes of Rush Limbaugh.

I wonder how many liberals have ever said the word "slut" in their life, and now troll debatepolitics with how offended they are that some guy said "slut" on a radio channel that they don't even listen to.

I mean really, slutgate? REALLY? made me chuckle. Forget about birth control, Sandra Fluke is a slut simply because she's a lawyer. This is on par with Obama bowing to the saudis, really. it's stupid to even talk about this.

You've been hanging out with the East Texas Rednecks way too long...

I am so telling TurtleDude about this.

Re: Bravado, I imagine Limbaugh never listened to the lyrics. He just like the title.

"Spirit of Radio" was about CFNY in Toronto. That was CFNY's motto before they sold out in the '90s.

If you want to understand Rush, just sit in Lakeside Park listening to CFNY around 1983.

A bit esoteric but I'd agree in general. I can definitely see him using it regarding anything about real estate or imminent domain too. Not so sure with regard to the rock band RUSH though. Seriously, too bad MyCroft pulled down his initial post. It had some seriously good points in it, as regards RUSH (the band lyrics) which of course mean Peart lyrics.

Somehow I doubt it had to do with Limbaugh's appreciation for their lyrics. Maybe more to do with their similar names...

Really, same old story. Politics and music....personally I'm waiting for a Liberal to use a Hank Williams song so we can watch Junior get his Depends in a bunch over it.

How in Gods name can anyone like the noise that band creates?

I say the same thing about Lynryd Skynryd. :2razz:

You'll always find someone who likes something. I had a friend who was SOOO into van Halen that I used to joke with him that Eddie could put out a record of fart noises, and he'd think it was their best album.

My "never mind" is not in reference to the topic.

I had posted a question to hazlnut about the article...and then realized he had answered it in his post. So I edited my post into...never mind...and left it at that.

Truth be told...I don't know much...or care much...about Rush (the band) or Rush (the talker).

You dont' care about Rush, the BAND????

Are you the antichrist? LOL.

The funny thing is the song is more associated with Rush Limbaugh then it is with the band. The song itself was a great choice not because of the band name, but because their liberals.

Anyway, thanks for this thread, now even MORE people will be tuning in to hear what happens with Limbaugh's music selection.

There's also line that references Simon and Garfunkel, Sound of Silence.

Although the slogan inspired the title, I think the song is bigger than any one single station. It speaks to a universal experience of all FM radio fans--a positive, uplifting experience. Totally inappropriate for AM fear-radio.

Perhaps Limbaugh fans should listen to Witch Hunt...

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill

They say there are strangers who threaten us
In our immigrants and infidels
They say there is strangeness too dangerous
In our theaters and bookstore shelves
That those who know what's best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves

Quick to judge
Quick to anger
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand...

Like the song says, Madmen fed on fear and lies...

LOL Rush is such a douche and a great representation of the party at this time. DOH!

Are you the antichrist? LOL.

Nah...not the antichrist or anything. Just someone who prefers "good" music...like ELP.

I just checked Beemp3.com and a lot of their music is available for free download.

OK time to see what music Rush opens his show with today.....

Edit:
...and his theme song remains unchanged

What's his theme song?

Keep in mind, RUSH (the band) have survived being snubbed and criticized for almost 4 decades--and they stand stronger than ever as one of the only hard rock acts from 70s/80s era still making great music and selling out shows at amphitheaters and arenas.

If he keeps playing their music against their wishes, Limbaugh is just an ant in the afterbirth of scumbag institutions that have wronged RUSH.

Hopefully good will prevail over evil.

While Bill Maher called Sarah Palin a word which I find so vile I won't even type it. There was no, umm, something that rhymes with "huntgate" at the time.

I hear you on that. The only reason I can see why that would be true is because Sarah Palin is a politician and that's what politics has come to in this country. However, this lady that Rush called a slut is just some random law student who was trying to make a difference. I would liken it to the nappy-headed ho comment.

If Imus had called Condaleeza a nappy-headed ho, he'd still have his job.

Well, I'd say there's no excuse, period.

Well, I'd say there's no excuse, period.

Well that's an issue, because pundits (and talking heads in general) say crazy **** all the time. I think the major thing they need to keep in mind is to say it about someone who is fair game. The volleyball team Imus was referring to - not fair game apparently. And this law student, apparently was not fair game as well.

Personally, I agree with you. But news is more about entertainment than news, so there is no moral or ethical guidelines they need to follow. You want to say the president is "terrorist fist bumping", go right ahead. There is no accountability. Just don't call sluts or nappy-headed hoes. Bad **** goes down when you do that.

Sandra Fluke is not lawyer. At least not yet. She graduated from Cornell. She's a college student attending law school Georgetown University.

As to the rest of your comments, they don't deserve a response.

How in Gods name can anyone like the noise that band creates?
Easy now...

I was at the hospital the other day and my phone rang...ring tone is the opening licks to Sweet Home Alabama...the patient I was with asked what it was and said she had never heard of it...or Skynyrd...and...I wept inside. Kansas...the Who...Floyd...man...I feel genuine sorrow for people that grow up thinking Brittney Spears and the Backstreet Boys are 'classic rock'...
