If you have one overriding goal for yourself, there will be no need for the others. That goal: to reach the Kingdom of Heaven.

For years I was making resolutions, writing down goals, doing all the stuff the self-help gurus say to do to change behavior. Inevitably, I would forget about the goals and fall back. The goals were often related to personal income or weight loss or behavioral goals. But those faded because they were earthly goals. When I started thinking about the real purpose of life, and what the ultimate goal should be, to reach Heaven, then I made that my only goal, and a surprising thing happened. I found myself working on the other goals in the process to make myself the best person I could be. I started being diligent and disciplined with my exercise, my diet, my schedule, all without even trying, planning, or writing those goals down. It all became about one goal and one goal only: Heaven.

"Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be given you besides." - Matthew 6:33. There is so much truth to that.

Now as a Catholic, I have a lot of tools at my disposal to stay focused on the goal. Daily Mass, daily Holy Communion, the Rosary, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are tremendous assets and weapons. They help you keep your eye on the prize. But the added benefit is they make your earthly life go smoother and better.

I say these things not to preach how great I am, but to try to help those who struggle with resolutions as I have. Another reason I posted is to hold myself accountable. I can read this and see how I'm still staying with it. I've stuck to this for a month now. So far, so good.

If that's what works for you, more power to you--as long as you don't force your beliefs on others.

The kingdom of God will also rule the earth...in case you don't know it, that is what you pray for when you pray the Lord's prayer...

"Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth." Matthew 6:10

Christianity, by its nature is voluntary. I don't see how I could force it on others if I wanted to. Suggest? Yes.

Perhaps you don't, and if so, good for you. Way too many Christians do.

You're not a Roman Catholic.

Meaningless statement. DEFINE seeking the kingdom of God. Jesus explained it as loving thy neighbor, and doing unto the least of these. You explain it as watching your personal ps and qs. Always focussing on yourself. That is ego boosting. You are even here, boosting your ego.

No, I am well aware it's about doing for others, but i do understand your point. Minding your p's and q's as well as serving your fellow man, which in the end turn out to be the same thing, as prayer and self-tending is the engine that drives service to others.

But I assure you this post was not intended to be an ego boost, for I say how I have fallen short over the years. I included my own experience only to personalize it for people. Otherwise it's just preaching.

One of the goals should be to expose Catholic pedo priests.

Indeed.

Get your heart right.
That'll help you get your behavior right.

Sell all of your belongings.
Give the proceeds to the poor.

Live your life w/ love in anticipation of your heavenly reward

...since we need no other goal

Humanism has the answers. No “life after death” so you need to try to enjoy this life on this planet ad much as you can.

First you have to believe it exist, which is a tall order give the total lack of evidence for it.

Daily Mass, daily Holy Communion, the Rosary, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are tremendous assets and weapons.

Sounds more like a colossal waste of time.

The earthly goals by themselves have never worked for me. But a higher purpose seems to pull it all together, including the worthwhile earthly goals.

I frankly see plenty of circumstantial evidence of the afterlife, whereas I see no evidence for the empty alternative.

Outside of God's grace/love, there most certainly is the empty alternative...

I meant I've never seen evidence that an empty alternative is the only possibility

if your god existed why would it send you instead of talking to people itself?

Heaven only exists ion your mythology. You can no more get to heaven than you can travel to Galt's gulch or Narnia. Embrace facts for once in your life.

I am the king of China.

I am the queen of Siam, Hera and Guinevere.
