Forget all those Goals and Resolutions: You Only need one.

It's ok. They can do these awful things and then slip into sainthood at the end

There is a debt to paid in accordance to your level of depravity. If you have led a bad life but repent at the end, you will reach heaven, but you will have to suffer for your sins in Purgatory. Truly I tell you, you will not get out until you have paid the last penny. Matthew 5:12.. If you repent sooner, you can ameliorate the Purgatorial punishment with acts of good as well acts of penance while on earth. That's why the very best goal is to go straight to Heaven.

Start now. Make that your goal today.

A lot of children abused by pedo priests did not spot him coming.

2 Timothy 3:4-5
4traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, 5having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!

The context was meant for those who would appear in godliness so as to deceive woman, not boys. Oh well, shoulda covered that one more broadly. But I guess they didn't have pederast back then.

Back then they separated the men from the boys. With crowbars.

If you have one overriding goal for yourself, there will be no need for the others. That goal: to reach the Kingdom of Heaven.

For years I was making resolutions, writing down goals, doing all the stuff the self-help gurus say to do to change behavior. Inevitably, I would forget about the goals and fall back. The goals were often related to personal income or weight loss or behavioral goals. But those faded because they were earthly goals. When I started thinking about the real purpose of life, and what the ultimate goal should be, to reach Heaven, then I made that my only goal, and a surprising thing happened. I found myself working on the other goals in the process to make myself the best person I could be. I started being diligent and disciplined with my exercise, my diet, my schedule, all without even trying, planning, or writing those goals down. It all became about one goal and one goal only: Heaven.

"Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be given you besides." - Matthew 6:33. There is so much truth to that.

Now as a Catholic, I have a lot of tools at my disposal to stay focused on the goal. Daily Mass, daily Holy Communion, the Rosary, and the Sacrament of Reconciliation are tremendous assets and weapons. They help you keep your eye on the prize. But the added benefit is they make your earthly life go smoother and better.

I say these things not to preach how great I am, but to try to help those who struggle with resolutions as I have. Another reason I posted is to hold myself accountable. I can read this and see how I'm still staying with it. I've stuck to this for a month now. So far, so good.

I am not Catholic but I feel the same way. Whatever the afterlife is, that is our ultimate goal. And this does NOT mean waiting to die and hating life! Just the opposite. Our life is so much more joyful when we are trying to live the way our God wants us to.

I have never even had a parking fine, always been a good guy so I'm ok.

Pitiful if you think that's all being good means...

Mash is so faux. Spouting RC while exhibiting Himself otherwise. Unless, of course, somebody is who they say they are. And you buy it.

But, I can't tell what makes you say he is "faux" RC (Roman Catholic). I'm confused.
What is it about his post?

I always look at the great lives of the canonized saints who were universally recognized as great people and were the most devout believers of God. That's probably the most tangible evidence there is.

So....you're talking about role models?

There are millions of role models - tangible evidence for God - and they are not necessarily Catholics or "canonized."

I'm referring to former atheists who had set out to debunk God or the Bible, and ended up being converted by what
they'd found out or personally experienced - not only did they convert to Christianity, but they've also become active apologists for Christianity.
A couple high profile I can mention would be Lee Strobel, Simon Greenleaf, J. Warner Wallace.

William Lane Craig and Francis Collins are also former atheists.

So many Christians (not necessarily popular) - former atheists, have had their own personal experience with God.
Two pastors that I know of were former atheists - Charles Price (now retired, who was instrumental to my rediscovery of Christ), and his successor Brett McBride - had given their own testimonies. McBride had started a ministry in inner cities after his conversion.
Some are former Muslims/jihadists and gangsters etc., who had been converted by their own personal encounter with God.
Countless people have been TRANSFORMED!

They all give their own personal testimonies - which make them evidences for God!

Some of the atheists we encounter in this forum - they might eventually be among those who'll end up like the former atheists
mentioned above. Some could be future brothers in Christ waiting to happen.

If we are all god's children then what so special about Jesus?

Really? Is that what the Bible teaches? no, there are children of the Devil and there are children of God...it all depends on who you choose to follow...

"You are from your father the Devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father..." John 8:44

"We know that we originate with God, but the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one." 1 John 5:19

You folks want to cite reason?

Dr Craig is a religious BS artist,
William Lane Craig (born August 23, 1949) is an American analytic philosopher[5] and Christian theologian, apologist, and author.[6] He is Professor of Philosophy at Houston Baptist University and Research Professor of Philosophy at Talbot School of Theology (Biola University)[7]. Craig has updated and defended the Kalam cosmological argument for the existence of God.[8][9][10][11][12] He has also published work where he argues in favor of the historical plausibility of the resurrection of Jesus.[13] His study of divine aseity and Platonism culminated with his book God Over All.[14][15] Craig has formally debated the existence of God (and related topics such as the historicity of the resurrection of Jesus) with many prominent figures, including: Sam Harris, Christopher Hitchens, Lawrence M. Krauss,[8] Lewis Wolpert, Antony Flew, Sean Carroll, Sir Roger Penrose, Peter Atkins, Bart Ehrman, Walter Sinnott-Armstrong, Paul Draper, Gerd Lüdemann and A. C. Grayling.[16] William Lane Craig established and runs the online apologetics ministry ReasonableFaith.org.[7]

The bible teaches nothing. People teach other people what to think the bible is teaching them. The bible is not a lesson book.

Yes, you are correct...for some people, the Bible teaches them nothing...;)

I'd never heard of him, but I am very curious about why you have dismissed this scholar as a "religious BS artist." I looked first at your Wiki link, and I wondered which of the books of his listed you've read. What about his other publications? Google Scholar

And then I wondered whether you weren't impressed by his degrees, so I looked up his CV: https://assets.biola.edu/8259425444...9.2102399710.1596599933-1916170872.1596599933

So is Birmingham a shabby university? Why, no; it's ranked 112th out of 1397 universities: World University Rankings 2020 | Times Higher Education (THE)

And it can't be Trinity Evangelical either: "Trinity Evangelical Divinity School (TEDS) is an academic divinity school founded in 1897 and located north of Chicago, Illinois. TEDS is one of the largest seminaries in the world, enrolling more than 1,200 graduate students in professional and academic programs, including more than 150 in its PhD programs. The most popular degree at the school, the Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree, prepares pastors, educators, and missionaries for many kinds of service. The school also offers a range of more focused Master of Arts programs in counseling ministries, Christian thought, New Testament, Old Testament, and other disciplines." Top 10 Evangelical Seminaries in the U.S.

So why do you dismiss Dr. Craig as a "religious BS artist"? Have you met him and found him unlikeable or shady? Or what?

A Master of Divinty, lol. That's like being a master of the Lord Of The Rings and Harry Potter.

I take it you don't agree with him......but, can't rationally explain why?

You agree with that peddler of pseudo-science....the epic-fail "philosopher" wanna-be, Richard Dawkins?

Former atheist William Lane Craig wanted to debate Dawkins on his book The God Delusion.
You do know that Dawkins chickened out and tried to hide from WLCraig?
Dawkins can't even defend his own book, and left it to be shredded by Craig.................. page by page.

Anyway, Dawkins must've got what he wanted: atheists had already bought his book! That was what all his bs anti-God book-writing was
all about: the kaching-kaching and bling-bling from his target audience - the angry, bitter atheists!

Either Dawkins is a fool himself, or he got a lot of new atheists fooled! I think, it's both.
