The US Catholic Church Spent $281,611,817 on child sex abuse cases in 2019

According to a yearly audit of the Catholic Church by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, released on Thursday, the number of allegations of child sexual abuse by clergy members skyrocketed to 4,434 between July of 2018 and June of 2019.

One other interesting tidbit: In 2019, the Church says it spent more than $280 million on child abuse settlements, other payments to victims, “support for offenders,” attorneys’ fees, and other miscellaneous costs related to those lawsuits. That’s a steep rise from even 2014, when they had to spend $106 million.

Sickos prey on the weaker and more vulnerable like women and children. I did 8 years in a catholic school, was in church for some reason or another pretty much 7 days a week. As soon as I got to public high school, I left that religion in my past and am no longer associated with any organized religion. Glad my parents weren't religious nuts, so the nonsense stopped when I got home. Thankfully neither I or anyone I knew was raped by a horny priest.

Plus they take advantage of the trusting adults who think they are trustworthy...thankfully, I've never dealt with it firsthand, either, but I am aware that many have...

Fact RARELY mentioned by msm or anyone else

In protestant churches (but there's only one Church) the rate of child molestation is at least twice as high as in the Catholic Church

But msm is not threatened by protestant churches bc most of them have caved to the PC culture

I'd like to see some actual data to back up the claim, but I do agree the problem is endemic throughout all faiths. When a faith takes it upon itself to educate/indoctrinate children, the institution will become a magnet for perverts, as we saw here in Australia in high profile cases within the Catholic, Anglican, and Uniting churches. It also occurs in more secular institutions that seek to teach children, such as the Boy Scouts etc.

The problem is not with religion itself, but sadly, with gatherings of children attracting such a perverse element.

Really? I just posted why. Any institution that instructs or oversees groups of children will attract such an element.

Yes and most child molesters are MARRIED

I heard that stat about twice as many in protestant churches fro several different newspapers long time ago...say 10 years ago

And most child molester's victims are related to their molester.

As I see it, part of the problem is that parents give religious leaders authority that is not warranted. "You must obey Father Blahblah because he speaks for GOD!"

My child had a religious upbringing, but I never indicated that religious leaders of any stripe had any "authority." Further, I always kept a close eye on who my kid was interacting with and under what circumstances. Whenever possible I or my wife were directly involved in any extracurriculars, such as scouting, etc. And, at a very early age, we educated our child on the potential for grownups to want to hurt them and what to do if they tried. It was a reassuring conversation, not a scary one.

What a sad commentary on the world today. When I was growing up, my parents told me not to take candy from strangers, so I vaguely understood "stranger danger." I had to explain so much to my own kids that I never even knew to think about, much less worry about. Kids do need to know, but it breaks my heart that they do.
