I have lived a fairly long time..infant-baptized Catholic..been to different non Catholic churches...seen and experienced many things...things others probably can't even imagine..

I've studied religion but mostly Catholicism.

I will always tell people that the Catholic Church is the church. Christ founded bc that is true.have studied history..

But. I am SO disappointed and even angry about how the bishops in some blue states are wimping out on us by cowaring before these governors and continuing to comply w lockdowns of the Church that are un-Constitutional...

He's whatever denomination you want him to be.

He was Jewish.

The Jews rejected him

(sav those who didn't)

Yeah, James, Jesus' brother was a Jew, and he became one of the first Christians. He was one of the group who had to decide whether or not Christians needed to be circumcised, if they could eat pork, etc.

There was only one denomination at that point.

At one time the C C was the fastest growing one

I doubt that is true today... altho considering the fact that Christianity in all forms is suffering loss of members.. maybe the CC is losing fewer?

I don't know but I can't count the times I have bitterly mumbled

I see why people leave the church

Biggest tragedy in life is to b separated from Christ's church...esp if u stay away even at time of death..

This may sound simplistic or what have u but the actions and inactions of the clergy are literally dragging people into Hell

Those were the good old days (one denomination, so called)

I didn't live in those days, obviously, but I do, however, see the huge difference between pre-Vatican 2 and post Vat 2

Huge..

Sad...and anger-inducing......

Actually, it was only those who controlled the temple who rejected Jesus. Their mandate was to keep the people calm and docile in light of the Roman occupation. Jesus was making that more difficult, as he was drawing crowds in the thousands and teaching contrarian principles that made the people question the temple leaders. Add to that, rumors that this uncontrolled itinerant preacher was performing miracles and getting the people excited. All this made it clear, this Jesus fellow needed to be silenced, lest their Roman masters be angered and start replacing folks charged with keeping the peace.

They thought that once Jesus was done away with, that would be the end of it. Alas it was not to be. At that point, the temple leaders declared it open season on on the followers of Jesus.

Whatever he may be - I only know for sure what he is NOT!

He is NOT one of those evangelical fundamentalists.

They are the Pharisees that he preached against

A good read

And (somewhat eerily..or what have u) reading your post made me think of the current situation in....was going to say The Catholic Church but there are still good Catholic Churches...problem is, they seem to be few and far between that love Jesus (meaning: as God desires us to love him, not the human way).....

What to do... what to do....

LOL

I think he is very much like them, just not in every way....

It was a joke.

I was wondering... With just printed words on a screen, we humans cannot easily ascertain the full meaning of any given comments, something we all need to keep in mind..which reminds me

I've seen a lot of snark on the DB forum.. sad bc some people are very frail and could become self destructive if overly ...snarked

As a little boy, I was taught (threatened) that "You'll go to Hell for lying!" along with other false teachings. I was taught that God was always there, watching and waiting to kick my ass if I screwed up. Kinda tough to establish and nurture a loving relationship with such a being, if you ask me. By the time I reached puberty, I knew I was surely going straight to Hell, no matter what.

It wasn't until much later in my life that I came to realize that rather than lurking, waiting to smite me, God wanted to embrace me, in spite of my sin. God wants an eternal loving relationship with each of us. All we have to do is desire the same thing and believe that it is possible that God loves us, in spite of ourselves.

That doesn't work for those of us who follow Objective not subjective truth....

god is this guy following objective truth when it comes to you or just what he believes?

hello god?

hmm your god wont talk but your story is that people will suffer if they dont join you

thats a real good pitch for a human made religion push the faith and fear

You are making one assumption you can not objectively show to be true. And that is 'the biblical Jesus existed'.

A question in between:

What does the Holy Bible say about Jesus and strawberries?
Did Jesus like strawberries?

Sorry u weren't raised to believe in a loving God. I was never told exactly what to believe...we won't to Mass every Sunday but that was about it...

My problem is I've had so much trauma and ... what's the word? Hate...that I began to, at least on some level, believe that God didn't love me very much.. I was always criticized and rejected by one parent, ignored more or less by the other
I just the other day saw how true that old truism is that we tend to see God as we saw (experienced) our parents...never thought I was doing that but in that moment saw itclearly..

That said, though, God does chastise us so as to purify us...we tend to make light of sin but God knows how harmful it really is...I believe he is always trying to show us how awful and destructive it is...
