Last night, my wife and I rented this blockbuster hit move from 2018 Crazy Rich Asians
A young Chinese-American woman and a young Singapore student fell in love in New York. Unbeknownst to her, her beau was scion of the wealthiest most influential family in Southeast Asia. He invited her to visit his country for a friend's wedding. His mother strongly disapproved of the girl because she was of a single mother who bore her out of wedlock, as the result of an affair.
I have long noted leftwing bias in movies. Some egregious and some very subtle. Crazy Rich Asians was fairly entertaining, but definitely promoted anti-Christian leftwing 'values'. Here are some examples:
1. In an early scene, the scion's mother and her wealthy friends were holding a bible meeting, reading from various scriptural passages. So they were of the 19% Christian minority in Singapore. Never mind Buddhism, Islam, and atheism are all larger forces in that country. The moviemakers were foreshadowing the mother's bigotry and hypocrisy, and Christianity is the only PC scapegoat allowed.
2. The scion's mother believed family came first and women should put family above all career goals. The young girl, an economics professor, was scolded when she said her career was her passion.
3. The scion's mother did not permit two unmarried people to stay in her home. The couple cohabitated. When they went to Singapore, they shared a hotel room. The otherwise perfect son, told his mother he wouldn't abide by those old-fashioned rules.
4. The minor heroes were a gay male relative, and the girl's best college friend of questionable orientation.
5. Women dominated the role. The power structure was two moms and a grandmother. Fathers or grandfathers were non-existent. Both key straight male figures, other than the leading man, were portrayed as worms. One cheated on his wife; the other tried to submarine the couple's relationship.
6. The bachelor party was shown as a hedonistic sex orgy on a huge private barge
7. Everything was over-the-top materialism, excess, and gluttony, yet the family was supposed to be strict Chrisitans. The Christian church where the friends were married was converted into something of a jungle, with a little river running down the main aisle, and an Elvis song being played. It was portrayed as beautiful, but it was a desecration.
To summarize, this movie pushed leftwing memes all the way: Sex outside marriage, trashing of the traditional family structure, bastardization of Christianity, promotion of hedonism and excess, trashing of masculinity. All in one movie. Give me a Hallmark movie any day of the week.
